Dow falls more than 500 points

The US stock market tumbled, with the Dow tanking more than 550 points today, as investors balanced the economic jolt of the Federal Reserve’s emergency half-point rate cut with the statement the rate cut makes about the potential damage coronavirus could do to the American economy.

I’m sorry I’m behind why does it seem Italy is getting slammed. Are they testing a lot more ? Or are these normal(ish) numbers. Sorry again if this is covered already.

curious ... what does everyone need the hydrogen peroxide and rubbing alcohol for?
Mouth rinse as I mentioned before. Also, since some are having trouble finding hand sanitizer - Found this online:

Using Hydrogen Peroxide for Cleaning | LoveToKnow
cleaning.lovetoknow.com › Using_Hydrogen_Peroxide_for_Cleaning

Search for: Is hydrogen peroxide safe to clean with?
What does hydrogen peroxide kill?
According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) , hydrogen peroxide killsyeasts, fungi, bacteria, viruses, and mold spores.

I’m still annoyed with my current tp situation. We always have one family sized pack idk 24-36 whatever rolls? Plus an open family pack on hand. Dh shops so I’m going to have to mention it without sounding panicky lol. They discontinued our usual brand /size preferred type last month so he apparently hasn’t chosen an alternative. FWIW I have. No idea if they’re mega super double. No clue. Just know I don’t want to run out

eta four people in the household
You could order more tp from amazon.
You would not need to open the box it arrives in for a while so put it out of the way, maybe spray it lightly with lysol. They think the virus lives on surfaces for 8 days so ny the time you need it the box will be safe to open. ...i think too much sometimes.

Well around here if there’s a break in a main or another pipe. It can take up to a few days to fix. And what if half the water dept is out sick. Neighborhoods and sections of town can be without water. Or if there’s a big fire causing extra water usage we get “rusty water” for a while.
4 gallons a day plus pet. I can’t buy or store that much for long term . Like to have a few days though.
I wonder if people think the water supply will be contaminated?

I can’t imagine it would be.... am I missing something? Is this possible?

"Public and private labs say they’re not even close to reaching the federal government’s promises that thousands, if not a million, tests for the virus could be 'performed' soon."
Estimates Fall Short of F.D.A.’s Pledge for 1 Million Coronavirus Tests

The Association of Public Health Laboratories, which represents state and local government laboratories around the country, has said that its labs would be able to conduct about 10,000 tests a day when all of its 100 members that can perform testing are running. Scott Becker, the executive director of the lab association, said Monday that labs can run about 100 tests per day. As of Monday, he said fewer than half of those labs were able to do so.

About 4:15 into the lastest Dr. John Campbell video, he noted that in the US, that folks had to pay themselves if they are positive, or if they are negative. (yes, insurance may cover, may be it's within the deductibles/copays so folks have to pay that, and many don't have insurance of course). US needs to look into that quickly as is a penalty for coming forward he says. He says something needs to change in US.

He goes on to talk about UK and how they are handling.

TP update: DH got two jumbo roll 6-packs at Meijer yesterday. There was plenty of stock for the time being. While they weren't on this month's Costco list, we also buy multipacks of Cottonelle Flushable Wipes to keep our bums clean :D We're not going to panic but feel that we are in good stead with household supplies and food staples at this time.

omg flushable wipes! never thought of it
thanks for the idea

Twitter is asking all of its employees worldwide to stay away from their offices until further notice to avoid spreading the novel coronavirus, the company said in a message posted on its official blog Twitter encourages all employees to work from home

My hubby’s company has started solely tele-working as of yesterday. He said he’s aware of numerous other tech companies here in Silicon Valley that are doing the same.

Government needs to step up its game here in the Bay Area- not sure if they’ve contemplated the global impact of Facebook, Apple, and Google having hundreds of people out of work sick with coronavirus....

Could bring the big-tech economy to it’s knees.

I haven't heard about Silicon Valley but I did hear that they are worried it might affect those on the stock exchange floor.

NYSE could close trading floor in coronavirus contingency

"New York Stock Exchange is beginning to prepare for the possibility that the floor might not be able to open. It's a mixture of both humans and an automated trading system, computerized trading system. So they're planning for a possibility that the… floor traders, the brokers, the designated market makers can't make it in because they have to stay home."

This is a worry in many areas of uninsured, poor residents.
Many will be carrying the virus and not know because they can't afford to go to doctor or get tested.
think of all the agricultural workers. Some, if not documented, would be afraid to come forward if sick.

I never heard of them either before now. Interesting.

For people like myself that have Septic tanks and are not on city sewage pipes, please be careful with TP. Make sure it says "Septic Safe" or you may end up having to pay for Septic cleanouts some months down the line.

I always have trouble finding the Septic Safe markings on TP.

think of all the other 'confined while working'
individuals. Like military barracks, college dormitories and classrooms, US Navy ships, etc.
The numbers and potentials are infinite.
We just have no idea where this could go.

I'm really curious how this will work if there is a local epidemic. We know from China and South Korea that the virus lasts months. It started in December and is ongoing in March.

People are encouraged to prep for 2 weeks in the event that they are ill, but people and organizations are also thinking that isolation during an outbreak is the best option to avoid contracting the virus. It doesn't really make sense in the big picture unless there is government control, similar to China, with 3-day wrist bands for people who are virus free allowed to shop for household needs once a week.

Iran has temporarily freed 5400 prisoners to help fight the virus ~BBC. Let's hope that the prisoners have suddenly decided that they want to help people rather than help themselves.
