"This is serious. I’m currently digging a moat around my house and filling it with Purell."

gotta find my shovel....

It is deeply concerning and distressing to see one’s own community, one’s own neighbors, dealing with a challenge of this scale and this intensity,” said Mayor Noam Bramson of New Rochelle, where over 100 families are under a self-quarantine order

I have decided not to eat out or order takeaways
for the next few weeks until it becomes clearer how it is spreading.
Think I will use the money saved to buy wine.

Sounds like a good plan to me :D Cheers!

11:10 a.m. California universities cancel some study abroad programs: Hundreds of students are returning home early because of coronavirus outbreaks. The University of California and California State University, which both run systemwide programs, canceled their China semesters in January. Within the last week, both schools ended programs in South Korea and Italy; Stanford University also withdrew its Florence program. UC is telling students to book flights back and Cal State is working with families. Students are encouraged to follow CDC advice to home quarantine for 14 days. They’ll continue studies online.

All school-related activities will also be canceled and officials plan to give the entire campus a “deep clean.”

They could touch your plate, your menu, your chair, the pen to sign your credit card bill.

If someone has the virus, they shouldn't be in a restaurant kitchen or dining room, regardless of how hot the food is cooked.

That goes for ANY restaurant, of course, not just Chinese places. And I know that restaurant managers and owners take that seriously....but also understand that people's appetites for restaurants might be "off" for awhile.

Not easy times. :(

I am more concerned about the waitstaff than the cooks to be honest. I was a waitress for many years and can (unfortunately) attest to knowing there can be some shady hygienic practices that go on....

Let’s just say, at some places you can’t guarantee the bread in your basket wasn’t left over from the last table...

Coronavirus: pet dog belonging to Covid-19 patient infected, Hong Kong health authorities confirm

Hong Kong health authorities confirmed on Wednesday that a pet dog belonging to a Covid-19 patient had contracted the coronavirus, with experts calling it a “low-level infection” that was likely to be the first reported case of human-to-animal transmission of the disease.

  • But experts also cite previous experience with Sars suggesting cats and dogs will not fall sick or transmit virus to people

Former waitress myself. If the place serves syrup in a little metal pitcher they bring to your table, how many other tables has it been on before yours, and how many hands have touched it?

Think about the chips in the basket and the salsa in the carafe.

And salad bars and buffets are the worst of all. How many people touch the tongs and serving spoons? How many of them might have forgotten to wash their hands after using the restroom?
