Comparing the Ramsey case to other cases

Is there any chance that the Rs got some inspiration from the Dowaliby case? The movie about it came out in February 1996.

But a huge reason why the R's got away with it is due to their connections and money so how could middle class and working class parents use their same "methods"?

A very excellent question, eileen. I simply meant that they have used the same media tactics: brainwashing themselves, avoiding the authorities, and putting the police on trial.

IMHOO there has never been another child murder case like JBR'S.

Dr. Sheppard was a psychopath? Explain please.

There are still quite a lot of people, myself included, that believe in spite of the second trial, Sam Sheppard was guilty as charged. I assume that is what the poster was referencing.

It looks like the JBR case is getting lots of viewing! 63 viewers??????

It seems like something is getting stirred up. JMO

The similarities are mind blowing.

It's like the Ramseys wrote the script and the McCann is following it to a T.

This is the case I always seem to compare it to as well. Maybe it is because both sets of parents had the money and influence to scare away the accusers.

Additiohally, I think both cases were "accidents' in the practical sense, atlhough murders in the legal sense. By that I simply mean that I don't think either parent or parents set out that night with a clear intent to kill their child. But when they did, or did what they percevied to be irreparable harm to them, or there was an "accident" (which I much more strongly suspect in the McCann case), they covered it up.

Striking though is the one crucial difference. The McCann's had the good sense not to write a phony RN and to be sure the body was really gone.

Makes me wonder if they actually thought it out that way "don't want to nake the stupid mistakes the Ramseys did"

This is something I've noticed: Whenever I read comments about recent cases, cases where it was proven that the child was abducted by a predator, people are so nasty about the parents. They trash them, and blame them for what happened to their children. But when I read comments about JonBenet's case, the ones by people who think an intruder did it, they are so compassionate towards the Ramseys. So I think all of this goes to show how effective their PR firm was.

Yes, they seem to think that the R's did nothing that seems "off" in the sense that their daughter was kidnapped and killed. For example, not talking to police when it happened. This is just my opinion.

Sometimes I think the Rs set the standard for what to do in these situations, and not in a good way, but a self preservation kind of way. They are the 1st people I remember lawyering up. Now it's par for the course, but back then, it was seen as strange. The 1 thing that stands out as similar between this case compared to others, is that the parents are quick to call police and report a kidnapping, and as long as the cops operate under the kidnapping theory, parents are accessible and so called forthcoming, but once the evidence leads away from a kidnapping, parents stop being so forthcoming. Like with the Rs...they called cops, opened their house to them, seemed to cooperate by showing them the note and giving them a list of possible kidnappers...but after the kidnapping theory was blown out of the water, the cooperation came to a halt. That seems to be the norm in these kinds of cases. moo

And this is why I have a problem seeing parents who act like this as innocent. If you think your child has been kidnapped, ok go with that. If you find her dead in your home, ok go with that. If experts find that your daughter has signs of previous sexual abuse, ok go with that. They should be thinking, "Now we're getting somewhere. This is somebody who knew my daughter and had access to her". An innocent parent would follow the evidence no matter where it led and want those answers. They should want to find this abuser turned killer-not deny the abuse. How could PR or JR say there was no abuse? There's no way they could know. JB went to school, visited people, was babysat, played outside with friends, was seen by neighbors. There was opportunity, so how could they say there was no abuse? Why would they take JB's doctor's word over the word of forensic specialists? And even if they were inclined to believe there was no abuse, wouldn't they consider this an avenue worth investigating? Just in case? moo

EXACTLY.but they knew sexual abuse points to someone in thre family and that's why they are so defensive.their reaction to this subject would have been TOTALLY different if they were innocent.

I just read a CNN transcript....now JR says it was a pedo,10 minutes later he says it was a kidnappe, then he says it was someone hating him...he can't keep their made up scenarios straight either...

Didn't they have an investigator working for them? Oh, silly me, the investigator was to build a defense for JR should he be charged. JMO
