All shops should have been doing this the past few weeks to stop the bulk buying.

I just re-read your post and yes I agree. I still can not get any locally to where I live and neither can my friends or family. It seems like they are keeping the big branches in central London stocked though. The staff and the people queuing were not happy about the situation because it just causes masses queues around the shop and delays things. But at least I finally have 6 sanitizers for me and my mum and dad and don’t have to stress now.

ETA- I didn’t get all 6 in the same Boots I just went to multiple boots on Oxford street and stocked up as my parents need some as well.

I’m not sure about the reporting in that article because it says there are 100,000 deaths globally.

Consider that Greg is continuing to post Daily Mail articles which are MOO not the place for us to get accurate information as has been show time and time again, to show us what many people in the UK are reading and believe.

Many here perhaps view the postings that way, and view with amazement that people believe such. But, they do.

And as part of our wide and well rounded understanding here on the threads of the disease, that we understand the bullchit that media is putting out on purpose with dramatic/incorrect/misleading headlines often for clicks and sales.... and to better understand what we are up against when talking to friends and family as that is all they see vs. what we discuss here.

All MOO.

ETA: Not to say that all DM are bullchit as some have great information! Just some.. we need to be critical as usual in reading and I appreciate Greg's posts of all he does.

Yes, travel. He said he was recently on 3 airplanes, although he didn’t say where from.

Wishing him a speedy recovery!

And thank you.

Well, and my allergies sometimes lead to bronchitis, although for me it’s usually the late summer/fall thing that does it to me. I get reassured by docs one week that it’s allergies only to have them diagnose bronchitis or even walking pneumonia the next week. I was told that the irritation from the allergies opens me up to infection.

Re the bolded statement, I often develop bronchitis and/or asthma along with bad colds or flu, so am hoping to avoid respiratory infections of any kind. My fear is that a preexisting infection would make COVID-19 very dangerous for me--plus I'm over 70 . . .

Second case of coronavirus confirmed in North Carolina

a person from Chatham County has tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

State health officials say the person traveled to Italy in late February to an area in Italy that has a COVID-19 outbreak.

Chatham County health officials visited the patient's home to collect specimens, which came back positive on Thursday night. State health officials say he is in home isolation until follow-up tests come back negative. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will identify those on the flight with the man from Italy who might be at risk and notify public health officials in those areas.

The first confirmed case was in Wake County.

Everyone has their own method. I use rubbing alcohol, aloe vera gel and sometimes I add in a few drops of tea tree oil. Even without the tea tree oil, this is effective, in my opinion. JMO

Dr. Helmenstine demonstrates how to make your own hand sanitizer:

The Easy Way to Make Homemade Hand Sanitizer

How It Works
The active ingredient in this hand sanitizer recipe is the alcohol, which needs to comprise at least 60% of the product in order to be an effective disinfectant.
  • 2/3 cup 99% rubbing alcohol
  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
  • Optional: 8-10 drops essential oil for smell
  • Bowl and spoon
  • Funnel
  • Empty liquid soap or hand sanitizer bottle
  • Optional: Gloves

Next WHO presser is Monday. The laughed at the end and they said they are going to have a long weekend, and not have a presser on Saturday this week.

Be well Drs Mike/Tedros/Maria!

WHO: "This is not a drill. This is not the time to give up. This is not a time for excuses. This is a time for pulling out all the stops. Countries have been planning for scenarios like this for decades. Now is the time to act on those plans," Tedros said.

Countries have been planning? Not us, apparently.

The US: the administration (2018) announced proposed cuts that would reduce CDC funding by 16 percent and slashed 3 billion for global health programs. 2018, the National Security pandemic director left, then his entire team was disbanded. The administration has yet to refill any of those positions.

I've seen this virus referred to as a "Lower Respiratory" Infection as compared to our normal winter viruses are usually called "upper
respiratory". Could this be why it's so much more deadly? That it establishes deeper in the lungs and is harder to eradicate. ??
