ITA...no one should be allowed into the school where the children are. Have them go to administration area that is not connected to these children.

The schools have to change there policy NOW. I cannot stop crying....Now they are saying 18 children dead.

I agree! I won't be a bit upset if they make it harder for me to get in to the school where my children are. As long as they are safe, put me through any process you need to!!

The doorbell system will probably be advanced, I am ok, with giving my finger prints each time I enter the school. Whatever keeps them safe.

Some of these children are likely children of military service members. Some of these children likely saw the shooter, dressed in his military outfit.

I cannot even begin to fathom the fear that this vision has instilled in these little babies. I cannot begin to imagine how they are now going to react at seeing their own parents dressed in their military garb.

The repercussions of this act are going to be broad and wide-ranging.

If the shooter is a parent, then his finger prints would let him into the school.

ABC News reports 1 shooter at Sandy Hook Elementary was a 24-year-old in a bulletproof vest with 4 guns

If the person is from New Jersey, perhaps the father may have divorced and this only speculative at this point. Why would he drive to Connecticut.

I think you are right. There should be separate buildings for administration and students. Adults should have to go through this area and this area only. Have a staff member of the front office go to the classroom and bring the child to the adult if the child needs to be taken out of school early. No one should have such easy access to a school full of children. I agree.

I'm not sure how you could stop an armed person in full military gear from going wherever they want to in a school. The really scary thing is that you can't protect everyone from everything, not even if you keep your loved ones in a fortress.

I think the Cheshire Home Invaders will be the last people executed in CT- I believe that we just revoked the death penalty.

I volunteer at my childrens school. I also run a program that gets other parents involved. We make copies, laminate, die cut etc for the teachers. We have our own office to work out of but we can walk the halls to deliver the completed work. Since I run the program I had to have a background check/FBI check fingerprinted etc. If any parent wants to work in the classroom as a helper they must do the same. Our schools are always on lockdown (even the room we work out of) but we get buzzed in and go thru the main office before getting into the school. All classroom doors are locked and closed at all times. Still, after this, I don't know what more then can do to protect schools without making these kids feel that they are in prison. This is awful.

Would someone be kind enough to post a map for those of us who aren't familiar with the location? Thanks.

Only a local map here but article states Sandy Hook is about 90 minutes north of NYC:

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2012/12/14/school-shooting-connecticut/1769367/

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- A lone gunman killed 27 people at an elementary school here, including 18 children, in a terrifying early Friday morning shooting spree.

The Associated Press and local media reported the shooter, an unidentified adult male, was also dead at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Two handguns were recovered at the scene. Mayor Mark Boughton said several victims had been taken to local hospitals.............

Sandy Hook is in a residential, wooded neighborhood about 90 minutes north of New York City. It has has 39 teachers and about 650 students. A reverse 911 call went out to parents warning of an incident. Parents were being reunited with children. But, NBC Connecticut reported, police were searching the area behind the school with guns drawn.............
