Why would Nancy have purchased hollow point bullets if those aren't normally used for target practice? Are these Doomsday prepper bullets? Did Axxx buy them while mom was on the mini-vacation?

I found this before ...

Frangible bullets have been designed for a number of applications. Frangible bullets are primarily used in training exercises to reduce lead hazards on firing ranges. Frangible ammo is ideal for marksmanship training for both indoor and outdoor ranges, tactical team training, close-in engagement of metal targets and specialized service use. As such, it is the safest full-power training ammo for police and military shooters, civilian range owners and casual shooters.

That's from paragraph 6 .. they may have bought them for that reason, good excuse anyway if he had another purpose in mind for a while.

I am far from sure that NL herself had MS. For instance, she drove for many hours to her mini-vacation. As for AL, he had no problem with putting on gear, driving to school and killing a number of people. Hardly a bed-ridden individual, don't you think?
MS CAN result in becoming bed ridden, however, it is episodic, and with remission will leave the person able to drive, and function at prior or near prior level. It is unpredictable how far down you go and how much you recover. Newer medications and treatments however can make a big difference.

It may have been an excuse she used to avoid having to socialize as much as she might be expected to given her status. She may not have wanted others to know about problems with her son.
Not trying to be snarky, but then why choose MS as her diagnosis?

Signed and shared. Thanks.

This is great recognition of a Medal of Honor for the slain faculty members

But really, Why do we need a petition? Everyone in the Free World expects an honor for them

The Obama Adminstration should just do the morally and American right thing and honor this woman and the others who gave their lives

A petition is like asking for consideration for them to be honored

Just do it Obama. Make it happen

If AL bought them some clerk is going to remember that and tell LE. To the best of my knowledge hollow points would be used for protection...to make certain if one was shooting a dangerous person or animal, it would stop them in their tracks.

My father was a hunter and also a avid range shooter. He did not use hollow points for either, but he did have hollow points in his pistol, which he had for protection .

For sympathy's sake it sounds sufficiently dire, and the multiplicity of possible effects allows one to pick and choose.

From the article:

The confirmation of the (Asperger’s) diagnosis from reliable sources has not occurred, and even if it does at some point, the complexity of Adam Lanza’s state of mind cannot be explained by Asperger’s,” Cohen said. “This type of violence does not occur in AS, and individuals with AS are much more likely to be the victims of bullying and violence by others. There are many complex layers to unravel before anyone can elucidate the reasons for his actions.”

Perhaps it was also an excuse to get the killer in a treatment facility.

Whatever diagnosis Adam Lanza had I could care less

Who really cares about Adam? He was a psychotic mass murderer and at the end of the day, it is what it is and that is his legacy and who he is

Hitler was a mass murderer

And so was John Gacy, JeffreyDahmer, Robert Holmes, the South American drug lord, the Mafia, Suddam Hussein, Idi Amin, the Taliban, Osama Bin Laden, Al Quaeda and many more are all mass murderers

The only thing I think about are these faculty members, Nancy Lanza, and the poor children who looked forward to their Christmas Season and the rest of their lives with their families and friends was brutally and with complete discrimination wiped out...

According to Tafoya, typically in a mass killing, “there is an event that triggers rage.”

“They decide on a mission, and come hell or high water, they’ll finish it,” Tafoya said. “My instinct is that he was planning a strategy long before, and this was not a spur of the moment decision to do this.”

“Multiple shots (at his mother) implies a rage — and a long-standing perceived ill or wrong,” Tafoya said. “He probably had a very tenuous relationship with any authority figure. If an authority figure (like his mother) constantly tells him ‘no,’ a tipping point came and he decided to kill her.”

“People with Asperger’s can have rage reactions, but it is from frustration at not being able to put their feelings into words,” Cohen said. “They have tantrums, not premeditated murder like in Connecticut.”

According to Cohen, this case seems to be more likely one in which the individual had a severe personality disorder or was psychotic.

I wonder if we'll find out what that trigger was ....

These are good articles, but, they forgot to mention that some parents don't like to face reality when something is "just not right" with their child. Some parents get angry at the professionals that are attempting to help the troubled and/or mentally disabled child. They refuse help and carry on as if everything is "ok"..

Wendy good points

So many parents get caught in the "I know my child better than anyone" mindset and therefore fail to heed some simple constructive advice and ongoing help from professionals who see tohusands of children a year and are trying to be supportive as an objective helper.

Many experts sees things that parents are blinded from seeing in their kids

The CO movie shooter, did he leave the theater to reload or why did he step out?

I really do not think that much thought process goes into buying hollow points or not, kinda like 2% vs 1% milk. I know I have used hollow points at target practice simply because I had them. I have not bought bullets for years but at the time, cost wise they ran about the same as regular one. And I am not going to defend target shooting as the ranges do not give you a picture of ducks, rather when I went it was Sudam Hussein, your target is going to be a human with head shots or to the heart rewarded, what a sport!

I'm still one thread behind (don't think I'm ever going to catch up), but there were just a couple of things I wanted to add.

There have been neuropsychs, pediatricians and other medical professionals who have openly admitted to giving a false dx of ASD so that the student is entitled to more support at school.

I'm not convinced the ASD dx is accurate...That's not to say it isn't.
The 'shyness' and not wanting to be around or talk to people could be extreme Social Anxiety Disorder...no arm chair analysis there, just giving an alternative.
There is just too much overlap in dx'es and too little known about AL for any of us to know what his correct dx was. My guess is that he would have even been a difficult case for a professional.

NL didn't attend any of the ASD support group meetings. Why? because she knew he wasn't really on the spectrum, or because of shame and stigma?

It's time we stop saying 'we need to educate the public and our children more about people with different disorders'. We need to get out there and actually do it! They aren't freaks, or losers or weirdos- they are sick!

Why is there so much sympathy and acceptance for a person with cancer who is seen as a fighter and a survivor, yet there is still so much stigma about MI? Maybe AL would have gotten more help, or NL would have gotten better help and support, even for herself to make better choices if there was less stigma.

We need to spread the word however we can. 'Like' ASD and MI pages on FB and always share their posts. Show that you are not afraid to spread the truth and awareness and that it's okay to face these issues.

Push for schools to implement some part of the curricula to understanding the symptoms, traits and the truth about various disorders, enforcing the message that they are different, not less. (my favourite quote from Temple Grandin that I believe applies to all disorders)

When you ask someone how they are and they say 'okay' but you know that they're not, press the issue gently. Let them know you are willing to listen and have an open mind.
We need to educate ourselves about these disorders so we truly understand them no matter how differently they can manifest.
Parents that have children with any type of disorder need to feel 'safe' to discuss the real issues they face. It may take time for them to gain enough trust to talk about the harsh realities of these disorders.

I personally am honoured that my friend feels safe talking to me.That I was the person she came to when she was going to an ASD forum and felt torn because she REALLY wanted to go but had never left her son with anyone in his 8 years because she was worried about how he would cope and how the person looking after him might judge him and her about his differences.

How would you feel openly admitting that your child can be incontinent, or still uses a dummy even when they are adults for comfort and stimulation, or that they hear voices or see things? What about admitting that the scratches or black eyes you have are from your child. That they talk about killing themselves or other people on a daily basis. Or that they cut up, or burn their own bodies. That you can't invite people to your house because you don't know if it's going to make your child have a meltdown or beause your house is really messy because every minute of your time is spent on doing OT, making sure your child is safe and getting an education? Or that they smear their bodily functions all over themselves or the house.

How uncomfortable has this made you feel just READING it? Imagine LIVING it 24/7.

It's easy to say just put them in a group home if it's that bad. BUt as mothers we want to nurture our children and we love our kids and want to be with them regardless. When you hear so many terrible stories about the atrocities that go on in those places , and if your child can't/won't talk to you about what's going on there....how safe would you really feel leaving them there?
We've seen cases here where children with 'hidden' disabilities are abused, bullied and ridiculed by staff even at school which is just few hours out of each day.
Having said all of this, professionals should ALWAYS be involved. ALWAYS.

There are so many studies showing the extreme stress levels of parents of children with ASD's, LD's, and MI's....which I can post in the tot's to teens forum. The number 1 cause of stress and even depression is lack of support and understanding from schools.....That right there could be a connection since AL had been to several schools and was homeschooled for some time. I'm not critisizing teachers by saying this. Often their hands are tied by the system, but others really have no interest in understanding the issues or supporting the child.
The quality of teachers make a huge difference in the lives of these children.

Laws vary, but even if you have a ton of money, in many places you cannot personally pay for an aide to be with your child at school. Your child is only entitled to what any other student is entitled to for any specific dx.

~Off my soap box~

Back in thread 6 there was talk about the damage of the bullets into the carpark. This is a pic of one of the cars.

Okay, or you know, you can just skate over the fact that it manifests differently for different people. People CAN drive for hours with MS, people CAN live completely normally with MS. There are many, many people who walk among you that are diagnosed with MS who you would not know HAD MS if they didn't directly tell you. The fact that she could drive, go to a bar, or go to a shooting range does not mean she fabricated the diagnosis...

NewlyMinted thanks fo ryour comments

MS is not a death sentence at all. MS patients can live a full life

Lou Gehrig's disease, a similar muscular/skeletal disease in some ways to MS, is a death sentence (not trying to sound insentive)

My high school friend lives in St Louis MO has had MS all 53 years and is doing just fine

I wonder if he was so personality disordered and so obsessively addicted to the gaming that the thought of going off to school or where ever is what set him off. If he thought he wouldn't be able to immerse himself in computerized fantasy. Other behaviors described seem very obsessive and his mom doesn't sound like the type to get him on an SSI check and just let him play computer games for years.

Please forgive me if this has been mentioned- I am really behind in the threads here ( and other ones that I follow - is there anything going on I should know about?) I was wondering about the trigger also. Several of NL's friends mentioned in interviews -that she was looking at a 4 year college for him in washington, and that she had even mentioned that she and he were possibly moving there. It is college application time of year.

<<Mark Tambascio, a restaurant proprietor who had known Nancy Lanza for several years, said she had recently discovered a school that seemed to suit him.

“They were going to move out there together,” >>

just thinking.
