GUILTY CO - Tyler, 4, & William Jensen, 2, die in overheated SUV, Grand Mesa, 27 Nov 2012

Cremation is a good way to make sure the bodies are never exhumed...

Sure is. I really hope they collected all the samples for toxicology.

This is local to me :( The oldest boy went to my DD school, we recieved a letter today from the principal talking about Tyler and that counselors would be available for everyone.

No, mom is not in jail pending further investigation, LE had the judge seal everything it just a matter of time before she goes down I hope......

Newest article I have found:

Jensen tragedy a continuing heartache for family

Just last week, the grandparents of William and Tyler Jensen were fighting for custody over four-year-old Tyler Jensen. Now, they're left fighting for custody over the boys' bodies.

Robert and Diane Mathena want custody of the boys' bodies to give them a "proper burial," since they said the boys' mother, Heather Jensen, has plans to cremate the bodies.

Tyler passed away Monday night just after 9 p.m. when Tyler was taken off life-support. Doctors at Children's Hospital in Denver had been treating Tyler for extensive liver, kidney and brain damage since last Tuesday's incident on the Grand Mesa when Mathena said Heather left the boys in her car for an hour and a half. Emergency responders found William dead upon their arrival.

A local attorney has offered to represent the Mathenas pro-bono.

What a terrible story, this just breaks my heart.
Can't imagine loosing my son then my grand babies, the only thing left of my son. This is a sad story and my only hope is this monster of a woman pay and her soul eats her up.

  • #24
It really is very sad. And yes I believe there will be much more to this story.

  • #25
wonder if deceased husband had a will and if so, what it said.

Much more to this story I am convinced of that.

This woman became very unfettered by both husband and children within a very short mount of time in very unusual circumstances.

Her making the claim for dead husband's life insurance the very next day, if true, sticks in my craw big time.

you can have a leak in the exhaust near the front of the engine or where the exhaust
connects to the engine. I've had couple of older autos like that. Usually its very minor Carbon Monoxide that gets in and it's more when the windows are up and heater on. Many people would not notice it.

Even if you can, it doesn't appear to be the case with these children.

"A doctor who treated Tyler at Children’s Hospital told investigators Wednesday she did not believe the toddler suffered carbon monoxide poisoning the night of Nov. 27, according to court records obtained by The Daily Sentinel."

Snipped.................................

It's still unclear what caused both boys to fall so severely ill and ultimately what led to their deaths, but emergency workers were speculating that they were poisoned by carbon monoxide, according to KDVR. Authorities were investigating the SUV's exhaust system, looking for any presence of carbon monoxide as of last week. However, friends of the family have said that that the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning had been ruled out.

Authorities said in the affidavit that there was "probable cause" to believe that child abuse resulting in death had occurred, but were still in the process of investigation and were not sure whether criminal charges would be filed against the mother...

Jensens' grandparents face roadblock in custody battle

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO) – The family of William and Tyler Jensen learned today they must pay a $5,000 fee in order to file an injunction in the battle for custody of the boys' bodies.

The news inspired some in the community to spend the afternoon going door-to-door to businesses dropping off jars for the "Tyler William Jensen Memorial Fund" and collecting donations for the family.

"This is a tight-knit community and we care about our kids," said volunteer Heather Aspy. "I couldn't imagine losing a son, let alone three in a row, and this family needs some closure."

A vigil has been planned for two-year-old William and four-year-old Tyler Jensen Friday, Dec. 7th at 6 p.m. at Riverbend Park. The boys' grandparents say all are welcome to come together in remembering the young boys' lives.

In the wake of two little boys’ deaths, the family of William and Tyler Jensen say they are overwhelmed by the support they have seen from their Mesa County community.

From funds to funeral planning, help has come in a variety of ways, and the boys’ step-grandfather, Robert Mathena, says his tears of devastation have turned into tears of gratitude.

Mathena tells KKCO 11 News that the Palisade Funeral Home has offered to host William and Tyler’s funeral for free, and Colorado National Bank will donate candles for the vigil

Snipped....................................

Mathena says Heather’s actions surrounding the incident have been suspicious. According to Mathena, she cashed Eric's $50,000 life insurance check the day of the Powderhorn incident. According to her co-workers at Maverick Country Store in Clifton, Heather has stopped showing up to work the week before that.

Mathena believes Heather is trying to leave the state to go to Florida with her mother.

Neighbors say that three investigators and one deputy searched Heather's apartment in Palisade on Dec. 1 for nearly an hour and a half, and they left with three white bags filled with unknown items.

Her red Toyota 4Runner is impounded at the sheriff’s office.

Heather’s neighbor Crystal Allen says this is not the first hint of child neglect in the Jensen family. She tells KKCO that she found William wandering by himself in the middle of their street a couple weeks ago.

"Heather was, like, mad at me when I returned him to her,” said Allen. "I would not not know where my two year old is at any time."

How does one die from Carbon Monoxide outside..... I am really freaked out. Was the exhaust plugged? I am so sad for these boys family. I just don't understand what went wrong? People run cars all the time outside. Maybe all the exhaust was going in through a vent.. With both cars running. But still they are outside.

Just to address the one question, even if it might not apply in this case.

NOTE: I'm not a car mechanic, nor even one who has a lot of knowledge on these things, but I'm going with personal experiences, so take it for what it's worth...

Years back I remember riding in a friends' car, and you could smell the exhaust in the car due to some kind of leak. It wasn't a big deal when one was driving around with the windows open, but I would imagine it could build up if the car was idling with the windows closed for a long period of time. So, yes, it would be possible, but highly improbable.

I did have a personal experience where the exhaust or something wasn't working correctly on a (very nice expensive) RV I stayed in one night, and with it idling all night, we figured we were all pretty lucky to be alive, frankly... At least after he took it in to be re-checked, and the mechanic told him the alarm was busted, too. (Long story on that, but he had just had it checked before the trip - there was some talk about suing the original mechanic, so I don't know if it was something they missed, didn't hook back up properly, or what...)

As for this case in particular:

None of this sounds right though - the mom's story I mean. That doctors are saying it might not have been CO poisoning makes sense to me. However, I'm just reading about all of this right now. I'm sure the toxicology tests will reveal something - or I hope they will. I hope they take the original blood samples and test those (before they got loaded up with drugs in the hospital and all).

How horrible for the family though - to lose your son, and grandsons in a matter of weeks? I just can't imagine the horror and pain of that. My prayers and thoughts are with them. I pray the judge lets them bury their grandsons, and this woman isn't allowed to make a decision to cremate them. I agree with the other poster earlier who mentioned that it's a great way to get rid of evidence.

ETA: Sorry - didn't see that others had already mentioned about the leak in the exhaust.

The test could reveal something, if they test the right stuff. I wonder if she gave them something to fall asleep, or stay quit. I am not buying the carbon monoxide, I could be wrong. Unless she had that 4runner backed up to a wall...... I remember a case on here were 2 or 4 girls died from carbon monoxide in the car, I think sleeping, because the exhaust was covered up. What kind of accident did the dad have?

The Dad was killed in a car accident involving one other vehicle.

Sounds to me (due to her cashing in that policy ASAP) that even if she wasn't involved in her husband's death, she couldn't wait to be rid of him. But then there were these two little constant reminders of him....

So she got rid of them. Probably suffocated them, then met with her boy-toy so that boy-toy could later defend her by saying he saw the boys that night and they were asleep in the car. That's just my thought. I hope they have asked him a lot of questions to make sure he isn't involved in the boys deaths. Lots of men out there that have no problem with a widow, but a widow and a couple of kids fathered by someone else? Totally different story.

Although I believe that the mother's actions are suspect, I do want to point out that one of the first things one does after a death in the family, aside from call Social Security and the funeral home, is to notify the insurance company. So I don't really think that getting the insurance check quickly is unusual. Most folks need that money to cover funeral expenses.

I agree. It's my gut feeling that the boys were already dead when she went to meet the boyfriend and they just looked like they were sleeping.

At least one of the boys definitely was not dead, since he died in the hospital several days later.

Thanks Redhead72, i was'nt sure about new autos,i've only experianced CO problems in older autos, it can be quite bad. But people don't pay attention to it - so if you ever smell anything strange -get it checked or keep your windows open. Not saying that this happened to the little ones but it is a possibility, and its something to be aware of-since reading here people seem to think its not possible.

Doesn't seem to be a possibility according to what the doctor said. Carbon monoxide poisoning should be easy enough to diagnose.

Not saying this is maybe not the demise of these young ones. I'm just surprised that people don't know you don't need to stick a funnel into an auto for CO to be a problem.
