Huge announcement.

I’m still in the last thread but had to come here to say:

It seems I’ve been recruited out of retirement to teach online overseas.

The urgent international call came a few minutes ago.

I can not tell you how DESPERATE they sounded. They are offering me TOP pay. They want me to start tomorrow lol.

Wow my life just changed.

I’m overwhelmed with emotion. Tears.

I will be on the front lines with these kids.
WHAT?!?

Having sailed twice with Norovirus onboard, DH and I have not gone to the buffet on cruise ships for more than five years. In fact, we no longer go to the main dining rooms and prefer to enjoy meals in smaller casual restaurants (pizzeria) or specialty dining venues (upcharge). Room service is always a viable option, as well. The less time spent in communal dining venues, the better.

OK Folks I foresee another small problem in our
war on the Cvirus.
Since CDC seems to be sweeping most of the testing back onto the individual state labs, we may have an upcoming problem in my state of Fl.
Fl. has appx 22 million residents. We have a total of 3 approved labs in the state to run tests.
A reporter just asked our Governor if the state is planning on setting up more local labs to expedite testing. Gov. answered, "No, you're
looking at that taking several months to do".

OK, 22 million people and if 60% of population gets the virus, that's 13 million tests to confirm.
With 3 labs that's 4.3 million tests per lab.
Over a 30 day period, if the virus explodes that would mean each lab has to handle 143,300 tests per day to keep up. Slow it down to a 60 day period and you still have 72,000 tests per day for each lab to run to keep up.

Can I volunteer to call my Gov. to see what he's smoking? Does this sound like adequate planning to
protect our residents as our leaders tell us?
Oh boy, are we in for problems.
someone please tell me I'm wrong or I won't be able to sleep till you tell me.
Crickets.....

Dr. Kevin Purcell

“There are 3 possibilities: Kids don’t get infected for some reason; they get infected but have a low expression of disease; they get infected and express disease like everyone else [...]. I think the first and last aren’t the reality. So it’s that middle group.”
Dr Kevin Purcell on Twitter

“We’ve got to get an antibody test [to test the population for antibodies to the virus] to know if kids are driving the epidemic and we just can’t see it.”

Talk about price gouging! I’m pretty sure I read somewhere that the government cost per test kit was approximately $5.
I know there’s a lot of “added costs” in between.... but I want to know what’s in between that puts the cost over 6k???

Just sayin....
(or more technically - just askin...)

I think facilities like this are charging to collect the test, and screen the patient, create a medical record. I don't think this is a billable test at this point, as it is all being sent out to the CDC and not performed in house, except for academic hospitals.

Well Congratulations Margarita!! Ole!

Thank you everyone.

I have a feeling it won’t only be overseas children before too long.

Demand for online teachers has just skyrocketed moo.

Working to contain outside of Milan...

(Reuters) - Italy is considering setting up a new quarantine red-zone near the northern city of Bergamo given the high number of coronavirus cases in the area, the head of the national health institute said on Tuesday.

The Italian government set up two red-zones on Feb. 22 -- one centered on 10 towns in the region of Lombardy, southeast of the country's financial capital Milan, and another, smaller one in the neighboring region of Veneto.

Since then, a growing number of cases have emerged near Bergamo, northeast of Milan. "We are considering the possibility of adopting a measure like this one," health chief Silvio Brusaferro said after being asked if a new red-zone might be created.

Nursing home in lockdown after carer, 50, is diagnosed with coronavirus exposing dozens of elderly residents to infection

A nursing home is in lockdown after a 50-year-old staff member contracted the deadly coronavirus disease.

The woman, who works at the nursing home in Macquarie Park in Sydney's north west, could have potentially exposed dozens of elderly residents to the infection.

The carer tested positive to COVID-19 late Tuesday night.

Yeah YOU!!!! Great to contribute, that's just brilliant.

Are you gonna do VIPKids? My family member does that one. Fab for you! (And since you are used to late night hours-which is required for the different time zone)

Perhaps more of us could do that too! I understand flexible hours and you sign up for hours you want?
