President Obama with the family of victim Emilie Parker.

It's nice to see Emilie Parker's family smiling... even if it lasted only a brief moment, as you know it did. Thank you, President Obama, for giving them that brief moment.

Now they have to bury this precious angel. There is nothing in the world like seeing a small child's casket. The fact that the casket will belong to their baby, Emilie, is going to bring on another wave of grief. I am forever going to remember Robbie Parker's press conference and I will never forget his little girl, Emilie Alice Parker or the other 25 victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School.

On Fox right now, a panel discussing ASD by parents and experts....

FYI, maybe some good will come of this...more people will be interested to hearing about the ASD, and some will be more educated.

Whether AL had Asperger's, or Asperger's plus other issues, or misdiagnosed and doesn't even have Asperger's, etc......the discussion = education can maybe do some good.

There is another one of these pictures also out there. The little girl in the pink dress has her arms wrapped around POTUS leg. So cute, wait till she gets about 15 and realize that pix is out there. LOL Such innocence.

I personally agree with this statement - VERY much! -
"In the wake of another horrific national tragedy, it’s easy to talk about guns. But it’s time to talk about mental illness."

For those of you who believe violent videos games and movies are the reason for gun violence, how do you explain other countries which have a much lower rate of gun violence, yet watch the same violent movies, play violent video games too?

Are these countries with stricter gun control? I'm not sure what statistics you are referring to, but that was the first thought off the top of my head. IMO, it seems that in America, guns are seen as a readily acceptable (and available) way to settle one's problems and/or disagreements, i.e., the Michael Dunn case currently in the news. JMO and all that.

Emilie's parents are putting on such a brave face for their littlest girls. I know at night, after they lay these two little ones down to sleep, they just cry and cry and cry. It has got to be so hard for them to be strong for these two little ones while grieving for their first born baby. I admire them deeply. I admire them fully. My heart just breaks for them.

Reminds me of Dylan Klebold. The long face and something about the eyes.

In the later photo.. he has "Sanpaku eyes".. sometimes its just a particular camera shot that causes it.. such as head tilted down while looking up toward the camera.. however he seems to be gazing straight on to the camera and he has them

So basically, this woman who has a difficult child is planning to publicly announce how her kid could be a future mass murderer and that she is afraid of him... How does this make her kid feel??? This woman putting this boys private struggle with control up for public viewing, switching him from drug to drug, and now going on TV for this? Does anyone even think of what this would mean to her son? Her young son?

Uh....Clearly this killer wasn't just autistic. Adults were afraid of him the results of his behavior and he was tiny.

^^ This is a good example about what I love about this thread... the discussion about mental health. Having verified posters who possess a wealth of knowledge about the subject make it even better. I am also digging the personal stories that ya'll add in.

He went through quite a physical transformation after adolescence, just comparing his junior high photos to those from later years. One look and you can clearly see something isn't right. Was his mother in denial about how disturbed he really was? I can't get past how ridiculous it was to have all those weapons within his reach. At the very least, I wound think she would have been concerned he would use them on himself, if he was burning and hurting himself in recent days.
It makes me angry that so many innocents had to suffer because this so called responsible gun owner failed to keep her arsenal out of the wrong hands!

I hope for everyone's sake she doesn't have a cache of weapons laying around.

I wonder if this was the trigger, did he want Independence or did he think his mom was trying to push him out into the world.

she had spent months going over his options for engineering schools, Hanoman said.

“They had recently gone to many different colleges looking for the right program for Adam, and the right living situation,” he said.

“He wanted to study engineering. Nancy was going to move wherever he was going to go. Not to live with him but to live near him.

“They were looking at schools in Seattle and one of the Carolinas. “It was his goal to be independent.”

FAIRFIELD, CT - DECEMBER 17: People walk past a small memorial outside the funeral services of six year-old Noah Pozner, who was killed in the shooting massacre in Newtown, CT, at Abraham L. Green and Son Funeral Home on December 17, 2012 in Fairfield, Connecticut. Today is the first day of funerals for some of the twenty children and seven adults who were killed by 20-year-old Adam Lanza on December 14, 2012. Almost as soon as we learn the name of a twisted killer we start to wonder about the women who knew and loved him, his girlfriend, his wife, or more often his mother...

Some funeral homes will go ahead and do it, with a person signing agreeing to pay all cost if payor (insurance company normally) fails to pay.

We did that here at work, had an employee die and while waiting on life insurance policy to pay, boss basically signed saying he would pay expenses if policy didn't pay out. We knew it would cause the policy was through work.
