Reacher, it's both. As a matter of fact, at the intersection where his shoe was found, Mt Herman and Sunburst, it is residential with a fully paved two lane road. It's not uncommon to see Horse back riding on that road. Past sunburst, at exactly that intersection, the paved road turns to dirt and becomes rougher.

Always such a help on threads to have locals onboard!

I'm assuming that autos are driven on the paved portion of road. When the road turns to dirt, is it still big enough for cars?

If so, then that makes me wonder if orginal assault was a car bumping the bike. ?? imoo

ETA: Sorry if this has already been covered...I'm coming from behind here.

If you start at the bottom of Mt Herman and go up Mt Herman road towards the top of the mountain, you are on the paved road which is 2 lanes.

When you get to Sunburst, which is a right turn, the road turns to dirt in front of you. There is enough room for two cars driving carefully. There is a lot of car and bike traffic there, as there is a parking lot for trail riders and bikers.

I have been in the car or walking and been very, very close to other people. Once a horse was so close to the car that I could reach out and pet the horse.

Really good description, Daey. Very helpful. I've been busy copying posts like yours here and MTBer's notes online trying to get a handle on the locations of TW, his shoe, and his bike.

But I'm still needing a good map to which I can apply the descriptions I'm collecting. Grrh...

If only I could stream videos and take virtual tours on map sites which others have kindly provided. :(

I cannot help with maps. I can't even find my way out of a large Target or WalMart. But if nothing has broken by Thurs when back in town, I could take some video or pics. Happy New Year.

I know I keep on about google but try googling
"Monument Co to Palmer Lake Co" and see if you get a map from that? When I do it, a small map with the route highlighted comes up and when I click on it it can be zoomed in to see road names etc.
It may not be possible on your pc but that's how I find map locations all the time.

Can even get street view on much of Mt Herman Rd.

For instance the intersection of Mt Herman and Sunburst

Per info I've gathered from the search party:
Bike found: "In Limbaugh canyon. It was a good 20 feet up off the trail with a flat tire and covered in leaves."

Shoe found:
"3 miles from Mt Herman gate."

Safeway card:
"Quick update- his Safeway card was found .5 miles west of his shoe."

There used to be a post on ND with gps coordinates, and it's there still but archived. Anyone know how to unarchive ND posts?

BBM - Oh, I can get out with no probs, but can't find my car! :scared:

I can't stream videos, but sounds like something that would be very helpful to others.

Best wishes to you and everybody here for a safe, Happy New Year.

Why was Tim's bike covered in leaves too?

  • #232
TW's shoe. Wasn't a shoe found away from one of the girls in Delphi? Maybe a misplaced shoe is a path (a tell) for the murderer to find his/her way back to the body. Maybe there's other landmarks the killer created too.

Why would a killer want to return to a dead body and risk being caught?

To have a second go at burying them or even moving them under cover of darkness or just checking nothing incriminating was left. Also returning to scene to see if the body has been discovered ? ( which was how DN's car reg and pic was taken, thankfully allowing him to be traced and arrested on his current charges. )

Moo cow

Also if he is a serial killer, to re-live the crime, to have sex with the corpse or for other sexual reasons, to be a part of the search so they can feed off the emotional turmoil and pain of family and searchers and be aroused by the excitement and foolishness of those who cannot find their quarry or assess their case .. oh there are many reasons they return, and many of them do this, it's not unusual at all.

sorry for the shocking content. MOO IMO

LOL indeed, Reacher! Just goes to show us that even our Wales friend gets things right sometimes. <jk Shires> But seriously, your map was most helpful as it gave me relief from endless searches trying to find the darn thing!

Also, I appreciated your post Re: "the multiple shots" link. Tried to respond to your post twice but was knocked offline...twice. Wanted to let you know that link (for some strange reason) would not download. That's happened with several links today. I'll try opening again tomorrow.

The first court date is 3 Jan IIRC. So Wednesday we could know any plea deals possibly.

What does everyone think will happen?

  • #240
What I think will happen is different from what I want to happen. Judging by the speed and progress made so far, my guess will be that literally nothing will happen other than DN pleading on the charges currently at hand.

I just wonder if he is pleading guilty to the minors in exchange for the possession of a weapon by a felon charge being dropped. If I were an attorney, that's what I would ask for. Meaning there will be less than 1 year served as far as CO goes.

I think if he is ever charged with anything else, it still won't come this week.

Let's face it. Every time DN goes to court, it seems each judge lets him off easy. He must have a really sad look on his face in court. Not the same guy who walks out of the courtroom and flicks off cameras.
