As I mentioned earlier, I’ve been “casually” bringing up this “CV situation” in my day to day conversations - not very many people have seemed concerned in my circles up to this point, but perhaps this will start to change. Again, I’m glad we’ve had each other here to talk to and help educate/prepare ourselves and each other.

One “interesting” response I got in a “casual interview” the other day: One guy said he is sure this is the beginning of the apocalypse and that’s he’s been stocking up on ammunition.

You can't trust all people who are told to voluntarily self-quarantine will do so. The same was happening with Ebola. Thankfully Ebola is much less infectious, and people who were asked to self-quarantine didn't actually have it.

I’m not following. Hell ya everyone should get the vaccine if it’s available. You seem to be implying this is a conspiracy on the part of the pharmaceutical industry. It’s not. Epidemics exist. Pandemics exist. What makes this one different?

The bottom line is health insurance companies bear the costs of ill people and they advocate vaccines like mad. Because they work.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Do you think it is a conspiracy that there are numerous decades worth of conflicts of interest in physicians’ financial relationship to pharmaceutical firms. These sometimes create incentives (for drug firms and their employees) that conflict with the development of knowledge, drug safety, the promotion of public health, and innovation.
One that knows anything about the pharmaceutical industry knows how they function. They have an agenda and that is to profit.
Two interesting books on the matter are the Truth about Drug Companies: How they deceive us and what to do about it
and also Bad Pharma: How Drug Companies Mislead Doctors and Harm Patients.

Pandemics and epidemics exist when The World Health Organization decides to acknowledge it is one or the other. I have read on a previous thread about individuals on the panel of the WHO that purposely will apply those terms and label things an epidemic because then they came gain billions in profit from governments who have to pay to help the cause.
I would agree with you except for one fact....this event began with the Chinese who love power and money more than any drug company....they saw something in this event to cause them to shut down their money making organization.....I believe it was the probability of massive deaths. In 3 months time, we will know in Europe and the US if that possibility exist.

And congrats to you!!! Those kids are blessed to have you! ;)

I have a feeling they’re going to be the ones educating me on resilience or whatever else the lessons may be. I will be sure to share.

Thank you, @SAMS.

A few days ago my partner was rolling his eyes when I mention the p-word. Today we had a serious conversation (no eye-rolling!) about what other supplies we should lay in.

When I was shopping at Walmart today, I didn't hear any coughing or sneezing so that was good! Hand sanitizers were gone and I bought the last gallon jug on generic bleach. So some people are starting to pay attention here in Colorado. Yesterday, when I was at Dollar Tree, a woman ran in asking for something (possibly hand sanitizers) and looked pretty frantic when she was told they were out. I heard her say something about the epidemic as she ran back out.

Every time I read something about a nasal swab, I think about @gitana1 saying it was like a QTip poking her brain lol

I was pretty shocked. But it’s better than dying. They can start pumping you full of antivirals or something.

That sucks. Man.
It does. But at least it is honest and transparent.
Hate to be an alarmist which is not my nature.
Thinking this will escalate and be with us until the summer.
Hope I am wrong.

Why don't they quarantine the the traveler returning to the city and let the ones who have already been quarantined out?

New report finds cases could have tripled in China if heavy restrictions were delayed

From Alexandra Lin and Isaac Yee in Hong Kong

China could have had three times as many coronavirus cases if it had delayed implementing strict quarantine measures by five days, according to a new study.

The report, lead by Chinese respiratory expert Dr. Zhong Nanshan and published February 28, said the finding was based on the use of a Susceptible-Exposed-Infectious-Removed (SEIR) epidemiological modeling.

According to the latest National Health Commission figures, mainland China has recorded 80,151 cases of the virus and 2,943 deaths.

The study concluded that the implementation and control measures on January 23 was "indispensable in reducing the eventual COVID-19 epidemic size."
Earlier action may have contained outbreak: Zhong and his team of experts also claimed that based on their model "had the interventions been introduced five days earlier, the epidemic peak should have been reached by February 15, and the final number of cases would not exceed 25,000."

Second peak prediction: But the study also warned that the easing of quarantine restrictions on Hubei province will allow “an influx of new susceptible individuals i.e., migrants returning from the Spring Festival holidays," leading to a "second epidemic peak in mid-March."

BNO Newsroom on Twitter

Los Angeles County will hold a press conference at 8:30 a.m. PT to make what they're calling "major announcements" about coronavirus. They'll outline actions they're taking and advice to the public.

@gitana1

Let’s see what OC does. I’m so worried. I’m claustrophobic. Isolating and not going in public is hard. But I’m worried about having to go to court.

Why March 8th? That's not long enough? Bad reporting?

Regarding the New Rochelle NY synagogue where the latest case attends:

"[Congregants] 'must self-quarantine until at the very earliest March 8. Those who do not self-quarantine will be mandated to by the County Department of Health to do so.'"

So, does the County Department of Health have any ways to enforce the mandate, check that it is followed?

Also concerning is the patient commutes for work via the MetroNorth (train) into Grand Central station in midtown Manhattan. How to even know who he came into contact with on commutes?

Coronavirus: New Rochelle synagogue ordered to halt services after man who attended services becomes ill

I called in a prescription refill for my 90 year old mother today, and received a message that they could only give half of they prescribed amount, and would give the rest when it became available.

Can you call the doctor and have them call some other pharmacies? Or maybe you call some other pharmacies, tell them the situation, see if they have it in stock, then call the doc and have them call it in over there? I’ve been on the phone with my doc and pharmacist for days. I finally got everything squared away but it took a lot of time, effort and phone calls.

Chile reports first coronavirus case
The patient is reportedly a 33-year-old man in the city of Talca, which is south of Santiago.

Spain reports first coronavirus death
The man lived in the region of Valencia, on the country's southeastern coast. Tests carried out after the man's death showed he had died from the disease.

Coronavirus death toll rises to 9 in Washington state

In the meantime, most of my family lives in Spain and a bunch of them are posting their videos and photos from Holy Week. Still masses of people crowded together on the streets watching the religious processions.
