Condoms are selling out as people put them on their fingers to avoid Coronavirus

As the Coronavirus outbreak continues around the world people are stocking up on a number of items - everything from toilet paper to condoms

Condoms are selling out as people put them on their fingers to avoid Coronavirus
They should just buy “finger cots.” They are essentially condoms for fingers. I keep them on hand to keep bandages dry and clean. I have eczema and frequently have deep splits in one or more fingers. They are located near the bandages in pharmacies. They roll onto your fingers like a condom and roll off the same way. A package has multiple sizes for all fingers and thumb.

Health officials: Plane passengers in Georgia virus case not at risk

Local health officials said the 56-year-old Fulton County man had traveled to Atlanta from Milan, Italy, on Feb. 22 and didn’t show symptoms of the disease until a few days after his flight.

They say screenings weren't done because the man wasn't showing symptoms at the time he landed in Atlanta.

I still like the "water jug" idea. No mask? No problem, covers eyes, ears, nose and mouth at once!

Can be worn this way, too!

If that's what concerns you, I assume you are not frequenting Italian restaurants either then?

In other words, there is a point to perhaps not going out in public to any restaurant due to community spread. I don't see a reason to just refuse to eat Chinese food.
BBM

Exactly @zecats. How do we know whether the cook or server at the local diner is contagious or not, especially in areas like Seattle. When it’s community spread no travel is necessary.

I don't see any reason to why people should avoid Chinese food in restaurants, as the produce the dishes are made of are from the country where the restaurant is situated. The fear of eating Chinese food outside of China for fear of catching the virus is totally illogical. I don't eat Chinese often, but the reason for me is that I'm a vegetarian and here in Sweden it's not easy to find vegetarian Chinese dishes, the only option is usually some variant of fried rice.

It's not the FOOD I'm worried about, but hands and sneezes.

The fear is if a worker in the kitchen is sick, rubs his/her nose or sneezes in the kitchen, and then serves food - or touches plates, silverwear, glasses, menus, etc. that customers then use.

I HATE THINKING LIKE THIS, btw. Truly. And, soon enough, with community spread, it could be workers in ANY restaurant who could spread the virus - the spread is not unique to Chinese restaurants.

I have gone completely off Chinese food because of this virus. As I said once the world is back to normal I’m sure I will have egg fried rice again at some stage but my stance is I won’t be eating it at the moment.

I have limited my take away consumption in the last few weeks to doing more home cooked meals because it does feel more reassuring to me but the only cuisine I have totally stopped eating is Chinese. I never ate it much before as it’s not a favorite of mine but I did enjoy a bowl of egg friend rice with soy sauce as a treat occasionally.

Deliveroo and Uber eats have certainly opened up new avenues for take away food but last year I got food poisoning twice within the space of 10 weeks and I had never had food poisoning before in 31 years on planet earth so I’m a lot more weary of ordering Take Away food now anyway so being forced to do home cooked meals is a blessing on the waistline and the purse.

I even said in my post it was not logical but I’m not alone in my thinking here and it’s one of those things.
Same here. And I'm willing to work through my concerns to be more logical....might take a bit to get there knowing international travel exists and community spread exists. I'm fighting my fears, believe me.

Indonesia Picks Island Near Singapore to Treat Virus Patients

Indonesia plans to build a hospital to treat people infected by the deadly coronavirus at Galang, an island in Riau province close to Singapore.

The facility will be constructed with the help of the army and will be run by the health ministry. The hospital, to be located about an hour away from Batam airport, will be more easily accessible than Sebaru Island near Jakarta, where about 250 evacuees from two cruise ships are currently quarantined.

Indonesia reported its first two cases of coronavirus infections on Monday. The two patients, being treated in a hospital in Jakarta, are stable.

China warns against virus transmission via contaminated excrement

Chinese health authorities warned in new guidelines that the novel coronavirus can be transmitted through contact with contaminated excrement and urine.

While respiratory droplets and close contact with infected individuals remain the main source of transmission, people could also contract the disease just by inhaling small virus-containing fecal particles floating in the air.

This is what started my concern about restaurants, bbm:

"...China has a new worry: that Chinese nationals returning home from trips overseas, or foreigners visiting the mainland, will bring the infection with them.

So far, there have been 15 confirmed imported cases, nearly half involving a group of Chinese people who worked at a restaurant in the northern Italian city of Bergamo"

China worries about new coronavirus surge from infected arrivals

They were cleared by the CDC after leaving a cruise ship, but now they're being harassed by people who wrongly think they have the coronavirus.

If you are having symptoms especially if they are mild, I would call your PCP and see what they advise. If you walk in somewhere this is when you should wear a mask. The worst thing you can do is go to your PCP, Urgent Care or ER and spread #COVID19 to other people.

Our local TV Investigative Reporter just did a
segment on Hepatitis and Tuberculosis in restaurant workers/cooks. It was scarey.
We want to think our state health depts. monitor this but apparently it's haphazard at best.

Hahaha...all of us....

I think I will end up with a month's worth of masks and 10 years' worth of hand sanitizers based on how my quest to stock up is going.

WOW. So public bathrooms are another potential source. Interesting.
