Prosecutors Outline Barry And Suzanne Morphew's Movements On Days Around Her Disappearance

This article states that the tranquilliser material was from BM's garage - has that been mentioned before?
Sorry for the haphazardness of my posts - it's a Sunday and I get to spend the day cooking and baking which relaxes me but I get distracted from other things
Yes there was one tweet I saw saying it was from the garage -

From there, he drives to his work site and then goes to McDonald's, where he throws something else away. He then goes to a car wash. He then takes another trip to a dumpster, where he told investigators he was throwing away tranquilizer materials from the garage.

Thank you!!
Thought it may have been error in reporting as I hadn't seen it.
So he just has tranquilliser stuff to hand.

I don't have one of these systems (but I have a ferocious and protective dog, so don't go thinking I'm an easy hit!), so I have a question...
If the CCTV system was installed in association with a company that provides security services (i.e., responds to an emergency security call), could the DVR be that company's equipment? So, once the Morphew's opted not to continue the security services the previous owner might have used, the equipment had to be returned, like equipment is returned when you cancel cable or internet services?
ETA: Oops, I see @IRBHTX already asked this. Sorry!
I must say I dont know the answer to that, My family and I monitor our CCTV as does our dopey dog. Although we have a DVR hard wired to the cameras we also have the DVR hooked up to the our router so we can keep an eye on home via the internet when we are away.

Nice find. I believe his gun safe was also in the garage.

Yes, acquired it, stored it, and then thought he may as well take it with him to HIE, and throw it away.

It doesn't sound as if Suzanne thought cameras in the garage weren't working :

Agent Grusing spoke with Sheila about #SuzanneMorphew list. More examples of grievances: concerns about recovering from cancer with #BarryMorphew still in the picture. Concerns about cameras in the garage. Accusing Suzanne of Boyfriend. They spoke with Barry about this.

A possible time to use the truck for hiding SM, between 2:47pm and the data wipe (+5:30pm?) +2.5 hours, while leaving his phone at home.
I’ve always suspected he left his phone home with SM’s phone while he was out disposing of her body/evidence so he could say he was home with her all night.

Well, I have just been trying t0 catch up, and that is 7 hours of my life that I will never get back! (and even then I skipped a lot). Such a sad and awful story - and what is it with the daughters of wifekillers (OK, not proven yet) that they support Daddy despite all the evidence of his murderous awfulness? For example, check out the daughters of Jason Rohde and Rob Packham in South Africa, and Borce Ristevski in Australia. And no doubt many more.

This is a MURDER CASE not a DIVORCE CASE. People seem to be confusing the two. If you're getting a divorce, it's not good to have had an affair. The judge may grant you less favorable terms. Unless the jury is made up of a bunch of psychos, they're not going to find Barry not guilty of murder because his wife had an affair. In fact, what better motive for Barry to murder his wife then an affair? Why would the jury let Barry off the hook for a murder if he murdered her? If self-defense is on the table, then maybe a jury would let a murderer off the hook, but there's no self-defense claim being made here. An affair is the worst thing for the defense if the jury follows their instructions and if the jury isn't made up of a bunch of sick creeps that think that an affair justifies murder. It's disturbing that so many people in these comments seem to unconsciously think that an affair is a justification for a "not guilty" verdict. This unconscious bias shows up in the way questions about the case are phrased.

It may be true in some states, but in Colorado, affairs are not going to change the community property terms. Does. Not. Matter. No fault divorce state. I realize that people from other states may not realize this.

Sometimes, when there's a bitter custody dispute over small children, people may try to use the adultery brush to paint the other partner as bad - but there were no children to fight over in this divorce. Minor child would have been asked their preference and the Court almost always awards 50/50 unless one of the parents is mentally incompetent or a felon or a pedophile or something.

Spying on and collecting data on one's spouse is a pretty useless activity, outside the dynamics of the relationship and the need to know on the part of each party.

The unconscious bias, though, is clearly very strong. Reading comments here and around The Internets, it's clear that some people are going to find it hard to convict Barry of Murder 1, if he came home and found his wife texting a cute picture to another a man - a man he had already thought was too close to her, back when he found some of their texts. Hopefully, the mountain of evidence still to come will be overwhelming and the verdict will be reached quickly.

What a mess in the meantime.

It happens all the time, which is why I’ve been saying since the early days that the daughters will support him to the bitter end, and beyond (appeals).

We had a famous case in Massachusetts where a doctor murdered his wife of 30 years, while on a morning walk. The details were salacious (countless affairs), and the evidence overwhelming.

His children continue to support him to this day, despite also being incredibly intelligent people.

Facts and evidence are no match for love and emotion.

Sad.

Agree Diddian. To date they have not found her. If BM pre dug a hole with the bobcat that BM later buried her in, the bobcat would indeed be involved. If they have not found her - how do they know this did not happen ? We will have to wait and see. The fact that he replaced that part on the bcat feels significant to me. IMO
I feel like he pre dug a hole as well....just to be ready. Then all he had to do was get her out to where ever and toss her in. Maybe throw a tree on top so no one can do radar over her...and to mark the spot where he put her like an athletic trophy. Cuz she's dead...he ends marriage on his
terms and keeps all of the money and property...and all of the sympathy for being the devoted widower.

Your from Massachusetts? I thought you were from Tampa?

I sure hope the AA will have a lot more on the Broomfield job.

It makes no sense at all.

How did he get this job in Denver when he works in the Salida area?

When did he get this job?

What was the scope of this job? It sounds small and very limited.

Did he go back and do more work there after Mother's Day?

Sleuthers here have already answered many of this questions. The person in charge of distributing this contract was an old friend from Indiana. He got the job more than a year earlier and completed it badly (Lauren has pre- and post-repair pictures; now it looks like the kind of wall one typically sees in Denver - it didn't, before).

No, he did not go back and do the work - another firm did the work and Lauren went out to take a picture.

The scope of the job was to repair the work he had done and been paid for, with no further cost to the State of Colorado/Department of Transportation.

If you can find Lauren's pictures (I know it's daunting), you'll see the difference between the two jobs. Everyone in this line of work who has commented has said it would require a Bobcat or similar to repair it.

Bobcat required per the contracted vendor who sub-contracted to BM.

-Bobcat required
-No Sunday work allowed.

And:
Just logistically on BMs part:
-No materials ordered

MOO enough has been shown to go to trial already.

Interesting that, if he wasn't going to take it, he bothered to take the time on Saturday to replace the plate or the thing the plate mounts on or whatever it was that he had replaced. It's like he didn't want LE to see the Bobcat without that repair and ask what might have caused the damage.
I wonder if there were others around to attest to exactly when the bobcat was damaged. Or if the damage was sustained when Barry happened to be alone? Or if he gave any explanation about it when he changed the blades?

I'd bet that Barry had gloves in his murder kit.

While it's possible he remembered to put Suzanne's hands on it, it's more likely to me that Suzanne - perhaps with the help of a handyman - installed the thing in the first place, so she handled the cables quite a bit - perhaps moving them around for cleaning behind things, as most people do when they deep clean.

All Barry had to do is put on gloves, which is a common sense criminal thing to do while staging a crime scene.

DNA analysis might have shown that Barry touched it last, if he had not worn gloves.
smart enough to dispose of boots....I would think that same caution applied to wearing gloves.

Since we are now thinking BM used an older car to dispose of SM, that explains the Sheriff's request for neighbors to save any surveillance footage.

Dare we hope LE has video evidence that one of the Morphew's older, non-GPS- equipped cars was used on the afternoon of the 9th?

  • #159
Maybe because where he deposited SM's remains he couldn't get to with the trailer attached.

DSI employee that removed the Bobcat blade will know if it was maintenance, the blade worn to replacement spec, or damage.

I dont remember seeing it in the main twitter accounts people were kindly posting live as we followed along. That's probably how we missed it.

Well done Tortoise for digging it out.
