Complaint Filed With McDonald's Claiming Clerk Screamed, Ran From "Little Person"

I get what yall are saying and understand and respect it but where could a person who is phobic of little people ( I do not know what the PC term is, sorry) work? I mean, wherever you go you are bound to see one at one point, but it really isn't that common of something you see daily. Either that or I just don't notice. I could your point more see if she worked for a specialist who specifically treats little people.
if you are phobic of anything, you shouldn't be expected to live in a box. The employee in question has bills and needs like all of us. Of course if you are scared of clowns you won't work at a circus, McDonalds isn't a little person haven though, it is not like that place or anyplace is filled with them all day like clowns in a circus.

According to this website: http://www.phobialist.com/

There doesn't seem to be a phobia of little people. I searched for: midgets, dwarves, little people, elves, gnomes, you name it.

There is a Microphobia, which is "fear of small things'.

Little people are considered John Q. Public. This person should have been a fry cook, a dishwasher, or anything NOT involving contact with the public at large. There were other positions where she could still make money.

On that note, Paladin...then it would be considered ridiculous for her to have taken a job where small children are among the largest population of their customer base. Wouldn't it?

Thsi will be a poor example, be forewarned. I watched Maury a few years ago and it was about phobia's There was a guest who was frightened of tin foil. Crazy i know.
I do feel for the guy filing the complaint, don't think that i don't I just don't want to see someone railroaded b/c they are mentally ill. I feel badly for the mentally ill.

I can't recall a job interview where I was asked if I have any phobias, and I certainly wouldn't tell an interviewer out of the blue I was scared of little people.

This person did nothing wrong.

The point is she should not have applied because she knew the condition existed.

I agree with SS.

Furthermore a company is responsible for the actions of their employees during work time.
Why should this person have been humiliated by the idiotic behavior of this little twit?
Its not even a listed phobia as someone above mentioned.
So what if she was phobic of blind people or black people?
Someone needs to just slap that girl and tell her to grow the heck up.
This was not a phobia it was someone acting like an 🤬🤬*hole.

What do you expect her to do for a living? yeah, work in the back, ok. SAy she was a cook and took her break, walked thru the lobby smack into the little person? The only thing she can do to avoid people like that is stay home, I doubt she can get a disability check for being afraid of little people.
Little people are everywhere. She cannot avoid them anymore than a racist can avoid black people. What she needs is mental help, not to be cloistered for life.

Could be, i may be completly Naive here, I just lean more towards the menatlly ill thing than her just being a cold bi**h and being cruel to someone different than her. i could be wrong, I just can't imagine someone being that mean, it happens though.

Great! She needs mental help not a job working with the public. While she is getting therapy, I would recommend a job such as Janitorial work at night where she isn't subjected to the possibility of ruining someone else's life.

If there is no phobia, she doesn't have a leg to stand on and neither do McD's.

I agree! She also does need help, but I certainly don't blame McD's for hiring her. She should have known it was expected of her to act professionally in her work place.

Oh please. No one's life was ruined.

Suggesting that this person gets mental help and works nights as a janitor is as silly as me suggesting that this little person needs mental help for their insecurity and that maybe they should only go out at night because of their appearance.

Come on now.

I dont think she would have made a scene if she actually wasnt scared. I know someone who has a fear of the Easter bunny and she literally cried and screamed and ran. They cannot help it.

True. There is a VAST difference between someone genuinely startled/scared and someone pointing and saying nasty things.

We have no way of knowing how this will affect the little person. Therapy may very well be in order for him to resume his normal life. Being afraid of facing the same reaction could cause him to retreat from society. Just saying.

As for the person that caused this situation, my suggestion for a janitorial job would be prudent since the person should not be working in a general public position.

I was treated worse than that, on a continual basis, in middle school. It caused some serious issues I eventually got over, but suing someone over a natural (to them) reaction, or a business for hiring them, seems a bit over the top to me.

Like I said, I just want to wait and see what McD's does with this. My money is on them settling.

what a shame that we look at life in such a way. if you have a illness better hope it is physical. if we can see what is wrong with you then we feel pity. if your problem is a mental illness we call names.

I went back and corrected this. I was admittedly wrong for calling the person a name. :blushing: :(

i did not call you out by name on purpose. i do not want to attack anyone but the feelings on this case bother me. my son currently suffers from Tourette's type tics. the dovtor says it may improve with age or he may develope verbal tics also. it scares the hell out of me that he may face the choice of getting sued or staying in the back ground the rest of his life for fear he may blurt out a word that offends someone.

when he is teased for his tics it hurts him and breaks my heart. when a 3 year old innocently ask why he is making faces he explains and feels no ill will towards the child. this cashier did not set out to hurt this man. i have lived 34 years in a city of a million people and can not remember ever meeting someone with this handicap. i am sorry this man was hurt but there was no intent to cause him harm.
