Donald Trump says virus will "go away"

“You have to be calm,” he said, at the White House this morning before departing to tour the tornado damage in Tennessee and just after signing an $8.3 billion emergency spending bill to deal with the virus.

“It will go away,” he said. “We have very low numbers [of confirmed cases] compared to many countries throughout the world, our numbers are lower than almost anyone...deaths, is it 11?” It is.

“In terms of cases, it’s very very few because we have been very strong at the borders.”

He also said he thinks the financial markets will “really bounce back” from the see-sawing of recent days over concerns that the virus is spreading and on governments’ abilities to contain it.

“This came unexpectedly, it came out of China, we closed it down, we stopped it, it was a very early shut down,” he added.

There has been no official evidence provided to date that the novel coronavirus illness COVID-19 has been “shut down” in the US.

Please, we have low numbers because we don't have any test kits. How stupid does he think the American public is.

From the article:

But Trump said that he shakes everybody's hand. "They're people that I love and people that I want to take care of."

Ummmmmm...then don’t shake their hands! You are minimizing the danger when you do and say the opposite of recommendations of your “team.”

Politicians kiss babies, too ;)

A fifth patient has died from Covid-19 in Spain as the number of people infected with coronavirus jumped overnight by 102 cases to 365.

All the victims so far have been people in high-risk categories, elderly or suffering from a pre-existing condition.

Madrid and the surrounding area has the highest concentration of cases, at 137, after health officials found clusters at two elderly care centres. Both have since been closed.

Spain reported its first Covid-19 death on Tuesday, although the victim had died weeks earlier, on 13 February, with the illness only diagnosed as a result of a post-mortem examination.

So I finally managed to buy some hand sanitiser today.

In central London Boots have resorted to selling it behind the counter due to people just stealing them when they realised you could only get 2 per customer which is absolutely pathetic.

Second case of coronavirus confirmed in North Carolina

a person from Chatham County has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

State health officials say the person traveled to Italy in late February to an area in Italy that has a COVID-19 outbreak.

Chatham County health officials visited the patient's home to collect specimens, which came back positive on Thursday night. State health officials say he is in home isolation until follow-up tests come back negative. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will identify those on the flight with the man from Italy who might be at risk and notify public health officials in those areas.

The first confirmed case was in Wake County.

Trump's visit to the CDC is back on

President Trump's visit to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention — which was canceled earlier today — is now back on and scheduled for this afternoon.

There will "probably be a tour" when asked what would be on the itinerary.

A CDC member was suspected to have contracted coronavirus and they did not think they would get the test results in time before the President's trip so "out of an abundance of caution", it was postponed for the safety of everyone involved and to allow the CDC to prevent any further spread.

I’m glad to see the president visiting Tennessee. There were 24 people killed including 5 children under 13. There are countless homes destroyed. He’s dressed casually, that’s what previous administrations have done when visiting disaster areas.

Yes, you are correct, I jumped the "snarky" shark with my comment. I will go delete. My apologies.

Oh really, I wasn’t the first to mention it here. ;)
It's easy to get off track - glad to have the reminder about the tornado thread on WS. WSers are great at weather watching!

I hope the people hit by the tornado receive the assistance they need to recover from the damage.

All shops should have been doing this the past few weeks to stop the bulk buying.

A friend of mine is currently hospitalized and being tested in Indiana. Has to wait for the results from the CDC. He is extremely ill and has diabetes that causes him constant issues as it is. I’m very worried about him.
So sad for you.
Until this plague starts hitting more people personally, many will not take it seriously.
Then the real concern sets in. As it has for you, unfortunately.
