I think you just nailed it. JL was thinking about JL. not SM. When it got down to the brass tacks JL tried to disappear. BM had no reason to harm JL as long as JL remains quiet. So BM and JL are who they are. Conspirators in SM disappearance. MOO.

I’m betting JL was wishing SM never reached out to him at some point during this time. I bet he was so scared and resentful that this happened to him. I don’t think he ever thought his love affair that he didn’t reach out for would turn into this. I know he was an active participant and I wish he would have stepped up but I do see how petrified he was at the same time.

The spy pen belonged to SM, that’s how the police found out about JL. Of course JL knew about the affair, he was in it. I’m sure BM was angry even after she was gone knowing she had an affair.

I think that would make sense that he almost wanted her found quick and it to be a true mountain lion story.

At the same time, I also think he was just spouting anything off to cover what he did and the mountain lions were a thing at the time. So meaning he might of just said that but knew she was buried so deep nobody would find her to corroborate the mountain lion story. Just a big lie that would never be proven.

What if JL turns out to be a star witness? What if he was just scared so bad of BM he clammed up until BM finally got arrested. Don’t forget it took a year for that to happen while he ran around on the loose. But now he feels safe finally. Don’t get me wrong I think he’s a weasel but he probably was scared for his life when he knew his lover was killed and he was next in line. I’m thinking if somebody was after me I’d be scared to come forward. He probably went back and forth every day she was missing if he should go to LE. I think he should have went to LE and I bet 1,000 percent he wishes he did now but he was just a petrified mess.

From what I recall, FBI reached out to JL on about Nov 13, 2020, and after he was assured that he was not under investigation, FBI told him they would protect him.

JL told authorities that as of that date, he still had not even told his wife about his affair with SM. JL did not believe BM knew about SM/JL affair because he thought BM would have come after him. He also told FBI that he didn't think BM was responsible for disappearing SM.

SM reached out to him. Yes he reciprocated because she was a gorgeous lovely woman. I’m sure he pined for her and adored the attention. I’m not sure he was ready to leave his family and life for her. He may have said he was but I’m betting he would have said whatever she wanted. He seems like a meek man who was so flattered by attention from someone “ out of his league” for lack of better words. Then boom he’s bombarded with her missing and he’s pissing his pants the husband is after him. He was sooo fing scared. He didn’t know what hit him.

Sm and JL allegedly hooked up in high school and JL admittedly maintained a crush on her and apparently she on him. I think SM was lonely, abused and yes bored. She reached out to him and he responded, because he still had feelings and memories of her.
So I think this "affair" had a lot of unfinished business attached. As young as they had been they found themselves still attracted to each other and I think their communication filled a void in their lives. And not a void of needing their time to be occupied. I think they genuinely cared about each other. Then it did become physical because they're both human.
I think they're affair was very much about feelings.

I wonder where the master bedroom is located. If it’s on the main level, I wonder if Barry crept around the house and peered in the window to spy on her (that’s a creepy image). If she was doing adult things with JL, she would’ve locked the door, and most likely the windows shades would be down.. maybe he listened from behind the bedroom door, and once she hung up he busted down the door and shot her with tranq dart…
Who knows. Nobody would be able to sneak up on me because my security system makes a loud noise every time an exterior door or window is opened, but we don’t know if they had a similar system.

Wow - this pulls together so many elements. Bedroom is on the ground floor. Changes the location of the tranq dart use and explains the busted door. Explains bathing suit top back in closet. See, I think Barry clued her in about knowing about the affair (when he mentioned AZ). He was warning her, shooting over the bow, so to speak. She didn't get it. She was moving very fast once she'd made up her mind. Their security system "wasn't working."

I am STUNNED by the number of people who are taking Barry's "clipped her" comment at face value.

Clearly they have been blessed to never have been a victim of domestic abuse or had a close friend or family member who was/is.

If he openly admitted to clipping her on one occasion, he beat the hell out of her on others. Abusers only admit to little things, to try to deflect the big things. From the state of the MBR door frame, he physically assaulted her on more than one occasion.

Controlled abusers are the worst, they're experts at not leaving marks and deflecting.

Barry is VERY controlled.

We have to start talking about domestic abuse openly. It's not always about violence. Honestly, the gaslighting and mental abuse are way more damaging than physical abuse.

I'm stunned too. I just said as much to my DH.
