I think the younger people may be some of the super spreaders because they don’t take it seriously perhaps as some of the older folks, therefore may not be as diligent about washing hands and “respiratory etiquette”, moo. They also may be with ones with milder symptoms and/or perhaps more inclined to be asymtomatic? Any confirmation or reports on this?

This is very sad and unfortunate, besides now almost anybody could have cv, imo.ibm.
Vietnamese curator dropped because of 'coronavirus prejudice'
''Email from exhibitor at UK art fair says ‘fairly or not, Asians are being seen as carriers of virus’

A Vietnamese curator has been dropped by an exhibitor at a UK art fair because she would be “seen as carrying the virus”, it emerged on Thursday, as England’s chief medical officer warned against the vilification of those feared to have the infection.

An Nguyen posted a screenshot on social media of an email she received from R A a dealer and curator specialising in contemporary Vietnamese fine art, cancelling her role as an assistant for the exhibit at the Affordable Art Fair (AFF) “because your presence on the stand would unfortunately create hesitation”.

The organisers of the event, which is due to take place in Battersea, south-west London, next week, stressed that the email was not sent by them and that they did not condone its contents. The AFF said on Thursday evening that it had spoken to Azran gallery and that she would no longer be exhibiting.

“I am very sorry to have to cancel your assistance at the fair next week,” Azran wrote to Nguyen. “The coronavirus is causing much anxiety everywhere, and fairly or not, Asians are being seen as carriers of the virus.

“Your presence on the stand would unfortunately create hesitation on the part of the audience to enter the exhibition space. I apologise for this and hope we can meet and perhaps work together in future.”

Just read this

Governor Mike Parson on Twitter
ZERO confirmed cases
• Nearly 17 people have been tested
• Testing CAN be done in Missouri
• Prisons, nursing homes & mental health facilities are a concern
• Schools are always a concern, but young people to not appear to be as prone #COVID19

needless to say, the media and others are having a field day... “nearly 17?” Like almost another person? Half a person? IDK I’m so tired of this rn. Seems the leaders of this wonderful country are avoiding telling truths to avoid a panic that is being caused by the non-truths!

I need to take a time out. MOO
I'm with you....I'm guessing the escalation in cases over the next 2 weeks will be the turning point..like China....

Speaking of prisons, there was an article way upstream where Iran released 54,0oo prisoners due to Covid, iirc. Need to supply link, maybe someone remembers that.

Anyway, they better not release the prisoners here MOO. Sorry that sounds crappy, but no way people like Chris Watts, Patrick Frazee, James Holmes, Austin Reed Sigg and other bottom feeders should get out. I don’t care what state they’re in. No way that would happen I don’t think. Just a random musing.

I find this somewhat slanted to proprietary products, as if Clorox Co made a special effort to get all their branded products "tested" as if they own a patent on bleach.

Yet generic BLEACH is exactly the same as about 30% of those Clorox branded products.

You are exactly correct. Their regulatory/science/marketing department paid lots of money to make sure that the product was federally registered to get that EPA claim that they have as far as killing.

But everybody that has two peas in their brain and folks here knows that any sodium hypochlorite bleach at the same concentration % can do the exact same thing. They just are not allowed to show it on their label because the Clorox people paid money to the EPA and did the test to be able to say that.

Not MOO, a fact.

To clarify (as others have) this is not Seattle Public Schools that have closed but the Northshore School District in Bothell, WA a town outside Seattle.
The school district straddles the King Co and Snohomish Co line.
Seattle Public Schools have not closed any schools, so far.

Exactly. I got an email a couple of days ago telling me *not* to go to the ER or my doctor's office if I have symptoms. It said to first call the Health Department.

I'm having some lingering effects from what I believe was a mild case of flu (I've had the flu shot) and while I'm not ready to call my doctor I absolutely would not go and sit in his waiting room with other sick people.

Interestingly, I got this email from Medicare today:

Your Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers a test to see if you have Coronavirus. This test is covered when your doctor or a health care provider orders it, if you get the test on or after February 4, 2020. You usually pay nothing for Medicare-covered clinical diagnostic laboratory tests.
I got the same Medicare email. But,the last sentence says "See your Doctor if you think you're ill."

I think Boomer Bashing and overall disrespect for older people is raising it's ugly head everywhere and this will be one area that is going to be difficult to control in the COVID-9 "unpandemic"

The person at our university who is in charge of the coronavirus-19 task force for planning and implementation was really anxious about the situation at first, but then as the statistics came out that showed a lower risk percentage rate for her age group (45), she is now not as worried about it, saying that only the senior faculty and staff are really the only ones at risk for severe impact of covid-19. What amazed me was my sense of a real disregard for people of a generation or more older than her. The empathy just didn't seem to be there. Someone on one of the you-tubes with a link on this thread said something to the effect that the very definition of civilization is to care for the vulnerable. I share that view.

Pretty stark statement from a Kaiser nurse in NorCal who got sick after caring for a coronavirus patient, criticizing CDC for delays in testing. act.nationalnursesunited.org/page/-/files/g…

From the CDC site:

For disinfection, diluted household bleach solutions, alcohol solutions with at least 70% alcohol, and most common EPA-registered household disinfectants should be effective.
  • Diluted household bleach solutions can be used if appropriate for the surface. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for application and proper ventilation. Check to ensure the product is not past its expiration date. Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleanser. Unexpired household bleach will be effective against coronaviruses when properly diluted.
    • Prepare a bleach solution by mixing:
      • 5 tablespoons (1/3rd cup) bleach per gallon of water or
      • 4 teaspoons bleach per quart of water
Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19)

Household bleach is about as cheap a cleaner as you can get.

Honestly I'm surprised it's taken this long...those slot machines and casinos seem like they would be petri dishes.

Yes and so many tourists.

Local news announced that one of the highest risks for contamination is gyms because everyone shares the same equipment. Gyms typically clean equipment twice a day, and are now increasing that to cleaning after single use, but still that seems questionable.

I was at the self-checkout at the grocery store on the weekend and the interface was not cleaned between every use, more like ever 3-4 people. It seemed like the employee decided that was good enough. Cleaning between use is new - haven't seen that before.
Ugh. This gym news is not surprising, but it is not what I want to hear. I go to the gym at least 5 x/week and it keeps me sane. I wipe down machines and weights before I use them as well as after (the gym has cleaning solution available but I don't use that stuff...I use either Purell from their hand sanitizing stations or I use my own Clorox wipes that I always have in my gym bag). I also bring my own mat...those things are nasty and never get cleaned.

Can I just vent and be done with it, lol. Get this off my chest so I can get it over with and move on lol:

This sucks. I don’t know how else to put it. I am NOT a Debbie Downer or Negative Nellie, but I am a realist.

Ok. End rant. Thanks for listening. :D

Iran coronavirus: Bodies 'pileup' in morgue as country feels strain of coronavirus - CNN

Dozens of bodies sheathed in black bags line the floor of an Iranian morgue, while workers in protective suits and masks busily walk among them.

It's unclear which, if any, of the people whose bodies lie in the morgue were infected with the coronavirus gripping the country, in this footage from inside Qom's Behesht-e Masoumeh morgue.

Under Islamic tradition in Iran, corpses are typically washed with soap and water before burial. But two medical workers in Qom said that in some cases precautions related to the outbreak are preventing staff from observing traditional Islamic guidelines for burial.

Instead, they said the bodies of those confirmed to have coronavirus at the time of death are being treated with calcium oxide, to prevent them from contaminating the soil once buried in cemeteries.

Testing for the virus takes time, delaying burials and creating a "pile up" of bodies at the morgue, said Behesht-e Masoumeh morgue director, Ali Ramezani, in a report on Iranian state TV, IRIB.

This is very tragic. In Wuhan, many children were not able to bury their parents or grandparents. They had to be cremated so quickly, and one person interviewed expressed his deep sadness that he wasn't able to honor his grandmother with more dignity, but he understood the public health risks, in spite of his sadness. In China, filial piety is very strong, as are the Islamic rituals for the preparation and burial. Prayers for our fellow global citizens in China and Iran, and in other covid-19 hot spots around the world, including here at home.

One of the 3 conventions cancelled for Orange county Convention Center (Orlando,FL) was a large
Health Organization of 45,000 attendees and
President Trump was the special guest speaker.
Wonder who cancelled first, the group or Trump?
I wonder if they will ever close Disney, so many visitors from everywhere. It seems like a place where it could spread like mad.

They are nasty. I attend physio twice a week at a university sports med clinic - lots of elite athletes who are so healthy that they don't care about viruses. Volunteers spray down the beds between use, but they are not properly cleaned, and the equipment is never wiped down. Even the physiotherapists come to work sick - I walked out of an appointment 2 weeks ago because of the coughing. I'm thinking about how to discuss virtual appointments with my physiotherapist.
