On Monday, police shared a photo of Virgil Delano Gambles, 49 years after he was killed. The shooting was carried out just before midnight on April 17, 1974 at a liquor store in the 700 block of E. Costilla St. The area is a few blocks west of Memorial Park.

Colorado Cold Case Files - Case Detail: Virgil Gambles
On April 17, 1974, 29 year old Virgil Delano Gambles was murdered. Late on the evening of April 17th, police were called to the Brown Jug Liquor Store located on E. Cucharras, regarding shots being fired. Earlier that evening Mr. Gambles went to the Brown Jug Liquor store, where a physical confrontation ensued between Virgil Gamble's brother and another male. Mr. Gambles, his brother and nephew left. As Virgil Gambles, his brother and nephew approached the front door of the liquor store shots rang out. All three parties were shot. Virgil Gamble was taken to the hospital where he died of gunshot wounds. Anyone with information regarding this case, is asked to please contact the Colorado Springs Police Department.
