I haven't posted today. I didn't even want to look, or see any news.
Had to go to the doctor for a refill of a prescription, and to get my blood drawn. Sign on the door with instructions if you've traveled to affected areas (China, S Korea, Italy etc)
Inside, no one was wearing gloves nor masks, no one seemed concerned. Just a bottle of sanitizer on the counter.
So I felt, well this is all ok....maybe I was over reacting.
(We as yet have no cases in my immediate area of the coast near LA)

Then I went to Ralphs for some groceries......no TP at all, no kleenex, no wipes of course, no alcohol, and little water left. Empty shelves. Two days ago there was plenty of everything except hand sanitizer.

I've caught up on the last pages and checked the news.....now I'm back to reality and freaked out.

Plus...I HAD to look at my financial portfolio (my retirement) since I had to print out tax forms.
I've avoided looking at all in the last 3 weeks.
omg !!!!

LOL, scooting your 🤬🤬🤬 on the grass?
A program on TV showed how thrifty minded individuals saved money on certain items. One lady had her family use old wash rags to wipe themselves after using the toilet. She said she saved tons of money by not buying toilet papers for the family.

Wonder how many tests were done on the passengers and crew of the Grand Princess. I guess we'll get the answer tomorrow as they are going to test them after they collect and fly them back to the mainland to test in CA.

WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said Thursday that although public health authorities across the globe have the ability to successfully combat the spread of the virus, the organization is concerned that in some countries, the level of political commitment does not match the threat level.

"This is not a drill. This is not the time to give up. This is not a time for excuses. This is a time for pulling out all the stops. Countries have been planning for scenarios like this for decades. Now is the time to act on those plans," Tedros said.

"This epidemic can be pushed back, but only with a collective, coordinated and comprehensive approach that engages the entire machinery of government."

Cases approach 100,000: To date, a total of 97,852 infections have been confirmed worldwide, and more than 3,300 people have been killed by the virus, according to CNN's tally.

They do not trust the CDC or WHO or any scientist but they do trust Trump who is NOT an expert or doctor.

Bottom line most corporations only see profit over people. They don't want to lose any $$$. If a few 100 (or even thousands) people die oh, well...that;s the attitude I'm seeing regarding cancelling concerts, music fests. The show must go on, don' worry only old and the weak people die not cool hipsters.
Then they should listen when the prez has said he trusts the CDC, NIH, and scientists and doctors :) The CDC has had it's issues going back well before the current administration, but there certainly excellent, valuable people and resources there. I'm sometimes a bit wary of W.H.O., but again, there are resources there.

No, I couldn’t believe some of the things she did to save money. One gentleman allotted his family 3 squares of toilet paper per use. If l remember correctly his older kids mentioned he separated the two pile rolls first before the 3 square toilet paper allotment.

Remember Cheryl Crowe preaching to use just one sheet?

Sheryl Crow's view on toilet paper: one sheet a visit

According to Crow's new strictures, the average person should use "only one square per restroom visit, except, of course, on those pesky occasions where two to three could be required". Further details were not offered as to the precise nature of these "pesky occasions", though "we are an industrious enough people that we can make it work", she insists.

The "S" type is older and seems to be milder, while the newer, more prevalent "L" type is more aggressive.

if we find out one day its man made and escaped from a lab i really wouldn't be suprised at all

“Samples were collected Thursday from 45 people (guests and team members) on the Grand Princess cruise ship. The samples were delivered to the California Department of Public Health in #Richmond for processing.”
Twitter

And apparently they are considering keeping the passengers quarantined in San Francisco if need be (keep reading through that KRON4 twitter thread)

For those of you concerned about the economics of this.
One of the reasons large companies are cancelling their big events, is because their insurance companies are refusing to cover them if someone gets the COVID-19 from attending their event.
So, if an attendee picked up the virus via, plane, train, or automobile, or someone at the event... the company will be responsible for any lawsuits stemming from their event.
I cannot tell you how huge and disruptive this is.
The only thing I can think of is that EVERYONE, attending an event, would be made to sign iron clad agreements, that they promise to not sue if they get sick.
***I personally am signed up to attend a large food show next Wednesday, hosted by a very large nationwide Wholesale food vendor.
In San Diego, Ca.
I have no idea if it will be cancelled.
Preparing iron clad agreements by lawyers, then getting big corporations to agree to them, takes time.
We'll see. My bet is that this event and thousands of others will be cancelled.
THIS is very bad news for millions in the hospitality and travel industries.
As well as the cities who depend on tourism to fill their coffers.
In my opinion, this scenario is worse then the virus itself.

The bad news is just rolling in tonight:

“DETAILS: Three Grand Princess cruise ship passengers, who were on board with the elderly man who died, visited the senior center over the past few weeks to help with the lunch program.”

San Bruno senior center closes due to possible exposure.

@KRON4news

Hopefully any exposure to the virus those 3 people had occurred after they helped out at the senior center. The timeline is a little confusing.

I have NOT looked at our retirement statements, and will not. That could do me in faster than perhaps contracting Covid19...

My understanding is that the 3 men who helped out at the senior center were exposed to the virus before they went to the senior center.

I believe they were passengers on the cruise (that already disembarked) which included the individuals who now have confirmed cases.

The current passengers currently marooned off the coast of SF are passengers who boarded the ship after the first group disembarked.

It’s confusing- it’s one ship, the Grand Princess, but 2 sets of passengers.

All from that 1 attorney?!? I know they self-quarantined 1,000 people in the area all because of that one patient.

Hubs was to attend a big IT conference in the San Jose area in 2 weeks, but it's been postponed until later in the fall. Makes sense, its the considerate thing to do. These venues probably have insurance to cover them for cancellations like this. IANAL, but it probably falls under an "act of god" clause or something similar. I'm just not that worried about what this will do to big businesses, more concerned about people, workers.

I think what confused me most is the article saying those 3 possibly exposed people had helped at the senior center in previous weeks, while I thought those exposed and possibly exposed had been on the cruise ship in the last 2-4 weeks. I'm glad the senior center closed for the time being and contact tracking is making headway.

Quite shocking, actually, that the ship was not properly cleaned between guests and now people who left the virus behind have now infected new guests. It seems highly contagious.
