Groves was first convicted of second-degree murder in 1982 for killing Tammy Sue Woodrum, 17, and was released in 1987 on mandatory parole. In 1990, Groves was sentenced to life in prison for the slaying of Juanita “Becky” Lovato, 19, and 20 years in prison for second-degree murder in the death of Diane Montoya Mancera, 25.

The victims were identified as Emma Jenefor, 25, Joyce Ramey, 23, and Peggy Cuff, 20, who were all killed in 1979. He was also linked to the death of Pamela Montgomery, 35, whose body was found in an alley in 1988.

Groves stalked the Colfax Avenue corridor, and different jobs also brought him to locations throughout the Denver area, Yearling said. Some of the women Groves targeted were prostitutes, but others were acquaintances, he said.

DNA may link dead killer to as many as 26 murders

Cold-case detectives have positively matched a deceased serial killer's DNA to the decades-old murders of four women in Denver, and they suspect that he may be responsible for as many as 26 unsolved homicides, authorities said on Wednesday.

Colorado murder from 1987 committed by now-deceased serial killer, sheriff's office says
''A sheriff's office in Colorado said on Monday that it solved a cold case murder that occurred in Larkspur in 1987.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office said on Tuesday that 30-year-old Rhonda Marie Fisher was killed by Vincent Groves, who's tied to multiple killings in Colorado throughout the 1970s and 1980s. He died in prison in 1996.
Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said Groves and another man were long considered prime suspects, but new DNA technology was able to connect Groves to Fisher's killing through "trace" evidence — or small amounts of skin cells left at the scene of the killing and preserved at the time.''
