Gun Safe?
We have a large gun safe, which is in our garage. It houses quite a few guns and ammo, and on occasion, other items of worth because of the fire resistance rating on our safe. Gun safes are extremely heavy, and I would be very surprised if the Morphew gun safe was taken out of the garage by LE. I felt the bolded above in al66pine’s post was meant to mean when the house was “returned” to the Morphew family after that first search. IMO
@windrower bbm Thanks for your post. :)
Now, "returned" phrasing makes more sense if the safe was not physically removed from garage.

Catching up from a few days ago... If BM disposed of SM's body before the 5:30pm truck system reset, that obviously means daylight hours. So I doubt he would have driven that far to do it -- too risky in terms of being seen or captured on camera. JMO.

Good point. And perhaps, a good reason to do it before dark, practically speaking.

@NoSI : You are the greatest!

Adding my heart-felt appreciation for your efforts.

Hoping and praying tomorrow and Tuesday aren't too difficult to take, especially for the daughters.

I remember during the Kauffman County prosecutor murders, FBI profilers were brought in to devise a plan to get the prime suspect to talk.

They eventually settled on bringing in a high ranking Texas Ranger, as they believed the suspect would see him as an equal. It worked, the suspect allowed him into his home, and the investigator saw things that developed the probable cause necessary to get a search warrant.

I wouldn’t be surprised if profilers were involved here, to a similar end.

Get Barry to keep talking.

This sounds like an interesting case. I found the WS thread on it so now I have a new rabbit hole to go down -- in between checking this thread tomorrow. Thanks!

LIVE NOW -
Lauren Scharf and assistant, Sarah Hempelmann, are doing a YouTube Live, taking questions, LS will go over notes from previous 2 days of Preliminary Hearing.
Thanks Error 505. Very interesting and kind of creepy. At the 46:57 mark (appx) Laurens says Barry told them he was looking for the turkey's beard.

Per Google
As male turkeys mature, they developed a clump of slender, fibrous feathers in the center of their breast, which is referred to as a beard or a tassel. ... Like the fleshy head appendages, turkey beards are believed to be an aesthetic feature intended to attract mates; beards become more erect when a tom is aroused.

So, 9&1/2 hours to go!
I hope we hear tomorrow about evidence for this charge:

Tampering with a deceased human body – That between May 9 and May 10, 2020 he disposed of the body or parts of a human body or human remains.

Very interested in what they have. (As we all are.)
I'm both looking forward to it and dreading it, in equal measure.

Bringing this question by @rainbowshummingbird over from the last thread because I was too late to answer it before the thread closed:
“In your professional dealings with criminals and suspected criminals, is it easy for you to spot narcissists and pick out their traits? It’s interesting how consistent and predictable their behavior is. They seem to repeat the same strategies: lies, projection, denial, gaslighting, etc.

If you were to interview a criminal who was much more intelligent than Barry, more sophisticated, more at ease, a better liar; then that individual would more likely be a psychopath?”

When an investigator sits down to interrogate a suspect, he or she has likely amassed some background information from those familiar with the victim and the suspect. You go into the interview with that information in the back of your head and you also closely observe your suspect for “tells”. Most law enforcement agencies provide training on interrogation techniques, but that doesn’t necessarily include in depth information on personality disorders.
The thing is, investigators are trying to solve the crime. They are most interested in who did it as opposed to understanding the psychology behind the
perpetration. Some investigators take it upon themselves to study various personality disorders because they want to understand the motives behind a criminal’s behavior. Some departments have psychologists on staff who will observe interviews and advise investigators on what techniques may be more effective on a given subject.
In SM’s case, the job of the investigator is to bring hard evidence to the prosecutor which proves that the suspect has committed the crime for which he is accused. During trial, the prosecutor may bring in psychologists, or psychiatrists to show that the suspect suffers from a disorder which may have contributed to the likelihood that he committed the crime.
For some interesting reading about narcissism and psychopathy check out this article from Psychology Today:
Narcissist or Psychopath—How Can You Tell?

This is why I love you.
There really is a fine line but maybe not so much.
Narcissists/sociopaths are masters at manipulation and the science of the mind is terribly ignored.
The brightest in their field agree that all of these personality disorders are way too generalized. You can go from sociopath to psychopath in a second. Let's not forget borderline and mpd/did. Schizophrenia is a catchall.
These types of murderers are that good at convincing people, anyone, that they're innocent.

Slightly anxious about what will be revealed today :( and will be thinking of Suzanne, her girls, family and friends.
Am working but will be sneaking off to check in from 3pm onwards.

Thanks to @NoSI for being the 'boots on the ground' so to speak, and to everyone who will be providing updates throughout.

Same here!
It'll be 2300 when it gets going here.
I should be taking a nap, but am trying to get caught up with the threads.
I've already told my lovely husband that I shall be worthless for the next two days.
He is not only understanding, but he always provides for me my sustinence during these particular live WS cases.
What a sweetheart.

3:15 a.m. in Colorado and I can’t sleep! Going to make coffee and set an alarm just in case. The dog will want to go out at 4:00 like clockwork and have her brekkie.
Just saw this article. It’s the first one I’ve seen that doesn’t say SM vanished during a bike ride. Not even “reportedly “.

Suzanne Morphew case: Barry Morphew back in court Monday | 9news.com

SALIDA, Colo. — Barry Morphew will be back in court Monday for the second half of a preliminary hearing to determine whether there's enough evidence in his case to proceed with trial in the death of his wife, Suzanne.
Suzanne Morphew, 49, of Maysville in Chaffee County, was last seen May 10, 2020, and is presumed dead.

I just don't get the sense of BM charming anyone here. SM knew this man--she knew him very very well. And she knew he would not let her go without a fight. The house was purchased with money she had inherited. Everything on hinged on SM playing the same role she'd played for years. I think she hoped that he could be reasoned with, or made to understand that their miserable marriage wasn't working, and the best thing for everyone would be a divorce, but I don't get the sense at all that SM's guard was down to Barry. He was trying to take her pain medications. He needed to control every part of her and she was still in the thick of that. JMO.
We can't oversimplify the complexities of relationships....tempting as it may be. Suzanne wrote those love letters to Barry just months before she disappeared...if I am not mistaken. That would have been in the midst of the affair. In fact...those letters, imo, while likely not appreciated by Barry, would have stroked his ego and reinforced his dominant position. So Suzanne was writing those letters to Barry, while texting JL....very sad and convoluted scenario. She must have been an emotional mess.

Lauren makes a good point towards the end of tonight’s live. We still haven’t heard from an investigator with Chaffee County or CBI.

Haven’t heard what hotel search revealed.

No audio from Barry’s interviews.

Why do they think Suzanne is not alive?

How do they connect it to Barry?
five dumpsters identified....It would be a remote but pleasant surprise if they managed to retrieve some physical evidence from the dumpsters or landfills. This circumstantial case needs plenty of physical evidence to connect the dots. What articles were thrown away, and why? What reason would Barry have to haul some of these articles three hours from home when a dumpster was located adjacent to his home, provided by the association?

You’re absolutely right, @MassGuy. Most folks think of profilers as the people who help identify an unknown subject. And they do, using their data to figure out what kind of person incl. sex, age, background, education, etc. that LE should be looking at to find their suspect.
But, profilers can also help even after the suspect is identified just as you stated above. They help LE figure out which switch to push to bring a person from being a suspect to an accused.
