I am far from sure that NL herself had MS. For instance, she drove for many hours to her mini-vacation. As for AL, he had no problem with putting on gear, driving to school and killing a number of people. Hardly a bed-ridden individual, don't you think?

MS manifest differently for different people, in fact, MS is one of those diseases that remain an utter mystery in a lot of senses. There is a hereditary link to it, though, that is for certain. My uncle has MS as does his daughter.

Some people are diagnosed and only have vague symptoms, some people are only affected in their lower extremities, some people are affected in a mental capacity.

MS can affect problem solving and reasoning abilities. It can also cause depression, fatigue and attention span issues. It all really depends what myelin sheaths are damaged/attacked. My uncle, for example, can no longer walk. He has no feeling in his legs, but his speech, swallowing abilities, eyesight and hearing remain unaffected, he was diagnosed almost 40 years ago and has only been in a wheelchair for the last 7-10 years. Other people are completely incapacitated. My cousin is also diagnosed and hers manifests only as "tingling" in her extremities at this point, although it remains to be seen how it will progress for her.

Jesse Lewis's dad was just on CNN. He doesn't have much family, was mostly just him and Jesse. I feel so badly for him and I am so worried for him once the media leaves and everything dies down and he is left with his thoughts.

does he have a wife or other children?

Do you think Nancy fabricated this story or were her friends mistaken?

MS is not directly inherited.
"MS is not directly inherited, but genetics play an important role in who gets the disease. While the risk of developing MS in the general population is 1/750, the risk rises to 1/40 in anyone who has a close relative (parent, sibling, child) with the disease. In families in which several people have been diagnosed with MS, the risk may be even higher. Even though identical twins share the same genetic makeup, the risk for an identical twin is only 1/4—which means that some factor(s) other than genetics are involved."

As for NL possibly having MS, we know so far that NL went out to the bar (frequently) and to the shooting range with her guns. She was also apparently able to drive for hours. So I am far from convinced she herself had it, let alone AL.

I don't think any of her friends said NL had MS. Doesn't it come from aunt Marsha?

A friend of mine has MS. Has had it for years and her only symptom is when she goes up stairs, her thighs get numb. On the other hand, my brother's girlfriend died from complications brought on by MS. It has an extremely wide variation of symptoms.

I don't think so. He was saying that Jesse told him this was going to be the best Christmas ever! Last Friday Dad thought, boy was he wrong. He now believes his son was right. He said the support and out pouring of love is exactly what Christmas is about he said.

:twocents: Depends on where the barrel was when fired.
We haven't heard what bullets he used.
.45 hollow point does damage, my husband shot himself with
one in the fore arm... "by accident"
it ended up in his elbow and messed up
his arm BAD! It did bounce around. His ulna was fractured,
the radius wasn't touched.
he had to have 2 bone grafts! and a skin graft.
He also got compartment syndrome and almost
lost his arm!

It's not a skull but...
He is lucky.

This is from a guy who has experience (so he says)
from what I did read he does... but... it makes me feel icky
to read it.

feel free pens!

I have had one patient who had compartment syndrome, while I was working in recovery room. That is some scary stuff! And, very very painful!

It may have been an excuse she used to avoid having to socialize as much as she might be expected to given her status. She may not have wanted others to know about problems with her son.

"The confirmation of the (Asperger’s) diagnosis from reliable sources has not occurred, and even if it does at some point, the complexity of Adam Lanza’s state of mind cannot be explained by Asperger’s,” Cohen said. “This type of violence does not occur in AS, and individuals with AS are much more likely to be the victims of bullying and violence by others. There are many complex layers to unravel before anyone can elucidate the reasons for his actions.”

Okay, or you know, you can just skate over the fact that it manifests differently for different people. People CAN drive for hours with MS, people CAN live completely normally with MS. There are many, many people who walk among you that are diagnosed with MS who you would not know HAD MS if they didn't directly tell you. The fact that she could drive, go to a bar, or go to a shooting range does not mean she fabricated the diagnosis...

Someone in the family may have researched and decided that AL fit the Aspergers picture, or used the diagnosis to avoid further explanation.

Why would Nancy have purchased hollow point bullets if those aren't normally used for target practice? Are these Doomsday prepper bullets? Did Axxx buy them while mom was on the mini-vacation?

Curious as to whether his brain showed any pathology at autopsy.

Can they autopsy his heart? His soul? Because that's where I think they need to look.

Absolutely, in fact they interviewed several with Aspergers on our local news channel last night and they were very intelligent, highly gifted, successful and very gentle.

I know this is not the popular opinion but Im not convince any type of mental illness caused this to happen. In fact everyday Im more convinced there isnt and that is why the ME is looking for anything and everything that may explain this senseless tragedy.

Sometimes I think it is easier for some if they believe the issues were complex. They can draw some kind of comfort from that thinking it will not be repeated in the future due to the complexity of why it happened.
.

Respectfully snipped.

It's popular with me. And I agree with your entire post. (I just wish all of us could stop calling him by his name. He doesn't deserve that recognition and I believe it fuels other creeps and inspires them to do the same. Let's just call him by what he is - the coward. )
