Although we haven't seen any evidence confirming #BarryMorphew was having an affair, he did search the internet for “searching for a cute girl near Salida”. #SuzanneMorphew also bought a spy pen to secretly record Barry because she thought he was having an affair.


They've now called Former FBI Agent Jonathan Grusing to the stand who specializes in no-body homicide cases. He interviewed #BarryMorphew. He's detailing the day before Suzanne disappeared, saying she had veggie soup with Barry for lunch.

Then, Barry left to run an errand, he came home around 2:44 p.m. While he was gone, Suzanne was sunbathing. She sent photos of herself to the man she was having an affair with around 2:11 p.m.

When he came home, his phone shows that he moved around his house in a pattern. He said he was shooting chipmunks. They found a tranquilizer dart in the dryer trap of the Morphew home. At 2:47 p.m., his phone goes into airplane mode. It doesn't come back online until 10:17 p.m.


Investigators used technology in Barry's truck to find out when the doors opened and closed. At 5:33 p.m. on 5/9/20 (the day before Suzanne's reported missed), his truck shows a message that says, "power removed, system reboot”.

Then, at 9:24, the driver door closes and backs 96 feet out of their driveway. Passenger doors are opening and closing until 9:56 p.m. The next activity is at 3:25 a.m. the next morning -- driver doors opening and closing until 3:52 a.m. at the edge of the driveway.

From there, phone movements show a straight line to where County Road 225 intersects with Highway 50, which close to where Suzanne's bike is recovered. Experts told Grusing they can’t say this is where Barry’s phone is moving. It’s “strafing.”

As a reminder, #BarryMorphew told investigators that he left the house at 5:00 a.m. the day she disappeared. He said she was sound asleep when he left.

#SuzanneMorphew's phone last registered a signal far from the Morphew home at 4:10-4:22 a.m. on the day she was reported missing. It didn't register any other signals after that.

At 8:11 a.m., #BarryMorphew went to a large trash receptacle at a work site to throw things away, he was there for a minute and half. This was his first trash run of the day. He texted Suzanne again at 8:41 a.m. telling her he made it to Broomfield and asked her to call him.

At this point, he enters a hotel room wearing a long sleeve shirt. He comes out of his room an hour later wearing a short sleeve shirt. The prosecution said the fact that he changed in noteworthy. He's also carrying a bag when leaves the room.

Photos show that #BarryMorphew also took bags from his truck and put them by a curb. He leaves them there and then walks back to his truck. Then, he picks up a tree planter/container and a camo jacket and puts them in a dumpster.

At 5:15 p.m., his neighbor, Jeanne Ritter, calls Barry. It appears he was at his hotel at this time, but on 5/13/2020, he told investigators that he was at his work site when she called.

Courtroom testimony makes this timeline a little confusing, but it looks like he made those trash runs before 12:42 p.m. He was then in his hotel room from 12:42 p.m. to 5:55 p.m., although he wouldn't tell investigators what he was doing in his room for more than 5 hours.

When questioned about the timeline of that day, his story to investigators changed between 05/20 and 04/21. Initially, he said he was at the work site until 6:00 p.m., but then said he was maybe in his room for a short time watching TV. Evidence shows he was there 12:42-5:55 p.m.

It appears that #BarryMorphew mentioned suicide to Suzanne when she told him she was done with their marriage two days before she disappeared: “When I’m dead which won’t be long you guys will be taken care of... This life on earth is a mere grain of sand compared to eternity.”

On 05/08/20, Suzanne wrote a note in her phone about all the reasons she wanted a divorce from Barry. It appears he tried to look through her phone while they were on vacation, he accused her of having a boyfriend and he didn't like when she would take hydrocodone.

It's unclear why she was taking hydrocodone, but we do know that her cancer had come back. She confided in a close friend that she was worried about the toll her marriage was taking on her health.

The night before #SuzanneMorphew was reported missing, her Facebook codes were reset and people started friending her -- 23 old friends from Indiana, 20 of them were men.

The afternoon before she was reported missing, Suzanne sent a photo of herself to the man she was having an affair with. It's the last known photo of Suzanne alive. When investigators later show the photo to Barry, he said she looked drunk in the photo: “Those are drunk eyes.”

At one point during this afternoon's testimony, Judge Murphy scolded someone in the courtroom for not wearing a mask, saying masks need to be worn over the nose. Barry then pulls his mask up over his nose, but it immediately slides back below his nose, and he leaves it.

Since more evidence will be released at the trial than here at PH and it will be a jury, MOO there no way to peredict that outcome.
Personally, I hope justice prevails.

Without a doubt. He moved around way too smoothly, and took measures to cover his tracks. It was as if he was following a script.

The problem he faced though, is you can’t think of everything, and he’s not as smart as he thinks he is:

The trash dumps, the lie about working when he was in his room for 5 hours, the tranquilizer cap, and the avoidable mistake of actually putting himself in the vicinity of the bike location.

The chipmunk story took him a staggering 9 months to come up with, and he’d have been better served by being quiet.

I am very intrigued by one thing though:

Barry’s admission that he was throwing away tranquilizer materials. Something compelling must have forced him to come clean there, especially when he couldn’t remember what else he threw away (other than the boots).

I think it was more than explaining the cap, as he could have said he didn’t know where the wrappers or whatever it was, was disposed of.

I mean it's hard to say. I know there is still more evidence. We have more days of prelim PLUS whatever they are holding. I just thought there would be more at this point, a smoking gun, if you will.

I have a hard time believing a jury in a town like Salida would convict solely on electronic evidence. In a bigger city, maybe but I don't know. That's still "new" technology.

I’m wondering if he didn’t follow Jennifer Dulos - to me I was most shocked by her text of May 6 to him - the “I’m done- let’s be civil” but his response was IMO to plan her murder, take all her money and get a lawyer to get guardianship of her when she was reported missing - this is all planning on his part and he had moderate success- until his arrest

It seems like the most important information (phone, truck, tranq) was available early on. Just curious what everyone thinks.

With all those trash stops.. do you think LE found any evidence in the trash connecting Barry to Suzanne that they aren't telling us? Or do you think we would have heard about that by now?

I don't know what LE may have recovered. BM did confess to throwing away tranquilizer. So I think perhaps he thought LE had recovered it. Moo

I remember when Andy started searching, on the very first day he made an announcement to the searchers to look for ripped/destroyed clothing. Kind of looks like they didn't find anything if Barry threw out what Suzanne was wearing.

I can't decide, trash trips, then the stopping at the site the bicycle was found. Then that he came home and she was never heard from again.

I have said before, I felt they had what they needed early on...I think they gave themselves a year ( more or less) hoping he would lead them to her body.

If he's not talking and it's recording a podcast he's listening to, it's a public broadcast and admissible. Suzanne's conversations with her boyfriend, it's her recording of her own voice - not sure if his voice can be used though, or if she was using earbuds or loud speaker, but it probably depends on laws in his State. I see it as the defense's problem to get that part in for trial. Perhaps not even necessary if they stipulate to the affair.

ETA sorry I just realized you said one party consent, so the bf doesn't need to consent anyway. I was thinking of two party when I wrote that.

I wasn’t thinking about the affair but him listening to true crime podcasts that depict the way his wife went “missing” thanks for the clarification

This is from @kshultz06082 post. Lauren did tweet it. This clothing had to be Suzanne's. I wonder if the light blue bag was her purse.

He brought them to his room along with his hiking boots. He could have doused them all in chlorine, including the boots after he removed the laces, of course.

So at 058:00 they say the Defense revealed that SM was on antidepressants. I don’t know if they actually had someone in the courtroom or not. Didn’t hear that from any local reporter. Just find it interesting. Don’t want to derail the thread with a debate lol.
Maybe Lauren will clear it up.
