Waking up this morning hoping this was all a bad dream. Watching Cnn and waiting for the presser. Vicki Soto was the cousin of the friend of my granddaughter. Feeling like I felt on 911. Sad

Man on CNN saying no names will be released until everyone has been identified. Bodies are still in building. Trying to methodically figure out what happened to each individual child.

I watched on-going news coverage last night but shut down the computer when DH got home. I didn't sleep well and kept waking up thinking about the terrible tragedy in Newtown, CT. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims. I have a busy day ahead helping a family member move, so I won't be here. Thanks for the continued posts in the overnight hours. :rose:

Adam was pure evil, forget mental illness. Most people with mental illness, would never do something like this...the parents could not have known that he would do something like this!

I am shock that it has been allowed to blame one of the victim's (mom)for what has happened and owning the weapons! I thought WS was victim friendly!

We are all saddened by what happened, I have 9 grandchildren (one in kindergarden)! This scares me too, but this is Adam and only Adam who is responsible!

No, He did not.

I am posting from Bethel,CT the town next door. :-(

Father is alive is in Stamford. all their hefty alimoney details are published in today's local papers. ( Danbury News Times)
Apparently-Mother was a substitute teacher at the school- who was not scheduled to be there that day. (?) All 3 guns were bought and registered by her. ( I would like to know more about the hows and whys of that ):furious:

Many reports that the shooter- was very bright and had "cognitive differences"
(My word choice)...reports have said " socially awkward" i have heard and read have gone so far as to say.."savant"
Local mom who knew the family from younger days was just quoted on the news ( CT ch 8 tv) mother was " over bearing" everything in the home on playdates had to be " Just so"

I am shaking my head- wringing my hands.
As a long time teacher, certified in CT ( in several subjects)( yet......I won't go into my woes working in this state) I could go off on a diatribe about our children, our schools and teachers, our administrators. I would go on about how we are not doing enough here to teach right and wrong. To admit we are failing.

I 've been a member of WS for a little while, caring and writing and participating on some boards here, lurking on others there.

" these are our children" our students....our neighbors, killing babies, stealing them off their bikes in broad day light, out of their beds, gunning them down in their schools.

If we see something- Say something!
Please write your local representatives...ask for new laws. beg them to actually enforce and practice school AND community safety. Ask them to help found more programs for our disenfranchised youth..ask for more appropriate career and psychological support systems everywhere.

sorry and thank you for listening to my blahblahblah

Yes, yesterday I did not do one thing that was planned as I could not leave the news and WS. Today I must leave for a while also. Having a hard time trying to pull myself away from here.
Many, many prayers will be needed as those names are released today for the families of the little ones that were taken from them so cruelly.

Most recent New York Times article:

Nation Reels After Gunman Massacres 20 Children at School in Connecticut

It says the Nancy Lanza worked at the school and the principal buzzed him in because she recognized him as Mrs. Lanza's son.

Does that make sense, given what we know of the way the principal died? She was in a meeting with a parent, the vp and the school psychologist - they heard gunfire, the three school employees ran out of the meeting room and only the VP came back.

So just logistically I'm wondering how she could have buzzed the killer in, but was involved in a meeting when the first gunshots were heard.

Also, going by my own children's schools, the front office staff are usually in charge of buzz-ins as part of their job.

Lt. Paul Vance of CT State Police interview live on wtnh.com right now

- bodies have been ID'd

- no time frame for completion of work in- and outside of the building

- all vehicles in parking lot have to be searched, documented

- "We're going to peel this onion one layer at a time" re: finding the 'why' of the shooting

- Names of all victims will be released today

That's over. Still awaiting presser.

Sorry if someone else has already pointed this out:

I wonder if Adam killed his mother so she wouldn't have to live with the shame of what he did, considering all the guns were in her name?

I mean, can you imagine if she had not been killed? The hate that would be coming her way from that community, much like what the Columbine killers parents went through.

Agreeing with you. I have lived in CT for over 50 years. All my kids went to school here and now my grand children. I can not believe what is allowed to happen in these schools. The stories I hear are baffling. Seems like the teachers do not have much control over these kids and they run the schools.
No offense intended in my post but these are my opinions based on things I have heard in the past and now present.

It depends on where the camera is and the buzzer, could have been one in the principals office while they were in meeting. jmo

I had to leave here yesterday and take a break from this horrible tragic event. As I tried to sleep I was trying to think of a reason why, how could he do this.
Then I thought of when my daughter was looking to buy a house from a kindergarten teacher. She had a room filled with the children drawings. She had a shelf with pictures, notes and cards and thank you notes from the children. Some of the pictures were on a class trip to the zoo. I wonder if NL had such a room and he was jealous.

Even the state newspaper, the Courant (link above), isn't sure what the connection was:
Police have given no indication of what Lanza's motive may have been and it is not clear what his connection was to the elementary school. There have been reports that Nancy Lanza worked at the school, but that has not been confirmed.

Couldn't gun control be something as simple as a lock and key ???

CNN reporting on father of AL.
They are making efforts to get in touch with father and have been unsuccessful.
Press conference running about an hour late.

I suppose that part of the terror and the shock as that in each one of these terrorist attacks- including Domestic Attacks by pardon me for saying this...( american white youth!!)( jonesboro, columbine, littleton, oregon, the theater shooter in colo- and now...next door in SandyHook CT) is the next ...newest idea. ( no people won't probably fly planes into a building in NYC again- thankfully) We prepare for the last attack - yet the next one is construing next way to .. :-(

To my understanding, in some ways they followed the lockdown procedures and in some ways I am sorry for saying this JMO ...in some way I do not personally think that they did. Perhaps they did not have time to act on the procedures.

I just heard them say he shot the glass panel at the entrance.

:-(
I heard a little girl quoted say they heard- " go to your cubbies" this must have been the code word. How he got to that class room...and those victims I can't imagine atthe moment. If the teachers and everyone followed our CT lockdown training.

We are supposed to lock ourselves in- open for noone- even if we know them...unlocked only by LE>

I know. I was in a training...and the drill was with me lock down with the Middle school principal..we both waved at the PO at the door. Later-- he told us both point blank infront of every one...we would be dead.
that we should not ever have been in view of window - or door- nor able to wave- and insisted...neverrrr open the door.....never with in view. This aspect of the case has been haunting and chilling for me. In that training , police showed us a dramatic training video..that was eerily similar to that scenario. literally showing...you look out window and see a gunman ( "family dispute ").
:::shudder:::

I did hear reports teachers did exactly what we are supposed to do. thank god and bless them. They saved many lives.

All this is JMO
