I agree--I think this is going to end up to be less about mental health and more about evil left unchecked.

I agree michmi - at least from what little we know thus far, I think we're looking at a deadly combination of both, untreated mental illness and psychopathy unchecked. JMO ~

DANIEL BARDEN, 7

Daniel's family says he was "fearless in the pursuit of happiness in life."

He was the youngest of three children and in a statement to the media, his family said Daniel earned his missing two front teeth and ripped jeans.

"Words really cannot express what a special boy Daniel was. Such a light. Always smiling, unfailingly polite, incredibly affectionate, fair and so thoughtful towards others, imaginative in play, both intelligent and articulate in conversation: in all, a constant source of laughter and joy," the family said.

Interesting that the date of production of the Glock was just January of this year. So either AL or NL had just recently acquired it.

They were are the gun range six months ago - that would be late spring - early summer. Wonder if they went because the new Glock had just been bought and they wanted to fire it.

JMHO

sorry WOO, I'll go back in and edit the list to be more specific, as the DOP was Date Of Purchase..so, yes on the Glock, it was purchased by Nancy in January of this year..

HTH and sorry for any confusion..

...I so agree, and he hid his anger from his mother so that she would continue to let him have access to guns, for all we know the gun collecting was his influence on HER and she joined in with HIM so that she felt like there was one area in life where she felt a connection with him. I think he conned her DELIBERATELY on this issue.

This just seems far fetched to me. Seems she enjoyed shooting guns and collecting them and the added purpose of the survivalism thing. I do not think Adam talked her into all that. One of her friends said she was teaching him to shoot to teach him respect or something of that sort. When it comes down to it, those guns should have been inaccessible to anyone except the buyer - that's how I feel about any gun ownership.

We're all seeking some clarity WHY this brutal shooting took place and Rejections seems to be a common thread

I've been wondering and talking to friends at work, we seem to think he was recently rejected by college engineering programs, was rejected somewhat by his Dad, brother, his peers all thru his life thought of him as weird, he may have rejected himself for having a "learning disability" and not being able to communicate his massively suppressed life to anyone

Adam probably heard people compliment him over the years as a "genius or brilliant" and maybe he had a big head/ego about this.

Then expectations of a new beginning in a field he obviously spent alot of time deciding upon comes filled with letters of rejection.
Pinning his hopes for a better future brings some heartbreak, depression maybe. I've seen many "brilliant" people have a hard time accepting failures or rejections

Nancy, as recently as a few months ago, was getting exhausted and nerves were getting frayed by Adam's issues, handling her son

During this time Adam continues going to the shooting range, he has no job, no schooling obligations, only video games, his computer, cameras and the access to shoot his Mom's guns at the range

What was the route from NL's home to the school. Was it a straight shot or did he have to make turns etc. to get there? Was it the first area he encountered where he could do this mass tragedy? tia

Thanks so much to laura08, WOO, and jennapuppy for clearing up the substitute teacher issue for me.. I now recall maybe this young woman's mother saying it had been "the best year of her life"..if I'm thinking of the correct one, Rousseau I believe was her name...is this correct?

again thanks for clearing that up.. I really and truly at this point am firmly believing there was absolutely no tie or connection of the shooter to the school..which makes an impossible to understand tragedy, just all the more nonsensical.. of course I am prepared for the great likelihood that no matter what we ever learn, if in fact we are ever to learn, of his motivation or cause for targeting this elementary school...that it just will never make any sense to our logical minds due to the fact this individual was likely the farthest from being of a logical mindset imaginable..

I just have to come to terms with the fact that my mind needing desperately to find the logic somewhere in these type unexplainable tragedies..that it just will never be found due to it not being there(ie. logic, that is)

That is correct. I don't believe there was a connection also. So senseless and sad.

Reporting On local news, some crazy man threatening to kill kids. Said they would have put schools on lock down if they didn't find him, but were able to locate him.
This man looks crazy. News4jax is what is airing this. Not sure if its online yet.

Thankx for the clarification. Either way - seems the acquisition of the main weapons was all in the past 2 - 3 years. Yet, we keep hearing what an avid gun collector she was. When I think of a collector I usually think that means "over the years" or "through the years" - meaning at least the past 5 years.

It defies logic that there is documented reports that AL had been "spiraling" for the past 2 - 3 years and that during that time these weapons were being purchased.

I just don't know what to think......................but I do think when we get the "final account" it is going to be pretty much along the lines we've all been thinking.

Not surprised by recent disclosure that Nancy L was looking to place AL in a place that could care for his mental health issues.

"College" was code for "facility"
Thought all along, that "looking for colleges" was code for "group home or facility". Just didn't make any sense, to remove him from familiar surroundings, just to go to college. Lots of college options right there. Had to be a more important driver that 'college'. Additionally, there was joint custody, and she and Peter L would prob have to stipulate to the court, that it was agreed, & Nancy could remove him from state. Lot's of headache when he was previously enrolled in a college locally, and did just fine. It wasn't about college, that's for sure. So sad for her, that she may have realized too late, that AL was deteriorating beyond what she could do for him.

AL could easily track Nancy's cell phone calls & computer usage
I'm guessing that Nancy L, was too trusting of AL. She didn't think that he would check her cell phone to see who she had been calling. Ha! He was smart and had lots of time on his hands. And I dare say, prob a little paranoid. He would have had the ability to download everything on her personal computer (letters, emails, forms) to a flash drive, in a New York minute. And he would have known her plans to institutionalize him.

When did AL start planning this?
My guess is, if they can establish the date of Nancy L's first online or phone communication, to one of these facilities - that may well be when AL began planning revenge and retaliation. When he discovered her plan, he began to formulate one of his own.

And of those precious children? Like a viscous, spiteful person, AL may have been smart enough to see what people value most in that community. If he had to "go away", then he would take their children with him. He might as well have uttered the words, "There, now, how do you like your decision to send me away!"

Thanks for posting this. All of these kids were adorable, but Daniel's mischievous smile with its missing teeth is especially cute. He just looks like fun.

How could you look into that face and then pull the trigger?

Classmate remembers Adam Lanza attending Sandy Hook

4:45 PM, Dec 18, 2012

NEWTOWN, Conn. -- The gunman in the mass murder at an elementary school here last week apparently attended the school in 2002.

Despite denials from relatives who said Adam Lanza never attended Sandy Hook Elementary School, Lanza apparently attended the school in fifth grade in fall 2002.

...

The signatures of Lanza and his fifth-grade classmates are on a Sandy Hook Elementary T-shirt made by the school and given to each student. Lanza and other fifth graders attended the school in fall 2002 before moving in January 2003 to a newly built Reed Intermediate School for fifth- and sixth-graders.

The Sandy Hook School T-shirt says "2003," but Lanza and his classmates actually left Sandy Hook at the end of 2002.

Lanza was home-schooled for some of his early years.

Fifth-grade classmate Dan Lynch, now a junior at the University of Connecticut, remembers Lanza at Sandy Hook school.

"I was in class with him in fifth grade, and he was extremely introverted," Lynch says. "He was really skittish, always anxious and nervous."

Lynch says he remembers watching a sex-education movie, and Lanza saying he was about to throw up and needed to leave the room.

I wonder when mom's predilection toward being a prepper started?

Although, somewhere someone said this might be 'the perfect storm' and it seems to me that is a theme connected to many of these tragedies. I'm also curious if dad finding another woman and getting married had any effect as that also happened about 2-3 years ago?

I get what you are saying, I just wonder how much of it is actually their choice. Some parents are choosing to grieve publicly, but I feel like at this point none are given the choice to do it privately and that's unfortunate.

Trust me, the parents are not even truly aware of their surroundings at this time, they are in a fog. Been there!

I think the Lanza family is waiting for all other funerals to have been done. IMO
