So, this happened. I tried to purchase 2 each of paper towels and toilet paper from Amazon.

They have limited it to one each.
I'm hoping shortages and limits will be a short-lived thing. I can imagine manufacturers are working overtime to get supplies to the stores. I hope so.

I can live without paper towels (remember cloths and laundry, lol) but would hate for soap in general to be in short supply - haven't seen that yet.

I was reading a Vox article....."The coronavirus exposes the history of racism and “cleanliness " While the epidemic may be new, xenophobia has been intertwined with public health discourse for a very long time."

Scrolling through this thread I do not see one post, yet, where anyone discusses the moral implications and how pharmaceutical companies are probably gearing up to make a vaccine that they will claim "Everyone should get" and everyone will run out and do it. The Pharmaceutical industry is known for gaining huge profits in cases of "epidemics" and also cases of "pandemics."

I am not seeing any sense of care for the citizens of China at all in any post.
Threads 1 through 9 were dedicated to them....now the problem is at our doorstep....

It just surprised me, I guess. Wasn't expecting Amazon to limit. I'm happy I am able to get one each. I have a new puppy and paper towels are very needed lol.

Most people get bored and won't self isolate.
Okay, this is going to be really dorky, but as you put aside a supply of food and other products, also think about things to keep you and your family occupied, if quarantined. Hobbies, books, projects, etc. The internet certainly provides entertainment, but can be mind-numbing after awhile. Pity people without some hobbies to pick up.

A million thanks to @LaborDayRN
Waiting for DH locum DR coming home Saturday and leaving again in a week. Y’all are front line soldiers & I salute you, along with EMT & anyone else I’ve forgotten. However, in my defense, I got a bottle of Pinot Grigio from Pig.
Thank you! And Pinot Grigio is never a bad idea!!

Talk about price gouging! I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the government cost per test kit was approximately $5.
I know there’s a lot of “added costs” in between.... but I want to know what’s in between that puts the cost over 6k???

Just sayin....
(or more technically - just askin...)

Some folks need new yachts, you know? And those beach houses in the Hamptons and Malibu don't pay for themselves.

This is really not fair at all. This is thread #11. All you have to do is go back to the right threads (listed links on Page 1 of this thread), and you will see plenty of comments about how we all felt really bad for what the Chinese people have been put through and are still going through.

This week's breaking news involves the first multiple Deaths in the US being announced and spreading starting to now hit new US States that were never hit before. And how Italy number of cases starting to sky rocket, as well as a few other countries now starting to be mentioned. So of course the news and discussions are mainly about the new breaking news this week.

I’m glad to know it’s not as efficient as the flu and can be contained. That’s good news. Hopefully we will get in gear as a planet and work hard to contain it.

I would really like to believe this, but I’m not sure this would really explain what happened on the Diamond Princess would it??

NNU were the nurse's union who "raised awareness" about the lack of protection and infrastructure needed in hospitals during the Ebola crisis. Remember that hospital in Texas that was handling Ebola patients in an unsafe manner?

National Nurse Survey Shows Hospitals Still Not Prepared for U.S. Ebola Patients

RN Strikes, Pickets - Actions in 16 States Nov 12 for Improved Ebola and Patient Safety Standards

ETA: I also like that they're demanding that any vaccine or treatment developed for COVID - 19 with taxpayer dollars be provided when needed for free to the public. Yes.
My SO and I talk about how they sent Thomas Duncan home all the time and there is an episode of pandemic on natgeo or discovery talks about if he had gone with his original plans he would have been at a party and how Dallas will like be a match to a gas tank if anything gets out here.

With immune deficiency and auto immune disease, I am already used to self isolating from large crowds and shopping at odd hours when pharmacies are closed, October to March. I've been doing this since 2008!
So this year I'll self isolate longer!
I have 9 whole members in my family. 3 are 2 hours away.
I'm a little too used to it!!

Hi Gitana1, those are the cases we know about. Since testing got off to a late start and some have mild cases, it's probably a lot lower.

oh Ray of Hope, I do like your name at this time...

For pet food needs and supplies, get it from Chewy.com. I order regularly from them, cheaper than in the stores, and they deliver very fast.
Agreed. So fast - I ordered one day and the package arrived the next day. And they have quite a variety of food, snacks, toys, litter, etc.

The Royals can set an example - the Queen wearing gloves to shake hands instead of avoiding people, for example. I'm also thinking of Princess Diana when she hugged an AIDS patient back in the '80s, when people were scared to do anything like that. This is a function they can serve - to be an example. Let's see the Royals washing hands!

Well, they washed their hands of Sarah, Andrew and RoyalSussex?

:p:D

Chewy is the best. I get 10 cat litters at a time. My delivery man hates me I am sure.
