This is kinda nuts, isn't it? Meat? Huh? Why would you stock up on something as perishable as meat? It's not like we are all going into quarantine tomorrow morning.

This is a bit like the Orson Wells "War of the Worlds " hysteria that happened in 1938.

My son (15) informed me that he doesn't care if we get stuck in the house as long as we have steak on hand. Could I please buy a bunch and freeze it? Well, of course, Your Highness. Shall I purchase grapes to feed you while I fan your precious head as well? :D

Edited to add that I'll probably go buy steak, because, well, you know...he's so darn cute. :)

Thanks for the stylus suggestion. I checked myself out at the grocery store today and was giving the screen and keypad the evil eye as I did so. I found one in my office supply drawer and am putting it in my purse right now.

He didn't order lung x-rays?
No. I have had pneumonia a few times in the past 20 years, only had xrays once. Just antibiotics, breathing treatments and lots of rest. I've learned how to take care of it over the years and usually can zap it in a couple weeks.

I haven’t done much shopping either. I did order masks last week. (Sorry). I did stock up on bottled water as I use a lot and didn’t want to have to go to the store. I got a mega thing of toilet paper but probably not enough for too long.

I stocked up on dog food and some cat food but I need more dry cat food. I stocked up on rubbing alcohol to put in spray bottles.

I am going out in public and my family does as well. I’m trying to limit it. Luckily my office is small but I’m doing more work from home.

But in the end I don’t know what I can do besides hope for the best and wash my hands and try to disinfect religiously.

I have been doing the following though:

1. Gargling with alcohol-based listerine every night for 30 seconds. I haven’t swabbed my nostrils yet because I had allergies. But that’s next.
2. Not taking out my phone in public. I just wait until I get home or to the office and can wash my hands real well first.
3. Disinfecting my phone with rubbing alcohol on a makeup cotton pad a few times a day.
4. Even more so not touching things in public with my fingers when possible. I use my knuckles or my arm or my shirt. Whatever I can do. I usually do that but not 100%. Now I’m doing that 100%.
5. I’m also trying to exercise harder to build up my lungs but that will take a few months.

The next thing I’m going to do is try to get zinc tablets to build up my immunity some. And maybe chew some garlic bulbs (yuck. I hate that so much) to try to stave off any infection. How Garlic Fights Colds and The Flu
Raw garlic is great. Try chewing a bulb, following that with a spoonful of honey to neutralize it, then drink some lemon water. You get used to it. I used to do that a lot when I worked in a toxic building and was often sick.

BREAKING: I am announcing a new directive requiring NY health insurers to waive cost sharing associated with testing for #coronavirus, including emergency room, urgent care and office visits.
We can't let cost be a barrier to access to COVID-19 testing for any New Yorker.

The 44-story F5 Tower in downtown Seattle closed for cleaning Monday after F5 learned an employee had been in contact with someone who tested positive for coronavirus, according to The Seattle Times.
Rob Gruening, a spokesman for the company, told the Times the employee tested negative, but the building was closed as a precaution.

First responders in Washington to begin wearing protective gear for all calls
From CNN's Kay Jones
Local emergency responders in Kirkland, Washington, are changing their procedures after four local nursing home residents died of the coronavirus.

Kirkland emergency medical technicians will now wear protective clothing every time they are called out to respond to a sick patient, even if that person does not tell them about any coronavirus symptoms, city spokeswoman Kellie Stickney told CNN.

Stickney said there were two recent cases in which first responders treated people without any special protection, learning only after the fact that the patients had been experiencing flu-like symptoms.

Stickney said she did not know whether either of those patients were later determined to be infected with coronavirus.

Australia may use biosecurity laws to detain citizens suspected of carrying coronavirus, attorney general warns
From CNN’s Eric Cheung
Australia will consider invoking the Biosecurity Act to detain its citizens suspected of carrying the coronavirus, Attorney General Christian Porter warned Monday.

In an interview with CNN affiliate Sky News Australia, Porter said there is a range of powers available that will allow the government to control people’s movements as it handles outbreaks such as the novel coronavirus.

He said detention may be an option for those who refuse to cooperate with health officials, including undergoing "a brief decontamination" or providing "information on where they have been or who they have been in contact with.”

The government will also consider declaring “human health zones” that will require everyone entering or leaving a certain area to be screened.

ROME (Reuters) - The death toll from coronavirus in Italy jumped to 52 on Monday from 34 the day before and the total number of confirmed cases in Europe's worst affected country climbed past the 2,000 mark.

The increase in deaths was the largest since the outbreak surfaced 10 days ago in the wealthy northern regions of Lombardy and Veneto. Lombardy, around Italy's financial capital Milan, is by far with hardest hit, with 38 casualties.

The virus has since spread south but the vast majority of cases remain centered on the original hotspots, with the addition of Emilia Romagna, another affluent region which borders on both Lombardy and Veneto and now has more cases than Veneto.

I live in SA, and this is turning into a hot mess fast. What good is quarantine if they’re releasing people too quickly, and with pending lab results?? They’re scheduled to release all of the quarantined cruise passengers tomorrow. Last week, it was 90+ quarantined after returning directly from China where all of this started.

This particular person was released, stayed in a local hotel, came into contact with at least a dozen people, who have come into contact with an untold number of people... it’s just a mess. Nobody seems to know what they’re doing, if we can’t even get basic quarantine and testing protocols down.

The first mistake was asking/assuming they would self-quarantine. People just don't follow the rules they get bored.
Two weeks wasn't long enough either!

It sounds like Australia is a good place to be during a epidemic.
