Large South Florida attractions take precautions to help protect people from virus

At Zoo Miami, they have set up stations to make sure people are cleaning their hands. “We have placed these hand sanitizers throughout the park. You just basically squeeze and rub your hands.”

The Miami-Dade Youth Fair is one of the largest events held every spring. Organizers said they will have nearly 600 hand sanitizing and washing stations, but they are asking anyone who feels sick to stay home until they are no longer showing any symptoms or finished a 14-day quarantine.

At the Frost Science Museum, the focus is on wiping down and cleaning all of their interactive exhibits every hour.

Coronavirus: there are 2 types, Chinese researchers find, while authorities say faeces and urine can transmit the infection

The coronavirus has evolved into two major types, with differing transmission rates and geographical distribution, according to a study published in the National Science Review on Tuesday.

A group of Chinese scientists analysed 103 coronavirus genomes and identified mutations in 149 sites across the strains.

They found that one type, which they called the L type, was more prevalent than the other, the S type, meaning it was more infectious. They also found that the L type had evolved from the S type, and that the L type was far more widespread before January 7 and in Wuhan, ground zero of the outbreak.

Coronavirus: there are 2 different types of the strain, Chinese study finds

How could this affect development of a vaccine? I imagine it makes development more difficult. Could scientists develop a vaccine the prevents both strains or would more than one vaccine be required? I’m hoping it would be like the flu vaccine and protects against three or four strains depending on the vaccine.

Good find, thanks Greg. I have RL this am, if no one finds the original source article before I get back, I'll go down the rabbit hole after lunch.

New York has its third case of Coronavirus. The son of the infected man from Westchester County. He is a college student at Yeshiva University who stayed at dorms. All classes at the Wilf campus in Manhattan have been cancelled for the day, as they figure out next steps.

One thing communities could do is install sinks with running water and soap in public places. Make it EASY and expected that people wash hands throughout the day.

This is huge.

An EU official has now been confirmed infected with Corona virus.

I earlier wrote that EU had canceled all meetings at their headquarters because of this. This was first reported by the BBC, but it appears to not be correct.

Health authorities are trying to figure out how a Westchester County lawyer who works in Manhattan contracted the novel coronavirus when he hasn't traveled to an area where the outbreak is widespread. They're also working to backtrack his movements to identify others potentially at risk, all as the city awaits test results for at least one another potential COVID-19 patient.

His son, a student at Yeshiva University in Manhattan, tested positive for COVID-19, the school said in a statement Wednesday. He had been symptomatic prior to his father's hospitalization. No details on the son's condition were immediately available. The school said it canceled all in-person graduate courses on the campus as well as the boys' high school. Read the full statement and guidance from Yeshiva University here.

New York City still has at least one test pending: the husband of a 39-year-old Manhattan woman who tested positive for coronavirus after a trip to Iran. She and her husband have been isolated in their Manhattan home since she flew back to the country early last week. Her symptoms have been described as mild, and authorities say she did not take mass transit while contagious. Both she and her husband are health care workers and acted accordingly to prevent additional spread, Cuomo previously said.

Cuomo also said two Buffalo families who traveled to northern Italy are under quarantine in their homes as they await the results of testing.

1/n We have window of opportunity to sharply alter trajectory of a U.S. #coronavirus epidemic by local officials taking forceful mitigation steps in areas of known outbreaks like Santa Clara, Washington State. Singapore, Italy, South Korea took bolder steps at similar juncture.

WOW. So public bathrooms are another potential source. Interesting.
Ugh. Guess we'll all be holding it longer on road trips. JMO

What if the best pizza in town is owned and prepared by a Chinese family.

Where should the racism extend once the 'complexion' of COVID-19 changes?
