Newtown parents want police to stay at schools

By JOHN CHRISTOFFERSEN, AP

NEWTOWN, Conn. — Some parents in Newtown are calling for police to stay at town schools indefinitely, saying the sight of uniformed officers is a comfort to their children in a town reeling from last month's massacre inside an elementary school...

My younger kids have a uniformed officer at their schools, and it really brought them a sense of security.

I really hate the way my kids throw around the idea of a school shooter. It's not foreign to them like it feels to me. Knowing someone is there for them is comforting. I can see that all the more so for the students who lived it.

i'm not saying we have the budget or what not- just saying I can see why it would make the kids feel much better about being there.

A leave of absence is understandable. Can you imagine what those officers first on scene actually saw? I hope they are getting therapy ..... I wish them well.

Like he also said, in cause of autism (Asperger's) one wouldn't expect to find gross abnormalities in the brain anyway.

Didn't someone say that a tumor was found in Charles Whitman's brain?

Find a grave has a listing for NL, since it was added in the 14th of December 2012 its accuracy must be suspect.

Why is it suspect? I'm missing something here

The Findagrave listing was started by someone who lives in Oklahoma who seems to have a penchant for school shootings. You can see the other listings she has started. I don't find it 'suspect', a little peculiar perhaps, but hardly suspect. JMO.

December 14th was the day of the shooting. How can you know were someone is buried when their body is still in the custody of the medical examiner?

Thanks for the post MUSTANG. The Hochsprung's as a husband/wife team seemed like exceptional people, teachers...I hope he can find some peace...What a loss for the teaching community....

Here's a really cool excerpt:

Many have recalled the time Dawn Hochsprung came to the Sandy Hook school dressed as a fairy for a book fair. They said her husband had a similar dramatic approach to learning.

"George was one of the most creative people you ever were to meet," Pascarella said. "He knows his content, but connects with kids."

As George Hochsprung leaves his position and tries to fill the void in his life left by the Newtown shooting, Danbury schools will have their own void to fill.

"You just can't replace him," Pascarella said.

"Already, he said, an examination of what remained of Lanza's brain showed nothing unusual."

Read more: http://www.ctpost.com/local/article/M-E-Lanza-s-brain-appeared-normal-4183530.php#ixzz2HemD34Ia

Lanza apparently shot himself in the temple of his head, which would ruin some research capabilities to examine his brain

I'm wondering if this was intentional, since Junior Seau, ex NFL player, who was diagnosed with a brain abnormality, and many friends/family thought he shot himself in the chest/suiicide so researchers could examine his brain completely preserved

Just a thought, I heard this on ESPN radio

To me this means he was on medication, how else do you look for the absence of something on a toxicology screen?

Interesting point. I imagine he has a list of any prescribed meds.

Or he could be looking for meth or??????

They always screen for specific substances. They can be either present or absent.
