Ex-babysitter says Newtown, Conn. school shooter Adam Lanza's mother warned: Don't turn your back
A man who says he once babysat for Newtown, Conn., gunman Adam Lanza says he recalls Lanza's mother warning him never to turn his back on the boy - not even to go to the bathroom.

Ryan Kraft now lives in Hermosa Beach, in Southern California.

But, he tells CBS station KCBS in Los Angeles, he was once a student at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn., and babysat for Lanza when Lanza was about 9 or 10 and Kraft was 14 or 15.

I'm sorry to say this but ...

What kind of mother/parent of a 9-10 yo boy who one can "never" "turn [one's] back on ... - not even to go to the bathroom" leaves him with a 14-15 yo boy as a babysitter???

This town has had enough. People need to stop !

Keep in mind there are going to be alot of false sightings as people are on edge. People will be hyper vigilant, and may see things that are really not there. This is because everyone is so scared right now.

It happens with every tragedy, there are multiple sightings afterwards of armed people, but they all turn out false. Its because we are all so afraid that this is going to happen again.

Guarding both crime scenes
Funerals today.
Each family have a liaison
Families have asked to afford them their privacy
Moving furniture to another school
2 threatening calls against church.
Making sure no stone left unturned
Significant evidence at residence be investigated
Will not discuss evidence
2 people wounded in lower extremities who are survivors
Will not identify witnesses
They have computer crime team which are experts of extracting evidence
Ridgefield schools cleared
Doing everything it takes to recover all evidence to paint a clear picture
Anything new will be posted on websites
Piecing together crime will take a significant amount of time...slow process
Will keep public informed

:gthanks:
for that recap!
BBM...
This is wonderful!
Has this been done in the past or is it
something relatively new?

I don't remember hearing this before.
It could just be that I have missed early press conferences
after incidents like this.

Conditions comorbid to autism spectrum disorders - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lots of comorbidities associated with autism spectrum disorders. But as always you can have any one of these and not have autism and vice versa. As a mother of a child on the spectrum, who is overly intelligent, yet socially awkward, the medias misinformation angers me. Imagine reading these supposed evils of autism, and having your five year old ask you to write him a note saying, "please, play with me." To show the kids in his class. He wants to have friends just misses the connection to make it happen. And even in kindergarten a socially awkward child is starting a world of pain and misunderstanding by both peers and adults..

Is this accurate? Asking because at 16 aren't they still in high school?

I trust that tidbit because it's not from family and friends going from memory, the source is the college spokesman who has checked his records.

I was thinking this morning they should not do any more pressers unless it is something absolutley a must.
Let these families grieve. I couldnot imagine putting my baby in the ground ever, but a week before Christmas. What a awful holiday for them.
God Bless them!

Loving Lt. Vance and how he's handling the media.
Difficult job, but I think he's doing a great job trying to be respectful to the situation and the families and community, but trying to keep "us" (outsiders looking in) as updated as possible, without talking about evidence, etc. during the ongoing investigation.

they will be moving sandy hook students to chalk hill and they want the media to mind their manners as they want the children to feel safe

won't give specifics on locks, etc

will not confirm school starts tomorrow... (says media put out a date that he says did not come from him)

This is the first case I have heard and I think it was a wonderful idea.

In other words media, leave them alone!

That's why i think the quote is being misinterpreted or taken out of context. Maybe she was impressing upon the sitter that even though he was 9 or 10 he could not be unsupervised as most 9-10 year olds might and that he needed to keep an eye on him at all times.

There are no early reports of AL being violent or dangerous and from what we know about mom- she would have taken care in his supervision.

Asperger's did not cause AL to do this. Yes, there are people who have Asperger's that can be bad people just as there are people who don't have Asperger's that are bad. My child, who is an Aspie, has a hard enough time fitting in socially that I am really terrified for him now since it has been said that AL may have had AS.

Autism Speaks and GRASP have both spoken out on this matter.

http://www.autismspeaks.org/news/news-item/statement-newtown-connecticut
http://grasp.org/profiles/blogs/sta...n-the-newtown-ct-shootings?xg_source=activity

Here is also an article that may better explain what and how an Aspie may behave.
http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/art...erger-s-unlikely-to-break-the-law-experts-say

My son is just like any other "normal" child except he has some problems interacting socially because he doesn't quite grasp social cues. He is also a sweetheart, polite, extremely intelligent, and very well spoken.

The thanks button was not enough. I'm getting very frustrated at this atrocity being blamed on autism/Asperger's. It has never been my experience that violence was part of puzzle. Every child I've met with autism always seemed very sweet and docile.

IMO, if it is confirmed that AL had Asperger's, it is not autism that made him violent, it is another factor in his makeup. JMO and all that.

I can only cite a statement given by Ryan Lanza to LE (picked up by the media) stating his brother also suffered from a personality disorder. Exactly which disorder that is? We may never know.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/14/adam-lanza-school-shooter-suspect_n_2304708.html

If AL only suffered from Asperger's syndrome, this would be the first time in history an ASD sufferer conducted an a pre-planned massacre. Not impossible but also not likely.

I have two schools of thought: either he was misdiagnosed as ASD or he suffered another disorder along with ASD.

One of the psychiatrists that testified in Breivik's trial said that he may have Asperger's syndrome, along with a number of other conditions.
But there were conflicting psychiatric evaluations about him so I'm not really sure what his real diagnosis is/are.
