How could JL believe that in this day and age he wouldn’t get found out eventually?! Like honestly it’s ridiculous to think that he wouldn’t be found out!

LE said the only way he was found was via the spy pen.

I’m so glad I remembered the hearing was today and popped in here. Oof. I’m nearly shaking from the few revelations I’ve seen so far. SM affair?? But not BM?!.. NO blood???... oh man....

I am so frustrated as I don’t want SM being painted as the “bad guy” (gal, I should say) here and now the affair partner conveniently fits in to a SODDI defense. Ahhhh

No one can paint Suzanne as a “bad guy”, unless you believe that having affair in an unhappy marriage makes a person “a bad guy”. This case is about disappearance of SM, her body, and her husband standing accused of being involved. From day 1 I felt it was not about another woman, but simply, money. I personally feel they both had affairs, so what?
No blood just means, he has huge hands.

So maybe JL wasn't in a happy marriage after all if his brother and daughter knew about it.

Is it just me, or does this sounds like a Hitchcock movie? Secret affair, meeting all over the country, Spy Pen that seems to capture the most interesting things. I mean it's in his truck, where it picks up the bike forensic pod cast, and then apparently captures both sides of phone conversations. And then the pen that has done all of this is found in a closet? There must be a whole lot more to come, because I'm shocked the defense hasn't suggested that she's in hiding and framing BM. This all has been so unexpected and bizarre.

Oh man, lifetime is salivating over the idea of making this into a crappy 2 hour movie fit for a Saturday night premiere.

ugh

Talking about spy pen #SuzanneMorphew purchased to see if #BarryMorphew was having an affair. No affair has been proven but FBI agent says they likely never would've found her affair if not for the pen-she accidentally recorded a convo w/ the man she was involved with @CBSDenver

Ok, so she accidentally recorded that phone call apparently. I couldn’t figure out why she would ever do that intentionally.

Unfortunately, I think many of us can read between the lines as to why he may have waited. I think that he probably knew the clock was ticking, though. I suspect that he was in the damage control mode.

Yes, it was wrong anyway that you look at it. It is what it is, though. This affair is a red herring.

JMO.
It's not a red herring if he shows up to testify in the trial. But based on his abandonment of SM by not contacting LE ASAP, he might as well be testifying for the defense. He has already served their cause.

Haha
Yep
Fact truly is stranger than fiction and more bizarre and shocking too in this case!!

I think any blood found would be significant whether luminol was used or not. Apparently no blood was found in the house that we've heard of. I've always thought Barry strangled or drowned Suzanne but I don't know what physical evidence they have that proves she is deceased.

I now think he took her in the truck to somewhere else and did something to her. Maybe they were going on a "hike" but he had that short gun hidden in his jacket.

I'll say one thing about men who prefer guns as killing tools. My dad said there was nothing quicker and that if you knew what you were doing, the animal/person didn't suffer like with other methods. He said he'd like to die in his sleep, but a bullet was his second choice.

I don't think they have any physical evidence that she is deceased - but they have a digital trail showing that she disappeared forever while in the company of her shady-acting husband, who then lies and lies to authorities for more than a year. He doesn't even throw JL under the bus, because he knows JL has messages from Suzanne implicating Barry.

MOO

If BM did know about the affair, it certainly puts his plea video in a new light - "Oh Suzanne" look what you made me do. I think some of you had even suggested when the video first came out that it sounded like he was blaming her; the new affair info could support this. Great work covering this so far, everyone!

We really haven’t covered much today. Set the stage, but that’s it. A couple of friends relating Suzanne’s feelings about the marriage, and when her phone went dark. Wee bit about Barry’s truck doors. A lot of time spent on the other guy.

Makes one wonder if Jeff knew that Suzanne was recording stuff.....I mean...5 hours is no small thing....did that guy know he was being recorded?
Why was she recording her conversation with him? Maybe the pen came on by itself if it was voice activated. I was thinking about this supposed five hour long conversation…that’s longer than I’ve ever talked to someone or would want to be on the phone. They must have been talking about something very important. Barry finding out? Suzanne leaving Barry? Them making a plan to be together? Was the five hour convo on the same day as the last communication from Suzanne? And then he doesn’t call the police when he finds out she is missing? No words…

Oh my gosh! I'm so far behind everyone here. I've got to read fast.

Suzanne having an affair! Could have knocked me over with a feather.

Motive?

Have they said if JL tried to reach her privately to see if she was okay once she was missing? You would think he would do this. If he didn't why not? And if he did and was concerned why not get in touch with the police as he had information. I think he was a coward!

With such a short time on each topic at this prelim, that's a complete tangent and of no consequence whatsoever to who killed Suzanne, which is what the trial is about. It's about a specific man, Barry Morphew, and whether he killed his wife. The rest can't be brought in easily on prelim - not when there's still so much digital and other evidence to come.

@stephaniebutzer
JL's daughter saw his phone and the communications with Suzanne. She told a few of her family members.
