Colorado - Coronavirus COVID-19

Thanksgiving holiday isn't as busy on the ski slopes here as Christmas week is. In January I really believe the number of positive cases are going to soar here in Colorado.

Report: COVID-19 exposure has sidelined all of Denver's QBs for Sunday

Jeff Driskel’s positive COVID-19 test has sidelined the entire Broncos quarterback room.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter,Drew Lock, Brett Rypien and Blake Bortles have all been deemed close contacts and are ineligible to play against the Saints on Sunday afternoon. None of the quarterbacks were wearing masks when they came in contact with Driskel.

As of 6:45 Saturday night, the game was still on as scheduled. Schefter also reported the Broncos wouldn’t forfeit, so they’re going to have to get creative, but don’t expect 60-year-old John Elway to come down from the general manager’s booth.

I never thought I would see us pass Massachusetts and Louisiana on total number of positive cases but we just did.

Nightmares and tears: Covid-19 takes a heavy toll on health care workers in Colorado - CNN

COVID-19: In Conservative Colorado Town, Mask Wearing Gets Worse

Governor Jared Polis: My COVID-19 Infection Story

“He conceded, "I'm certainly not out of the woods, nor is Marlon. As we know, this can take a different turn."

BBM:
As for how he and Reis became infected, Polis pointed out that approximately one of every 41 Coloradans is carrying the virus right now. "There are exposures I know about, and also exposures I didn't know about" that might have resulted in him catching COVID-19 — but he suggested that his situation is no different from anyone else's. After all, he said, "If you're around forty people in a grocery store, chances are that one of them is contagious."

When his turn came, Fauci expressed sympathy for Polis. "You're a strong guy," he said. "Your constituents should know you're putting on a strong face."

Gov. Polis says Colorado prisoners shouldn't get COVID-19 vaccine before free people

(Um, yeah....we don’t even know if there will be enough doses for all the health workers, nursing home residents and essential workers at this point (jmo, according to some videos I’ve seen. No freaking way “Chris Watts” or “ARS” should get a vaccine before them imo...yeah I know, they’ve been transferred out of state, but YKWIM!).

However, projected doses look pretty good in Colorado it seems:

“Gov. Jared Polis previously predicted the state could get 100,000 to 200,000 doses in December and early January. Fauci said the 40 million doses that will be available in December — each person will receive two doses of the vaccine — will be distributed to states based on population, which means Colorado could get more than Polis has predicted.

Colorado’s draft distribution plan calls for health care workers to be first in line for the vaccine, including those who work in assisted living facilities.

First responders like police, firefighters, corrections workers and others deemed members of Colorado’s “critical” workforce would be next, then residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities, followed by people living in close quarters like prisons and shelters for the homeless. “

One in 40 people in Colorado are contagious for the novel coronavirus

More than 46,000 doses of coronavirus vaccine will soon head to Colorado. Here’s what happens next.

Colorado lab flips business model, turns to COVID-19 testing during pandemic

‘We’re Almost There’: Polis Expects 1st COVID-19 Vaccine Doses As Soon As Next Week

“In an interview with Colorado Matters on Friday, Gov. Jared Polis said the Pfizer vaccine would be made available first, followed a few weeks later by the Moderna vaccine. Both vaccines require two doses with 30 days in between.

"We are only hopefully a week away from the first highly effective vaccine arriving at our state," he said. "And I would encourage anybody just to look at the data on the efficacy of this vaccine — 90 percent, 94 percent, there’s two of them."

"We’re excited, double down, wear masks, avoid others," Polis exclaimed. "We’re almost there."”

Interview Transcript

“Ryan Warner: This is Colorado Matters from CPR News. I'm Ryan Warner. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 have been steadily climbing in Colorado to their highest numbers of the pandemic. Deaths from the virus are averaging more than 200 a week here for the first time since April. Meanwhile, lawmakers met this week in special session to help Coloradans who need financial life support. These are topics we'll broach with Colorado's Governor Jared Polis. We'll also talk about how vaccines will roll out in the state.”

[...]

“RW: And you remain in quarantine. Are we going to see any counties move to purple status, the strictest phase of the state's dial, the equivalent of a local stay-at-home order, anytime soon?

JP: Well, I sure hope not, Ryan. What that is designed to do is really make sure that we do not overwhelm our hospitals, which means that there would no longer be a bed, not just for COVID, but a heart attack, a stroke, appendicitis, whatever you need. We are not out of room right now, but it is very strained, very strained, some systems more than others, some parts of our state, more than others. We've been working with the hospitals around additional capacity. They have additional capacity since March, thank goodness, to serve people. We also have a little bit of room at the alternative care sites, which we monitor the information in real time and we stand by ready to trigger if needed.

RW: Okay. So no county is imminently going to purple. And it doesn't sound like those alternative care sites, which range from the convention center to other sites across the state, those are on standby, but you don't anticipate those opening immediately?

JP: That would be before any type of purple or anything like that. So the two that would be first would be Westminster and Pueblo, they're two smaller sites. And we monitor the hospitalizations really daily, even hourly, to see if that's needed. And right now I think what the biggest threat is, and we simply don't know yet, Ryan, is what people did over Thanksgiving. And will that lead to another surge that would necessitate the activation of those sites.

RW: Will the state's guidance, speaking of Thanksgiving, will the state's guidance for the December holidays mirror what you said around turkey day?

JP: We're going to learn a lot from Thanksgiving. So really, frankly, starting today actually, you should see the first test results in cases. I hope, I hope Ryan, that people avoided mixing households over Thanksgiving, especially if they went to see their elderly relatives. We'll really see over the next week exactly what that looks like. And that'll help inform the Christmas guidance for folks.

RW: Okay. And you expect to see the early signs of that today, the tail of Thanksgiving —

JP: Starting today. We'll start seeing some of the very first cases from people's Thanksgivings today. But I would say, let's give it three to five days to really form any conclusions on what Thanksgiving looked like. What's most important for folks to realize is, this is just the most prevalent in the entire country that coronavirus has ever been. So if you've ever worn a mask, wear one now and wear it properly, right? It's not a decoration you adorn yourself. It's a tool, it's clothing. Just like you wear your shoes properly, wear your mask properly. Avoid socializing with people outside of your household and try to stay six feet away whenever possible.“

[...]

“RW: The special session of the state legislature which you called, ended in the middle of the week and committed $342 million to COVID relief. When will we start to see that aid roll out? Like who benefits first, earliest?“

State rolls out COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan
As part of the three-phase plan members of the general public aren't expected to get the vaccine until summer.

“DENVER — People who have direct contact with COVID-19 patients for 15 minutes or more, such as emergency room workers and staff at longterm care facilities, will receive first-priority vaccines.

They will be followed by additional healthcare workers, staff at dental offices, hospice workers and first responders, which are all included in the first phase of the three-phase distribution plan.“

[...]

“Phase 2 would include the following:

  • Grocery store workers
  • Chronic health conditions
  • Educators
  • People who work in high-density environments (meatpacking plants)
  • 65 or older
  • Other healthcare workers not included in phase 1
  • Any adult who participated in the vaccine trial who received the placebo“
  • [...]

  • “The vaccine will not be mass distributed to everyone in those places as part of phase two.

At this point, the vaccine is only available to those 18 and older.“

I will remember the towns who refuse to wear a mask and be sure never to visit there. I am not going to concern myself with their economy if they are not concerned about my health.

Number 1 on the list - Castle Rock, Colorado.

you are so right....that goes for stores too. I no longer shop at my friends store because she does not wear a mask, will not distance, lets more people in then allowed, customers don’t have to wear masks either. This no longer a friend, can’t figure out why her sales are down!
