In the early morning hours of July 30, 2020, 27-year-old Nicholas Rudd was brutally attacked in rural Starke County near Knox, Indiana. Around 3:30 a.m., Rudd ran to a nearby home on North County Road 1025 East, bleeding heavily from the neck and begging for help. A resident called 911, but despite the desperate attempt to save him, Rudd succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward. His death stunned the quiet rural community and left his family searching for answers.

Investigators say the violence began when a suspect kicked in the door of a nearby residence while armed with a hammer and a bladed weapon. At some point during the encounter, Rudd fled the home, but the attacker chased him outside and carried out the fatal assault. Surveillance images captured the suspect before the attack, but years later the individual has still not been publicly identified and no arrest has been made in the case.

Nicholas Rudd’s mother, Michelle, has remained determined to find justice for her son. She continues to speak publicly about the case, urging anyone with information to come forward so the person responsible can be held accountable. For Rudd’s family, the loss has left a permanent void, and until the case is solved, the question of who killed him remains unanswered.

What?! Another murder case where there's CCTV of the suspect, but it's still unsolved? I'm shocked that there's almost no media coverage of this apart from this one article. Poor Nicholas.

I think it is definitely a personal attack because this area is a small town and it was too specific for it to be a random home invasion.

Crazy that someone could get away with it for so long. It must've been someone that knew him, and the perp looks like (at least from what we can see) someone around Nicholas' age. It does seem very rural, I wonder if LE has any idea of what vehicle the perp arrived in.

If you read the transcripts for the podcast, apparently, the victim mentioned a bald man before he died. Could it be the headwrap the perp had on or could be a clue for the suspect's description?

I would also like to point out that the neighbors had to have been close if he ran to them with a serious neck wound.

I hope they dig more into his personal life and find out who would've wanted to do this. It can't be that hard to determine. Speculating, but based on his friend's interviews it sounded like it could've either been related to drugs or related to a romance issue. Seems Nicholas had been to prison before, had multiple children with different exes and he was staying at a friend's house when he was murdered. But his friend said he was trying hard to turn his life around.

How many people could've known he'd be at the friend's house? I hope investigators one day push harder for justice. How sad this perpetrator left kids without their father.
