Lanza shot Nancy Lanza multiple times at their home at 36 Yogananda St., according to police.

“Multiple shots (at his mother) implies a rage — and a long-standing perceived ill or wrong,” Tafoya said. “He probably had a very tenuous relationship with any authority figure. If an authority figure (like his mother) constantly tells him ‘no,’ a tipping point came and he decided to kill her.”

I'm not saying Nancy thought this, but in the event of a huge economic collapse, people believe much as we know it will be severely damaged and it will cause all kinds of havoc. Another issue would be not having access to your money if it's in a bank anyway. Preppers/Survivalists usually believe they would have to be totally self-sufficient in these doomsday scenarios. When it comes down to it, the guns are to kill off your neighbors who were not prepared and will become desperate. I guess, they will then come after what you have.

Agree. It was all there for him. This was a tragedy waiting to happen, IMO.

Not blaming anyone, but it makes me crazy to hear that she was afraid to let him cook, but she took him shooting, and left guns in the home.

I hear ya 100%. We watched the Natl Geo on this a few times and I told my husband I just wouldn't be able to live life thinking I might have to shoot my neighbors either!

mikeysmommom I appreciate your passionate, heartfelt post; you are right that 27 people needlessly lost their lives. Unfortunately we do not yet know: IF Peter Lanza owns any firearms, IF the Lanza's went shooting together as a family while Peter and Nancy Lanza were married, IF Adam and Peter Lanza had an estranged relationship, IF Nancy Lanza allowed Adam to have access to her firearms, IF Nancy Lanza had a gun safe or trigger locks or too many other IF's to state.

Much of the reporting has been and continues to be based on speculation, rumor or poor sourcing of information. There are several documented examples of misreporting/inaccurate reporting about Nancy Lanza and the shooter.

I am simply urging us to have the patience to allow LE to conduct their investigation, the individuals who were close friends of or related to the Lanza family to come forward and the true facts to come out before we consider or believe that we fully understand the situation. The facts are critically important because when they are revealed they can be utilized to help prevent further tragedies.

Now is the time to honor the victims, not put too much weight on speculations about how or why.

It is very simple why the press is not going after the father,he was not the one who taught Adam to shoot guns,he also was not the one who kept many guns and tons of ammo in a house with a very disturbed young adult.When the news first showed the divorce papers the Mom had final say in all things Adam not the father.Adam news reports say refused to see his dad for at least 2 years,you can not make an adult have a relationship with you if they do not want one.The reason she is being blamed is because she was the one who purchased,allowed her son access to lethal weapons.She did pay the ultimate price when her son murdered her but it really is not fair to try to smear the father who most likely was kept in the dark about his ex wife and adult son gun hobbies.If only those guns had trigger locks 20 children would be alive and 6 teachers too.

The Press has no way to prove when, how often or anything else about the relationship of Adam to his father and brother. At this point, it is in both of their best interests if the public perception is that they had absolutely no involvement with Adam for years.

There is no reason to blame Adam's mother at this point, either. I've seen a press report that she took her son to see a psychiatrist. I can't imagine what else she should be expected to do. It would be the psychiatrist's duty, not her's, to report Adam if there was a belief he would harm himself or others.

We don't know if the mother kept the guns locked in a gun safe and Adam seized them AFTER he killed her. There is still too much we don't know so let's take care as to who we blame.

Yes, of course she did. However, my post was specifically in response to a post #128, this thread by HastingsChi which urged us to listen to a raw audio:

I believe the article and raw audio I linked to, is the one that HastingsChi urged us to listen to, even though it was behind a pay wall and would be impossible to share the link.

I would say shooting someone 4 times in the FACE shows a lot of anger. The face is very personal, sounds like he wanted to obliterate her not just kill her. Course the kid wasn't all that normal so perhaps the facial symbolism doesn't mean much in his case.

And yes 4 head shots is overkill, 2 with a med to small caliber weapon might be practical but not 4.

Not discussing this because we can't but here is Newton residents response to the NRA.

Stout is a member of a grass-roots groups formed after the Dec. 14 shooting called Newtown United, which supports the victims' families and is advocating tighter gun rules. He said it was "ridiculous" for the NRA to blame the media and video games for such mass shootings and not mention the easy accessibility to assault rifles and ammunition.

"It's ridiculous we can't all come together and say, 'Ok, what makes sense?'" Stout said. "Something has to change."
He added: "More guns is not the solution."
