Not excusing anything but having been bullied by the principal's lovely daughter when I was in first grade was traumatic...and I never got over it. Granted I didn't go out and kill anyone but I still choke when anyone talks about what a lovely person she is. IMO being bullied lasts a life time, it effects ones self esteem. It did mine.

Please don't let that continue to affect you.

I mean this only in the kindest of terms, but if you can meet with someone to help you get over this, it will change your life for the better. This is too much of a burden to bear for your life.

Here is another article about the task force meeting that puts Mitch Bolinsky's comments in some context.

http://www.courant.com/news/education/hc-school-safety-hearing-0126-20130125,0,2389122.story

"The hearing was held by the school security subcommittee of the legislature's Bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Children's Safety and attracted a wide range of speakers, from educators to police officers, social workers, psychologists and others. The task force is charged with developing recommendations in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in Newtown, where a gunman, Adam Lanza, killed 20 first-graders and six educators before killing himself."

And

"Rep. Mitch Bolinsky, a Republican from Newtown, echoed the importance of finding a way to get the proper help when a child or youth is having a problem.

"Profiling is obviously a terrible word, but 25 or 30 years ago, we walked away … from the business of mental health care and drove it into the community and did not fund initiatives," Bolinsky said. He said this has led particularly to having "young men with violent tendencies that have manifested and are among us."

Bolinsky said he has had high school students identify students who concern them, but he said: "We don't have school counselors that focus directly on mental health. Instead we intervene by emergency only."

He asked how it is possible to identify students who may have problems, while protecting their privacy and avoiding "possible stigmatization."

"I don't think that Mr. Lanza was a secret," Bolinsky said. "There were many people that knew of him as a threat, and yet he was in a position to do the unspeakable."

University of Connecticut Police Chief Barbara O'Connor told Bolinsky that the universities have "struggled with that exact issue." She said UConn has a "threat assessment team" that considers a student's behaviors. "It's not profiling," she said, "What we need to do is focus on behaviors.""

And the article goes on.

It doesn't sound to me as though Bolinsky has any personal knowledge about Adam Lanza or his family. I am more inclined to believe he is just talking through his hat. He is a newly elected State Representive from Newtown who has been appointed to this task force and like any newly elected politician they want to be heard, want to be noticed. Otherwise he would be able to tell us who all these people are that knew of Adam as a threat. He can't.

Exactly. I was surprised to read that quote considering pretty much every other interview has said the opposite - that people expected AL to be a victim. Add to the fact that it seems like no one had seen him in almost 2 years...

Seacoast historian: Connecticut shooter born in Exeter

bilde1.jpg

The birth notice of Connecticut school shooting suspect Adam Lanza was published in the Exeter News-Letter

EXETER — On June 16, 1992, the Exeter News-Letter ran a collection of recent birth announcements. One of those entries announced the birth of a child who would grow up to become the man who gunned down a classroom full of young children at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn.

A black-and-white photo of the newborn Adam Peter Lanza, born April 22, 1992, and weighing in at precisely eight pounds, can be found on Page 26 of that particular issue.

“He looks like all the other babies,” said Barbara Rimkunas, the curator at the Exeter Historical Society, who found the birth announcement on Saturday and passed it along to the News-Letter and Seacoast Media Group.

Rimkunas said she was working on a separate project when, out of curiosity, she decided to see whether she could find any information about Lanza in historical society archives. She had heard the reports that he was originally from Kingston, and thought it was possible he was born at Exeter Hospital.

She first found in phone directories that his parents, Peter and Nancy Lanza, lived at 44 Depot Road in Kingston from 1988 to 1994. She then spent some time going through old issues of the News-Letter and it wasn't long before she found the Lanza birth announcement.

With all this talk of guns and knives, I am reminded of a comment made by Veronique Pozner, mother of Noah:

“If Adam [Lanza] had shown up at Sandy Hook with a knife or a less powerful weapon, he may have harmed some people but it would not have been the mass carnage we saw."

(Original article here

I know there is nothing we can do to change what did happen but what she says does ring true. Imagine if AL went in with a gun that didn't have a high capacity clip - we might not have 20 dead children and 6 dead teaching professionals. Overall this story is just tragic. I'm sure that Nancy Lanza never dreamed her son would be capable of such violence. I'm sure she probably still had memories when he was younger - the elementary school photos that show him smiling come to my mind - and for any parent it is very hard to think that your child could ever be capable of something so evil.

BBM.

I think that is an even bigger problem than guns, ease of access, high capacity magazines, and all the rest of it. As I type this, my almost 7 year old is having his day therapy...in an inpatient behavioral mental health center...where I sent him, out of abject terror that the threats he was making were real. Because I can see the signs of severe mental health problems. ANd I don't gloss over them. And I know that bringing a child into the world means two things. You raise them in such a way that they are protected from everyone that may want to hurt them...and they are also raised in such a way that everyone else can be protected, in case your child is the one with the propensity to do the hurting. Parents are usually the first, and sometimes the last and only ones that can spot the signs of severe illness. Unfortunately, nearly every single method that we use in the US to handle odd or abnormal behavior is strictly behavior based. We focus on using the same set of hackneyed techniques to change a child or young adults behavior, and when those don't work, we throw up our hands and turn to medication. We don't use true mental health based techniques. We don't teach coping skills to children as much as we teach them their numbers and ABC's, but we should. And we don't teach parents how to identify mental illness and how to address it the same way that we teach how to change diapers and burp a baby, but we should. And when it becomes part of our national curriculum, then, and only then, will the stigma start to fade and help be more readily available. And until that happens, parents are going to hide from the stigma and the unknown and pretend that their children are not sick, they are just different. It's time to face up to the fact that despite what we teach our kids day in and day out in the US, different isn't always good.

MOO, as the mother of a severely mentally ill child.

As always, IMHO!

As this case/situation began to open-up and information started flowing (some immediately accurate, some borderline accurate and some out of whole cloth), some individuals throughout questioned the skill set and ability of H. Wayne Carver, II, M.D. aka the "medical examiner"/"coroner" during and after his informational pressers. I've tried to present on WS facts as known AND AS permitted for general consumption, along with my opinions, comments & beliefs and want to add this video so folks can see the everyday man who just happens to be the Chief Medical Examiner of Connecticut.
I am biased (unashamedly so) regarding the incredible asset that this case (and SO MANY others in Ct.) has in this apolitical, no-nonsense, truth comes first, highly competent OCME leader & teacher!

Here is an interesting video about Adam Lanza. Sounds like he was not a totally silent person and wanted to be around people, unlike Seung-Hui Cho. I think his total isolation made his anger build up.

Adam Lanza's classmate remembers him as "the nice kid" - CBS News Video

Don't forget there were also reports of him going out and playing the Dance Dance Revolution games and being very good at them. I wonder if his isolation was self-imposed or if maybe NL thought it was in his best interest as he got older? I wonder why he didn't continue his college courses especially considering there are so many online options.

I don't think that quote is accurate. Not one person, as far as I know, came out and said they believed Adam Lanza was a threat.
He was described as weird and quiet, but as far as I can tell, nobody described him as violent.

Yes! As a retired teacher, we did use methods in our school. I wish every school in America would use the methods we used.

I know we can make a difference.

There are also methods they can use in high school. Instead of jumping bad on kid for bad behavior, the principal calls in the student and asks the student what is happening. I do not recall the method, but we can make a difference instead of being punitive.

We used things such as floor mats that had texture on them. Balls to squeeze.

I think we are just in the beginning of things to do

HOOD Thanks for the post -- I still think Lanza was a spoiled rotten brat who probably thought he was way too good to work part time at a restaurant or a tech center like Staples or Micro Center to earn money, get out on his own some

...Yeah and that God Awful pent up pressure, anger because his mom was pushing him to get off his butt and turn off the ridiculous video games that turrned his brain into vegtable salad...Sheesh!

The cortisol thing is very strange. As a teacher, we learned about the impact of cortisol on children because of stress. We had to learn about mental health in order to renew our license. I imagine because there are no trained professionals in our schools do to lack of funds, the teacher was expected to take on the role of a trained mental health professional.

But that still is not enough. Now some people think we should be armed with guns too during our teaching day where we better meet those test scores or our school will go down the tubes.

Cortisol is also a major contributing enzyme that creates alot of weight gain in people...cortisol grows, multiplies mostly from stress....people with "beer guts" that's a sign of cortisol build up

I realize the state rep (R-Newtown) said it, but I don't think that is accurate.
Who are those "many people?" I haven't read one quote where someone said they believed Lanza was a threat.

There is this photo (in many many places on the net now, but i don't want to post source link to any of them, cuz don't think those places are allowed here, as they are surely not MSM .. so moderators, if you have to, feel free to delete it) ...

HERE it is: (Click on Spoiler below to view)

Adam_Lanza_Father_600.jpg
The photo (can be viewed in larger size HERE or in it's original size HERE) is of Peter Lanza with his son (many conspiracy sites claim it to be Peter Lanza with his son Adam Lanza ... but other people say it's a picture of Peter Lanza with his son Ryan Lanza (and i agree with them .. looks more like Ryan to me, couple years ago possibly))

Those at conspiracy sites .. also claim it to be fake, photoshopped etc .. but others say it's REAL ... and Photo-analysis site says it's REAL also:

Even though some people say the pic was, more likely taken during some travels or holidays ... others are 100% sure it was taken on SNL's set .... cuz HERE it is: (and it's the same, basically)

Father of Newtown victim heckled at hearing

Ken Dixon

Updated 8:58 pm, Monday, January 28, 2013

628x471.jpg

Neil Heslin, of Shelton, holds a portrait of himself and his son, Jesse Lewis, one of the children killed in the Sandy Hook School shooting, during testimony before the Gun Violence Prevention Working Group at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford on Monday, January 28, 2012. Photo: Brian A. Pounds

HARTFORD -- Some came dressed in camouflage and others in suits.

Some wore National Rifle Association hats, casual clothing or bright power ties and sat next to each other, but on starkly different sides of the raging national argument on gun control.

Both groups, totaling about 1,500 people, were frisked upon entering the Capitol complex Monday, then applauded their supporters during historic, day-long hearings on the aftermath of the Newtown massacre.

...

Bill Stevens, of Newtown, who has a daughter in town schools, promised that in the case of a home invasion, he would be calling 911 after first shooting the people threatening his family.

He paraphrased a famous gun-rights quotation: "I will tell you here today, you will take my ability to protect my Victoria from my cold, dead hands," Stevens said to the applause of supporters at about 5:30 p.m.

By 7 p.m. about 615 names had been called, although some left the Capitol without testifying.

...

The sometimes boisterous public hearing -- after nearly four hours of testimony from State Police, parents of slain Newtown first-graders and city mayors -- seemed dominated by gun owners, who railed at more than 90 proposed bills.

"The Second Amendment!" was shouted a couple of times by as many as a dozen gun enthusiasts in the meeting room as Neil Heslin, holding a photo of his slain 6-year-old son, Jesse Lewis, asked why Bushmaster assault-style weapons are allowed to be sold in the state.

"There are a lot of things that should be changed to prevent what happened," said Heslin, who said he grew up using guns and was undisturbed by the interruption of his testimony.

"That wasn't just a killing, it was a massacre," said Heslin....
