4 hour layover & he goes sightseeing in Bogota? Was that his plan or a spur of the moment decision?

Why was he flying to Sao Paolo? Business or pleasure?

Depending on traffic, it takes approx 30 minutes by car from the airport to La Candelaria. Most airlines want you to check in 2-3 hours in advance for international flights, so he would have been cutting it pretty fine.

There are a lot of direct flights from JFK to GRU (Sau Paulo). Assuming he was just going for a very cheap fare there are flights with stops but I didn't see any that stopped in Columbia - only Panama. Just a cursory check on my part, there may be other flights but it seems like an odd route of flight if Brasil was his destination IMO.

How very strange that there seems to be no real tying up of loose ends from when he presumably went missing, and now he has passed away in a completely separate incident that seems otherwise unrelated.

The obituary says he was living in Brazil since 2019, so when he went missing in Colombia, he was headed back home, by the sounds of it. Not just a random American tourist who went missing during a layover, which is sort of how the missing post made it sound.
