I don't know anything about this area -- is it a dangerous place to hike or climb, etc.?
The search was started very quickly. Hoping he is found to be in good shape soon.
Cute, happy-looking guy

It's not clear what route they were taking or why/how they got separated. There is one trail that goes up the south ridge that is marked as 'difficult'. It sounds like it is reasonable in difficulty for most of the trail, but it is uphill and then you have to scramble up to the ridge near the top using your hands. It is rocky and exposed in that area. It was fairly hot yesterday afternoon (high 80's) but began to cool down around 6pm. Maybe Torin didn't want to do the scramble part but his friends did, or vice versa. Or maybe he wanted to explore the rocky ridge more and others didn't. There could be rocky crevasses up near the ridge that you could fall into if you weren't careful.

The story appears to be removed from the first link, the Larimer County Sheriff's office page.

finally, my locale of expertise!

Horsetooth mountain open space is extremely accessible and not a difficult hike. The only potential for a fall would be at the top of Horsetooth Rock. There are houses all over. It would be difficult to get lost the trails are well marked. The only thing I can think is mountain lion. Not uncommon to see them.

Not surprising, but it still sucks.
My heart goes out to Torin's family. He seemed like a great lover of the outdoors.

He looks like a wonderful man. Such a bright, happy smile - it's hard not to smile back reflexively when I see his pics.

Rest in peace, Torin. You were loved.

I agree. He had such life in his eyes. I wish I could wrap his family and friends in a cloak of love.

In spite of the bad news, I do thank you, @subaw0067, for the info on Horsetooth Mountain. :)

Update: 6:35 p.m.: The Larimer County Sheriff's Office on Sunday afternoon said that a man who went missing Saturday in Horsetooth Mountain Park has been found dead.

The man, presumably Torin Thorsgard, was separated from his group, setting off a multiagency search that began about 6:45 p.m. Saturday. Search and rescue personnel looked for the man until after midnight before pausing and resuming the search Sunday morning.

The sheriff's office said an adult male was found beneath a rock ledge about 12:25 p.m. Sunday. His body was recovered and the incident is being identified as an unattended death. The man's identity and cause and manner of death will be released at a later date by the Larimer County Coroner's Office.

I can't visualize the body being found beneath a rock ledge. You can tell I don't hike mountain trails.

I can't tell what they're meaning by that. Do they mean under an overhang - like, where the ferns tend to grow, and you can duck under there to get out of the rain? OR, do you mean on the ground as if someone fell off a rock ledge that juts out?
