Take this for what you will but I was watching CNN about a half hour ago and the reporter said Nancy Lanza was buried today in NH in a private ceremony with family.

New York Post has the story
http://www.nypost.com/p/news/local/adam_lanza_mother_burried_in_new_Wub9qD1WxR1DkKPM2Y90YO

Not sure if it was mentioned already (i wasn't here) .. but not long ago, they said on CNN that Nancy Lanza, mother of the shooter, had been laid to rest now .. in the undisclosed location somewhere in NH.

They did well about keeping that a secret!

They did indeed. Her family needs to grieve also but they would not get the support as the 26 killed from the school. Wondering if PL will claim his sons body.

I have to agree with leaving the lights on. The other little ones that live there need the lights and cheer. I'm certain the parents of those lost have no cheer, but the lights may keep the little ones around happy and entertained. We used to love getting to drive around and see the lights, and getting to lay our heads under the tree to see up the tree, a new angle on the lights.

If anything, leave them on all night Christmas Eve for the lost ones.

DH and I don't do holiday lights, but I plan to light votives in bakery bags on the front porch to honor the Shady Hook victims.

There is a news article I posted up stream that both bodies were claimed by same funeral home but would not say which one. I'll try to find again.

I was thinking the same as leaving them on and let them shine for-ever also.

I was thinking of adding another string in their honor. jmo

How very nice! Happy to hear it.

I'm so afraid "lights out" in a little ones mind is not good, especially with the t.v. and movie meanings of it. It would just compound the situation for them.

H. Wayne Carver II, Connecticut’s chief medical examiner, said Nancy Lanza’s body, and her son’s, were not claimed until Tuesday, four days after the killings. He said the funeral home that claimed them asked not to be identified and planned to transport them “discreetly.”

Last paragraph of the article.

NY cardinal compares slain Conn. teacher to Jesus

In New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan told mourners at the funeral of 52-year-old Anne Marie Murphy that the teacher "brought together a community, a nation, a world, now awed by her own life and death."

Murphy's father, Hugh McGowan, said authorities told him that she died trying to protect her young pupils. Her body was found covering a group of children's bodies as if to shield them, McGowan said.

Dolan underscored her sacrifice.

"Like Jesus, Annie laid down her life for her friends," Dolan said. "Like Jesus, Annie's life and death brings light, truth, goodness and love to a world often shrouded in darkness, evil, selfishness and death."

...

Janelle Wingert, of Wyoming, said in an email interview that she met Murphy when they were involved in the same faith-based community service activities in the Newtown area. She said Murphy asked her after 9/11 what she would do if someone attacked a school where she was working.

"She was serious and so intense in the question," Wingert said in a Facebook post. "She died doing exactly what she said she would do — put herself between the gunman and her little ones, who she saw as the most precious of all in God's heart."

"From my experience where you have the parent killed first, it's a fundamentally different circumstance," he told CBS News, "because the motivation for the homicide in large part arises from the relationship with the parent as opposed to anything else."

At the following link, you will see Kip Kinkel's reasons for killing his parents. Please note that it may be too soon for some to read, so be careful!

Why would they turn OFF the holiday lights? Who needs more darkness in a time of such dispair? That makes no sense to me?

I totally agree on the turning of the lights off. I think I'll hit the local Hobby Lobby tomorrow morning and buy a couple strings of green lights to wrap around the front bushes to honour the victims!

Cesar Milan Foundation is getting roasted by lots of people for this idea on their facebook page. There are people that support the idea too, but I sincerely hope they rethink this and pull the request and ask that those that have shared and retweeted to remove as well. It really is a horrible idea, IMO. In fact, it's something that I fear will cause more division in the country and even in Newtown.

My Reflections On A Senseless Tragedy

An article written by Mike D'Avino - Uncle and Godfather of Rachel Marie D’Avino.

Late that evening our family was told that all survivors from this senseless tragedy were accounted for. It wasn’t until early Saturday morning that my sister-in-law Mary was told that her daughter’s life was taken from us. Rachel, a 29-year behavioral therapist of special needs students, had tried to shield her students from the flying bullets. She paid the ultimate price for her heroism on that dreadful day.

agree, not a good idea. darkness is not a good tribute to children who were the lights of their parents lives.

Thank you ... interesting article.

Killing parents/parent is not exactly unique for a school shooter, as has already been pointed out above.
And, so far it appears to me AL motivation was opposite of being smothered. His mother apparently wanted him to become more independent, and he supposedly resisted that.

I wish celebrities would just stay out of this entirely.

This school sounds similar to the districts here. There are no special needs classrooms per say (unless you have a low-functioning child)... the kids with IEPs are integrated into a normal classroom, typically assigned an aide or volunteer, and see a therapist (depending on how many therapists they work with... for instance, my daughter gets speech, occupational, and physical therapy) once a week for an hour.

Oh my word. The dog whisperer telling us to turn off our lights. I don't care for his dog training methods and I certainly think turning off the Christmas lights is a terrible idea. :banghead:
