"A woman found dead in a canal near Belle Glade this week was murdered, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Detectives identified the woman as Rasheda Byrd, 28, of Belle Glade. She was last seen Monday night getting into a candy-apple colored compact car outside her grandmother's home in the 600 block of Southwest Avenue C in Belle Glade, detectives said.

She was found dead early Wednesday morning in a canal off the 20 Mile Bend Boat Ramp Road near Southern Boulevard. Detectives suspect she was dumped there shortly before she was discovered."

Authorities are asking anyone who knows where to find the car or its driver to contact the Sheriff's Office at 561-688-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-458-8477.
