Conway Presser - Fri., 2/6/09

I think it must be regional. My best friend is from Long Island, NY, and she says "pocketbook" for purse.

And there are countries where "purse" means ladies' wallet. Lol. I wonder what it means in Fla?

I don't know, I would love my son no matter what... what I wouldn't do is lie or cover up for him.

ITA. Even if I made the mistake of panicking and doing or saying some stupid things in the first days due to shock or disbelief, I would quickly put my hand up to it (with or without immunity) and get myself together and assist LE, even if they wanted to charge me. If Casey has murdered her, she really shouldn't be on the street and her family should know that, even if they still love her.

ETA...and I think this is quite different to your child murdering a stranger, where the stranger's family can seek justice for the victim. The A's are the only family left to seek justice for her.

Just home from work. Okay, this might be wrong of me to ask as it might of been talked about earlier in the thread...but what in the world does the troops who are fighting for our country, and what they go through when they return from duty..have to do with this case and what the A's are going through? ( I watched a tid bit of the presser from work). Please don't bash me for this.

Hi Katrina, I watched the whole thing and was baffled by that as well.

My reaction when he stressed they were NOT at the HOME, was maybe they're worried about people trying to get into their home while they're all busy across town at the memorial? It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out the cremated remains are already at the A's.

Thugs do read the obits for the sole purpose of robbing the family home & in this case it would be very tempting for a sicko to steal her remains just for fun or to the extreme for ransom?

If the remains are there or not I believe there will be security at the house..Also at the FH if they are truly there "safe & sound" per BC..This statement was meant to convey they're concerned about them but I'm still not convinced they didn't already have a funeral in secret & they're intentionally leading all of us away from this fact..LE too so they will leave them alone until they can't put them off any longer.

  • #205
I agree. BC stated they were not at the home. If the remains were not cremated, how could they be at the home?

Great catch! I think you should be allowed to cross examine him at his next presser!

It was talked about a lot....and don't worry about getting bashed, almost everyone felt the same, and many were very offended by it (understandably). It's all about the As.

pocketbook= purse

Thank you.

I just googled a dictionary definition, and it's got a few meanings...

pock·et·book (pkt-bk)
n.
1. A purse; a handbag.
2. A pocket-sized folder or case used to hold money and papers; a billfold.
3. Financial resources; money supply: prices to fit your pocketbook.
4. often pocket book A pocket-sized, usually paperbound book. Also called pocket edition.
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pocketbook

Someone should ask him to clarify it! Lol. So, if it means purse in Florida, I assume that means they want mourners to bring their wallets...that makes sense...lol.

They'd be sol with me 'cause I keep my money in my purse/pocketbook/handbag. Oh well.

PS- maybe they're hoping the men will have money (?)

LOL! I needed a good giggle...thx! I think there's a reason they didn't specifically say wallets when they seem to have excluded everything but!

Exactly...I thought the same thing...what a poor choice of words. I can't believe he even referenced our troops...IMO, they would be disgusted if they'd heard his comment.

ok...i think i need to go visit the rant thread...

Perhaps Casey once expressed a desire to "perform for the troops"

... and BC took this on face value. :waitasec:

LOL re the donations! Maybe they think people will keep their cash in their pockets this way, and when they go through the security checks, which will have bracelet sales and donation buckets nearby, they will have to empty their pockets to go through the medical detector and they hope you don't put your money straight back in the pocket! Lol. Seriously, hopefully they won't ask for donations, hopefully they got enough for selling the tv rights that they don't have to...lol. I know you don't agree, and honestly, I hope you are right and I am wrong. I just really feel they want to make a living out of this tragedy.

He used the word "pocketbook"....perhaps one of our American friends can translate for us? Does "pocketbook" mean wallet in American?

He actually listed a bunch of things, so I think he used the word deliberately, but may be wrong.

No way...not 50! OMG!!!!! I remember when we hit 48 & that was soooo awful. I am so glad I'm not there...it's probably about 3 here and I'm not complaining......that is a million times worse. Hope you get a good southerly come thru this evening!

ETA...for our American friends, 50 celsius equals 122 fahrenheit!

Thats why I like you Bunny- we dont have to agree to get along and we can still have a giggle.:blowkiss:

I only feel the way I do because they have specifically said they do not want any donations....if they do a turnaround and pass around a collection tray- then I'll be joining you all on the dark side. ;-)
I wanna be right about this one for Caylees sake. I will be devestated if it turns out they value money more than Caylees dignity.

Southerly has arrived. :woohoo:

ETA: Just saw this on their MS page:

Attendees will pass through metal detectors and may not bring bags,
backpacks, purses, cameras or video recorders

So sounds like wallets are ok ;-) ....... just nothing that could hold a recording device or something more nasty.

And there are countries where "purse" means ladies' wallet. Lol. I wonder what it means in Fla?

Pocket book is common for purse.....depends on where you live...noticed that Nancy Grace call what she carries a pocketbook.

  • #216
I call what I carry a pocketbook. I would refer to a clutch bag (without handles) as a purse. However, I think that pocketbook/purse are interchangeable.

Bunny, as usual, I agree with you. We think alike.

personally I'm trying to figure out where one would put their keys or anything else...

I think the thing I find most offensive about the presser, is the person making the announcement is a criminal defence lawyer who is advising people to refuse to co-operate into the investigation of Caylee's murder. That is soooo off and offensive imo.

This is going to be a robbers dream.
How many crooks will be breaking into cars because they know every woman's purse will be inside?
I hope these women are smart enough to lock their purses and any other valuables in the trunk.
We had an event here that advertised no purses allowed and over 100 cars had their windows smashed.
They need some security in the parking lot.
