Here's a puzzle. Why did Barry put his phone into airplane mode at 2:47pm? It had already recorded him coming home, why, in the middle of a chase was that so important to do right then? Why would it look suspicious for example for his phone to be near Suzanne's in their own home? It doesn't appear that they were able to track Suzanne's phone's movements. I get that it seems he had a plan to switch his phone into airplane mode at some point, to hide his whereabouts, but it seems as if it was a priority for him and even that action is going to be a red flag to investigators while he is supposedly in his own home. He could have just put it down somewhere, that would have been less suspicious.

As long as I assumed that hiring a third person was possible (and the fact that everything was so clean might point at it, as well as minus 70 K), I think that maybe the goal is not to conceal that BM's phone is close to SM's. It is to conceal its proximity to some other phone.

Somehow the fact that Suzanne's phone is sending invites to some guys on FB ties into it, but I don't know how. I think it was definitely done intentionally, and not by her, but sometimes you send 10 invitations to hide one. Have all of these guys been looked into?

BM's good friend said that if BM wanted to make a body disappear so it could never be found, he could do it. I'll take BM's good friend's impressions about that.

IMO, there is NO WAY BM would have paid an unsavory type to get rid of SM's body. Why? Three reasons:
  • It was something he likely believed he'd be better at (just as his friend believed he'd be good at it);
  • Doing it himself meant he wouldn't have a potential witness out there who, next time they got themselves in serious trouble with the law, could trade info about BM to make things easier on themselves; and
  • BM is too cheap to pay some drug addict, meth head, or former convict good money for anything other than to save himself hard labor (and even then, he is himself being paid).
Plus he wouldn't have the satisfaction of "completing the job." This was personal. No way he farmed it out to someone else IMO.

Wasn’t the dryer empty in the body cam from yesterday?
Sounds like it had to have been empty because they said the Investigator was swabbing it and then they mentioned a “plunking “ noise when he set the cap back down.

Ha! At the same time you were posting this, I was posting my edit to add a 4th reason that aligns with yours!

His DNA can likely also be excluded from the neighbor's house down the road, the daycare center in town and local museum. This game could have no ending.

Sometimes absence of the DNA when you'd expect it to be there (everywhere - they lived in the same house!) is more questionable.

I'm not saying he didn't do it, it just worries me that everything is circumstantial. I always think about the juries in the OJ Simpson trial and the Casey Anthony trial. Most of the general public doesn't have minds that work like ours (WS members), I wish they did but they don't.
I completely agree.
I 100% believe what he did what horrific and we may never find SM. Even with all of @MassGuy's list, those things may paint a picture of what we believe, but they do not prove that he killed her. What we haven't seen is their evidence that she is deceased. I still remain hopeful that this is strong and bulletproof.
They have thus far proven he is a lying, egotistical, self centered person. I think the D team can destroy every one of those with the "is it possible that" questions.

Barry's timeline Sunday morning going to Broomfield.

"Around 5:37 a.m., Morphew was heading towards Buena Vista, driving through Johnson Village."

@LaurenScharfTV
·
Aug 10

Takes about 32 minutes to drive to Johnson Village from #BarryMorphew home. Neilsen said this is according to Google directions. Based on phone data, he is in Johnson Village at 5:37 am.

Lauren Scharf
@LaurenScharfTV

"Do you think there is time to dispose of a human body in that time?" Neilsen asked. "No there is not," Agent Grusing replied.
3:21 PM · Aug 10, 2021

At 8:10 a.m. he stopped at an RTD bus stop in Broomfield off Highway 36. His passenger door opened, and according to data, it took him about two minutes to throw something away that was a few feet from his truck.

Morphew then went to the Holiday Inn Express in Broomfield, where he made another trash run. At 8:25 a.m. Morphew walked into the hotel and went to his room at 8:38 a.m."

SUZANNE MORPHEW: Where was Barry Morphew on May 9 and 10? | FOX31 Denver

Google maps show Johnson Village to Broomfield RTD bus stop via HWY 285 as 2 hrs 23 minutes.
Google Maps

My math sucks (asking for help :D) Johnson Village to Bus Stop = 5:37 to 8:10 = 2 hrs 33 minutes? Assuming one goes the speed limit ;)
If he turned on to 285 at Johnson Village, he would not have had time on that trip to go to Berthoud Pass.

I don't have any idea what you're talking about here. Can you name the witness that you think I want and explain why you say so?

Oh, I meant anyone with direct evidence of affairs by Barry. No, I will not name the person, person's name is likely redacted from the AA as well, as is proper at this point in time. There is at least one person who has publicly made this claim.

There are a series of facts that could not be established at the PH without calling witnesses who might be made vulnerable or harassed if their names get out this far ahead of the trial. I think the Judge is trying to protect all the witnesses.

Then there's the whole set of witnesses and experts who could verify money problems (I just reread your post). I think there are good reasons why these witnesses and experts weren't at court. The process of subpoena and the process of paying experts are good reason to conserve Chaffee County's resources until trial.

Now that I think about it, I bet Judge Murphy's staff is putting post-its on those pages of the now printed-out 4Tb of data. But some of it we already know through the utterances of Suzanne's family members - two witnesses in particular from that group have knowledge of the various financial issues.

I also believe that as to DV, there is at least one other family member who has made a specific statement revealing that she knew of the violence (at least according to the text evidence from SO that we've already heard).

SO herself would be a witness at the trial; we haven't seen all of her messages or heard anything about any phone calls between her and Suzanne. But again, subpoenas are not a normal thing at a PH. The Judge knows that the sworn testimony of investigators is what he is supposed to use.

We just aren't going to see all of these people and exhibits at the prelim. But the Judge has many sworn affidavits and documents to view.

I do have a more general question for everyone. Was it SO whose text messages or utterances clarified that Suzanne had opened perhaps two bank accounts, one with the word Green in it? (I can't remember the name right now).

Anyway, @RIPRM, if SO had showed up in person with her social media records and testified to the financial issues, would that have helped you with the missing evidence? And then a forensic accountant? It's possible that the forensic accountant hasn't even been hired yet. If I were CCDA, I wouldn't spend the money just yet.

I think Suzanne burned her journal. To keep Barry from spying.

Why would she do this on Mother's Day weekend? And why in the family fireplace? Was she planning on going missing? Why didn't she just take the journal? LE said they found other journals but not "the journal" that the daughters said she kept near her Bible.

Barry could have spied on it at any time, as it was sitting in plain view in the little anteroom just outside their first floor master bedroom with her Bible and her AA book.

I think it was speculation that grew legs.
Same as Suzanne implying to Barry in a text that she didn't care who he'd been with.
Neither have ever been stated (that I can find) but they still come up.

jmo

This is exactly what it said.

The text message on May 6 that #SuzanneMorphew sent #BarryMorphew reads, “I’m done. I could care less what you're up to and have been for years. We just need to figure this out civilly.” Barry had deleted but investigators found it.

I believe the reason it grew any legs is because he told his D team she was implying she was done with coffee with her neighbor. That's laughable like many of his answers. The actual text is damning enough!

ETA: I think there may even be a 4th reason: I think BM is proud he was so good at making SM disappear and throwing around smoke after such that LE has not found her and his family believes his claims he had nothing to do with it.

That missing 70K is concerning. I exclude LE, so I think it could be someone from the household.

For what it’s worth I doubt this Berthoud Pass search has anything to do with Suzanne. BM would have to have driven through Breckenridge to get to I70 and then up a May/2020 well-traveled road to Winter Park.

I’m doubtful BM knew much about Grand County. Chaffee County/hwy 50 and 285/local BLM and USFS lands are what he is familiar with. Little roads are his territory.

.

I think he does lie, but being BM, he could have hired someone outside Salida to help him, some totally unsavory type. BM hunts, he hires different people to work for him, he sells antlers, he can come across someone who is not linked to him and can murder for hire. Only, unlike KK the clean-after-murder nurse, the person did not take the cellphone as incriminating info with him.

Then BM could have been, indeed, in Broomfield, when it was happening.

That could explain $70 K missing. This is a good payment for some criminal, who, too, disappears, because least of all he wants to be tied up to the case.

Thank you!! That was the other item I left off of my list of LE missed opportunities:

SM's secret bank account had not been investigated? This I read but I was never able to confirm that. Does anyone know if that's correct? LE did not look into this?

I am beginning to think the missing 18 miles on his truck was the pit stop at poncho springs to throw a phone and charger in a dumpster. It’s about 10 miles from Salida to Poncha springs but I don’t have the exact addresses of their home to the store he was dumpster diving in. Probably could easily add a few more miles. If I have time I’ll look it up. All jmo
Here ya go.

MOO IMO

As we await more news or some confirmation as to whether the FBI evidence search at Berthoud Pass is related to SM’s case, I thought I would dig into the known timeline we have so far (many thanks to the contributors of this timeline), to determine when BM would have placed SM’s body at this location IMO.

I believe he could have done it in the 6hr window between Sat night 5/9 and Sun morning 5/10.

What we know about BM’s movements, with my notes interjected as indicated by the ^^^^ arrows:

Saturday 5/9

9:25 pm Truck gear goes into reverse and goes back 95 feet in driveway

9:52 pm truck door closes

^^^^ I had previously theorized that this action was BM backing up his trailer from the garage to the spot in the driveway where helicopter news footage would show his trailer and bobcat parked at the house. It took him about 30 mins to unhitch the trailer, unload the bobcat and secure everything.

10:17 pm BM phone out of airplane mode

10:18 pm – 4:32 am (5\10) BM’s phone plugged in at PP*** (d)

^^^^ It is presumed that BM’s phone was plugged in at home for approximately 6 hrs. Therefore, the belief is that his truck was also at home during this time (while he was sleeping next to SM).

^^^^ I theorize he could have taken one of the other family vehicles without GPS tracking and driven to Berthoud Pass. If he was on the road by 10:25p and going above the speed limit, he could have made it there within 2hr and 15min, putting his arrival time around 12:40am. If he tossed SM’s body over the edge of the cliff and then was on the road back home by 1:00am, his arrival time to PP would have been around 3:15am.

Sunday 5/10/21

2:53 am SM Outgoing call on SM’s phone

3:25-3:49 am BM car door opened 4 times and closed 3 times

^^^^ After getting home from his trek to Berthoud Pass, the activity with his truck picks up. He starts to prepare to leave for Bloomfield.

3:58 am BM cell moves from home to near 225/50 where bike found

^^^^ He is now leaving the house to set his Broomfield alibi in motion. He may have headed to MG’s apartment at this point as she had said she heard his truck outside her apartment around 4:30am.

4:22-4:23 am SM last signal from phone, quite away from home, near a park. Not connected to cell tower. (@NoSI)

4:30 am SM’s last phone ping near Poncha Springs (from Tweet)

4:31 am BM phone into airplane mode

^^^^ ETA: He puts phone back into airplane mode so he is not tracked while staging the helmet or disposing of evidence.

4:32 am BM phone unplugged*** (d), contradicts BM cell at 50/225 at 3:58

ETU between 4:32 and 5:00 am BM turns west (left) on US50 because he was following an elk, should have turned east, (right) to go to Bloomfield

^^^^ This would have taken place after leaving MG’s apartment

5:37 am BM phone off airplane mode near Johnson Village turning on 285 heading towards Denver/Bloomfield

^^^^ ETA: He turns off airplane mode after staging helmet and/or disposing of evidence.

5:38 am BM text HMD to his mom

^^^^ At this point he was well on his way to Broomfield via Hwy 285 per his statement. The truck data would not show any association to Berthoud Pass because it was sitting at his home while he used another vehicle to dispose of SM’s body between approximately 10pm on Sat 5/9 and 4am on Sun 5/10.

IMO MOO

(Apologies if others posted something similar already in the time it took me to compile this)

ETA: formatting & removed the line about BM’s phone being in airplane mode from approx. 10p-4a while at home. I was mistaken as his phone was actually OFF airplane mode during this time frame. This is important because it tells me he obviously wanted his phone to be tracked and accounted for as being in the house charging while he was “sleeping”.

Somewhat doubtful, all service history is computerized now, definitely at Land Rover.

The only reason I can think of for a service tech to go to the glovebox would be to fix/replace something in that area, e.g. cabin air filters may be in that vicinity or any cooling issue with the glovebox.

I get all my work done at the dealership - I drive in give them the keys and then my car is driven off - they have free rein to touch anything/everything including the glove box. Sometimes I wait, sometimes I take a loaner car and come back at the end of the day. At that point who knows where the car has actually been all day - right?
If I need a yearly inspection sticker I sometimes take the car to my local gas station. Same thing happens there - I get out - then he drives the car into the bay and does his thing - he always needs the registration in the glove compartment for the inspection. I cannot actually believe IMO that this unknown dna is getting so much traction on this site. It is imaterial imo. But of course the prosecution should be prepared to address it when the defense goes on and on about it. Also what about a valet parking situation - and on and on

I think you can exclude the 70k from everyone because it probably never existed. It would be hard to prove that that cash ever existed and also went "missing" while his wife was also "missing". I doubt Barry cataloged the identification numbers on each bill, so how can he prove that he ever had that money and now someone else has taken it?
