I think we are in the weeds here. We have spent 25% of this preliminary on Suzanne cheating on Barry. Is this normal? I get that we need some background of how we got ere, but a quarter of the time is about cheating?

Only 25% ?? My day is so blurred it feels like this is all that has been talked about. I vaguely remember the mention of no blood and that’s it

Maybe he did, these emotional/erotic interludes may be love or not. (God, I'm hard)
I assume they were equal participants, they shared a fantasy, it may or may not have become a reality had she not been murdered and that , in turn may or may not have worked out. Seems to have been a lotta baggage on both sides. She died believing it was real and maybe she died happier as a result... who is to say?
In my experience, relationships that are mostly "virtual" with a lot of physical distance are what some people prefer. They don't really plan to change their lives, just enjoy the fantasy of it. It's all so easy & fun. JL sounds like someone in a mid-life crisis enjoying the attention with too much to lose (6 kids?) for things to go further. Not even going to start on why SM didn't think about HIS KIDS. She was very needy. Aren't we all, sometimes?

SM needed to find herself before complicating her life with that much baggage in a new partner! I hate Barry for not giving her that chance.

Not really as it just means his phone was there not him!

He was using his phone to send her messages, so goes to reason that he was where is phone was

  • #966
JL was playing house with SM, but it was much more to her. This is all damn sad…. IMO

  • #967
I think they did check him out - thoroughly. And his phone and his own car records will completely exonerate him. He's not in CO on Mother's Day weekend - in fact, I bet he was at home.

MOO.

Probably with his wife, so she probably didn't kill SM either... which I expect is where the defense is going with the comments that nobody involved with JL has been interviewed, so her phone recovered probably never subpoenaed.. so let's throw her on the some other dude did it list. Speculation.

Wow. That’s going to create some tension if the daughter knew and didn’t tell the mom.
We don't even know if he was still married at the time or if they were separated, do we? I might've missed it.

wow, Wow, WOW!
WOW!
I have been stealth lurking all day at work today and I just cannot keep up!
But I will catch up tonight.
Did we get clarification on the 2:47 pm 5/9 or 2:47 am 5/10? I have seen both.

Also, IDK at this point of JL is/was married but regardless, this was Suzanne's life. He did not contact LE??
smh
I think you got it right the first time. Don’t worry though, they’ll get to it in depth. They pretty much just focused on background stuff today, and got some inconvenient shockers out of the way.

Hopefully tomorrow!

I'm glad it's out in the public early on, won't sting as much when the trial starts. The judge is giving the Defense lots of leeway IMO

Court is in recess for the day.

Defense seems to be indicating a “Suzanne took off to Ecuador,” defense.

Ironically, I think that’s where Letecia Stauch’s, “Eguardo” lives.

I hope they don’t bump into each other!
Great minds think alike. Have to laugh to keep from crying.

Indeed. We are probably doing exactly what the defense will want the jury to do: use this affair and JL's behavior to keep the focus off of Barry.

With such a short time on each topic at this prelim, that's a complete tangent and of no consequence whatsoever to who killed Suzanne, which is what the trial is about. It's about a specific man, Barry Morphew, and whether he killed his wife. The rest can't be brought in easily on prelim - not when there's still so much digital and other evidence to come.

Please. Could we keep the focus on who is the real bad guy here: Barry Morphew. Barry Morphew. Barry Morphew.

My apologies. I shouldn’t be driving the conversation a certain way.

But this is just the first of four days of the preliminary hearing. Some questions will be answered during the remaining three days for those who are curious about JL. But not all will be known until the trial, and maybe not even then.

Yes, some of us may have put SUZANNE on a pedestal, but we all know, no one lives on one. No one. It seems to me she was a human being trying her best to live a good life, mistakes and all.

There is much more to go on this…only the first day. So much more to come.

Remember, he is being held without bail and the judge wouldn’t have signed off on all of those search warrants if there wasn’t cause.

So far it sounds like what we have expected. He was terribly controlling, she wanted out, money (her inheritance) was a big issue. The only unexpected was she was having an affair…imo more motive for Barry.

This^^^^.

JL is a bump in the road, and he won’t be the last. The bumps might slow things down for a bit, but we’ll roll on over them and eventually arrive at our destination—a guilty verdict for Barry Morphew. Who murdered SUZANNE.

I worry about a potential juror viewing this as "poor Barry" ... all it takes is one who feels sorry for him. Hoping there are more meaty revelations in the successive days.
But kudos to Barry's attorneys, I feel like they successfully stalled day 1.

I am not worried about potential jurors. Maybe I’m naive, but I think, yes, someone might feel bad for BM in the fleeting moments of news of a JL. But the load of evidence against BM is just beginning to get piled up. We have a long way to go, and while there will be minor setbacks, the end result will be the same: SUZANNE is still dead, and BM made that happen.

BM had no real success in Indiana. <baseball or $$$> He surely wanted to get the heck out of there quickly.
BM pressured Suzanne to move to CO, probably using her daughter going to school there as a tool to force her.
Used Suzanne's money to finance the move and restart his 'business' which I would love to see the financials for btw.
Suzanne's cancer had come back, BM was unsupportive, hell he didn't even go to her treatments. She felt trapped, unloved, worried about her health, etc.

With the girls being gone that weekend and talking a lot to her friend about the upcoming wedding, I think she may have asked BM for a divorce and her money to move back to IN. He murdered her Saturday afternoon, disposed of evidence, and maybe even her body, on his way to 'Broomfield for his job'.

It's all about the money for BM, always.

MOO
And he wasn't taking into consideration that she would do a reversal on Sat for the wedding. That was either interrupt ed or she was a NO show.

I know I'm really behind on the pages...prolly like 30...

I think this answers our questions, unfortunately.

Libler said the affair made him nervous and he didn't want to lose his job or his family. He said he didn't want Suzanne's legacy to be that she had an affair "with that guy."

By that I mean of the 4 days. One whole day of cheating.

Believes BM.

Unfortunately, very typical and expected in these types of cases with siblings/parents. Especially sisters/mothers with a brother/son as a suspect. :(JMO

Thank goodness, I'm mentally drained from it all. Pouring myself a stiff drink.

This guy.... I'm not sure I believe him if he says they fooled around in a hotel, but didn't have sex. IMO
I believe it because of her cancer diagnosis---that treatment takes a lot out of you.
