I don't disagree with that general thought process and that perspective, actually. But that's not the analysis or perspective I'm hearing anywhere except from you! Maybe you should apply for the task force :)

Someone posted a graph - probably on the last thread - of hospital and medical prep in various countries. The states was near the bottom of the list.

I bought some Carnation Instant Breakfast...it probably has more sugar than Boost or Ensure, but at least my kids will drink it! And by "kids" I also mean me. :)

Provisioned up with those Costco Protein drinks. The peach flavor is really good

I think the definition of hoarding or stock piling depends on the person or families. If you are a single person then what's reasonable for you is not reasonable for a family of 10 plus 2 grandparents. However buying enough food for 12 people isn't hoarding just because it's 12 times as much as 1 person needs. It's just basic math.

Dh and I had someone ask us once at a farmer's market if we had a store. Um, no. We have 5 teenagers! I went a week ago to a farmer's market and bought things by the bushel. I've done that for over a decade now though. It's still not hoarding even if some cranky overwrought person online thinks it is. ;) In fact it's quite possible that I might actually have less per person set aside then someone else putting aside food for just themselves.

Things seem to have escalated a bit in Houston area since Friday night when I was out shopping.

HEB limiting how many sanitizers, wipes, customers can buy

We are almost done with our preparing. Feed store was out of chicken/duck feed and I need shavings to keep on hand. Horses and geese have enough supplies. Barn and coops got a thorough cleaning yesterday. Making a big batch of sauerkraut soup for DH and chicken and rice soup for me for the week. Hopefully a little immunity boost from some homemade soups, although I’m not sure how helpful sauerkraut, potatoes and sausage are when it comes to immunity.

Yikes! The feed store was going to be one of my stops this week. I have to stock up on food for our goats, chickens and ducks.

All the new cases this wknd makes my hubby and I thankful we made the right decision just to stay home for a couple of weeks. He can still do his work online, my kids will do their daily homework online and I will still clean ,watch Netflix and spend time on WS.

@Oregonmama How are you guys holding up? Are you able to stay busy at home? Hobbies?

ETA: Sorry, I didn't see your second post. I'm glad things are going well.

We are fine until Friday until PMS time for my high school teen starts but so far all ok here. I might start on a quilt that my MIL has been trying to get me to start. I have zero sewing skills so I guess the time to learn is now! I can face time with my college kid back East as well. My other teen practices on his drums so...... we are covered! LOL

My mom is 83. Looks 63. Is at university working on her master’s degree after finishing a double major last year. No joke. She went through Nazi occupied Holland during WWII, had her tonsils taken out without anesthesia at age 4, had a root canal without anesthesia at age 9, had a blood infection and almost lost her arm, also at age 9 and had mumps, measles, whooping cough- pretty much every disease we now vaccinate for.

She’s smart, sharp and has the purest, kindest soul. I hope she has that rugged WWII immunity that will protect her but losing her would be a massive loss to those who know her and love her. And that’s a huge number of people.

It baffles me that people discount a disease just because it only affects the elderly or those with conditions. Awful. My mom’s life matters.
Gosh...my mother went through the same thing in Holland, ..the stories she had from that awful period. Even the tonsillectomy.... on a kitchen table. Left, by herself, right after the war to Venezuela for a job.
She lived to 98 years old, her mind fully intact.

Your mom sounds wonderful, all the best to her.

So how does this compare to the flu?

Meaning how many are in critical condition or have died during this same time period from this facility from the flu?

3 people- critical condition
1 person - has died

When were they tested and diagnosed? How long before they were deemed critical?
Critical due to respiratory? Organs shutting down? Had to be vented?

Sample far too small to be statistically significant.

As for "just a 'flu", which I am hearing in my own communications with people I know. ....let's imagine that China did not do anything proactive at all, or any other countries either, since the 'flu happens every year in one form or another.......where would we be now?

Oh my goodness, I LOOVED Carnation Instant Breakfast as a kid!! I haven’t thought about it in years!

I thought I was in heaven if I woke up to a packet of the malted chocolate flavor. The strawberry came in a close second. The slightly grainy texture was part of the fun. An extra bonus if it didn't fully dissolve and I got a sip with a tasty clump. :D
