Morgan Freeman's thoughts ~~~
““You want to know why {these shootings keep happening}. This may sound cynical, but here’s why. It’s because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single victim of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he’ll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody.

“CNN’s article says that if the body count “holds up”, this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer’s face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer’s identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don’t sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.

You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."

THis happens in all tragic events...the media seems to honour the perp, his name in big bold letters, across every national newspaper. I say we should be honouring and remembering all the victims...the innocent people who were gunned down.

The father did release a statement late this afternoon expressing his remorse. I haven't heard about the son, though.

Yes, he did but he did not mention his x wife. Primarily directed to the victims at the school. Which I understand, but good grief I think he should have mentioned his wife and actually his son. Son was the perp,,but still his flesh and blood. Should be sad for that I think. jmo

This article provides new information on what happened inside. Not sure how accurate it is but I tend to always think the local newspapers are more accurate than the MSM. They have more contacts and trusted connections. I'm biased though, since I started my career as a small town newspaper reporter.

Warning: The description is unsettling.

Hmm.

The article indicates that he went first to the classrooms instead of to the office as has been widely reported.

Also, it says two people he shot survived. I am aware of the one school staffer, but who was the other? This is the first I've heard of this.

I wonder just how many disabilities Adam had? I have heard of people with Asperger not relating to other people, but I have never heard of them not being able to feel physical pain. The security guy having to stay by his side all the time to ensure he didn't burn himself because he wouldn't feel it is just bizarre.

One thing I do not understand is why Nl's husband or son have not expressed any remorse for what happened to her. That is his x wife and is RL's mother. Am I the only one that thinks that is strange. If this is off limits just delete my post. But I think there should be some sadness for the loss of a mother. jmo

7:50 p.m.: The father of 20-year-old [AL] issued a statement Saturday, according to the AP: ”Our hearts go out to the families and friends who lost loved ones and to all those who were injured. Our family is grieving along with all those who have been affected by this enormous tragedy. No words can truly express how heartbroken we are. We are in a state of disbelief and trying to find whatever answers we can. We too are asking why. We have cooperated fully with law enforcement and will continue to do so. Like so many of you, we are saddened, but struggling to make sense of what has transpired.”

What worries is that the next killer is watching and noticing all the attention he will get dead or alive. And this is why I think mass shootings have increased, all of the media attention the killer gets. These incidents will increase for that very reason, mark my words. :(

I caught that too Izzy - about the two wounded. IDK what to make of that - the victims are all known now - so maybe a proof-reading mistake is all I can think of.

JMO but perhaps some people don't feel compelled to share their most horrific internal private pain in the media. I know I wouldn't.

The shop teacher having to stay by his side all the time to ensure he didn't burn himself because he wouldn't feel it is just bizarre.

A young boy that I worked with in the past had aspergers. I had to check his pockets before entering the classroom as he enjoyed hurting himself. He would find a pin or staple and stab himself multiple times with it, he would bring lighters to school and burn himself with it, he would use a fork to stab his leg multiple times.

Not every child with aspergers (that I have worked with) has been self mutilating like this, everyone of them were alike in some ways and very different in other ways.

Thank you, but I have read that numerous times and again I say no mention of his wife of 17 years or his son. I just don't think that is right. They both are dead and I would think he would feel some kind of remorse or sadness. JMO

Also says the principal and school psychologist were shot with a rifle.

I wonder if RL had anything to do with his mother, because he said he hadn't seen his brother since 2010.

That article linked above said a source relayed that he played graphic and violent video games.

Which is driving me totally insane for a few reasons. I already provided numerous links earlier about false arguments blaming video games & violence.

The thorn in my side for this particular article and others is the only thing I've read in several pieces is "it has been said that he played"... WHO said???

Until (IF) they can identify the person who observed it first hand and can provide an indisputable link between his actions & video games I'm chalking this up to another fantasy rumor that remarkably resembles a pitchfork looking for something to blame (video games).

Also says the principal and school psychologist were shot with a rifle.
The ME said today that all the victims were killed with the long gun (the Bushmaster).

BBM This hurts because it is so true and I am guilty of this. I can not name one victim of the Columbine shooting. The names of the murderers (won't say their names) have been ingrained into my brain. I would recognize them right away.

I also agree with this whole post and I personally am going to work harder to remember the victims of these crimes and not give the killers the attention they so crave.

IMO by his actions - he exhibited that he knew right from wrong, regardless of any "condition" that he suffered from. He wore a bulletproof vest - he didn't want to be shot or killed - yet he might had suffered from a condition where he actually felt no pain. IMO whatever his reason was - he had one. He knew what he was going to do and he did it - horrific as it was. He knew what he had done was wrong - he killed himself. This was a selfish, cowardly act - but done by someone that knew right from wrong.

JMHO

AL was not sane, did not have normal processing, couldn't even walk down the hallway of his school without having to hug the lockers as he moved. To not think there may have been a final a "break" or split in his mind, or to not think he may have tried to emulate the video games he immersed himself in is to think in too simplistic terms, imho. I'm not saying that I feel compassion for him but I doubt his life was one that any of us here would want to lead. He was a very ill young man and had been for a very long time.

Who's to say he DOESN'T feel incredibly deep and painful remorse and sadness?? I don't think he OWES it to anyone to express this. He certainly has beautifully and tastefully expressed his feelings about the victims of this event. I have no need to insist he reveal his deepest feelings about his exwife and troubled son with a camera shoved in his face. He is a victim also and I personally feel he has already expressed plenty enough. JMO

It seems to me the mother was just kind of deserted as far as taking care of the younger brother. Seems they all just went away and said okay mom you deal with it. I don't know that for sure just an observation. jmo

Also says the principal and school psychologist were shot with a rifle.

Which is also what LE said today in the presser. To wit: All of the injuries were inflicted with the long gun. Despite earlier media reports to the contrary.
