I may have not shown my absolute shock in my previous posts about the benefit to the world if the WHO would only declare this pandemic a "pandemic". I cannot understand why they will not do this. I really can't.

We need this to happen now:

I hope so I don’t have particularly kind words for this woman who gave her first press conference about this virus comparing it to the flu and telling people it wasn’t as serious.

It’s people like her touting this kind of “expert advice” from a podium that are helping to create a mess.

She absolutely should be mortified. Her job is to help guide her jurisdiction public during this pandemic.

In the beginning WHO said a pandemic is if an outbreak occurs on 2 continents.

Then when it was in every continent except Antarctica, they changed it to this. Tsk. Tsk.

In case it's still not obvious to some #justtheflu bros, the biggest concern for #COVID19 is probably not the fatality rate, it is how quickly a flood of new severe cases could completely overwhelm our healthcare system, as what has happened in Wuhan, Daegu and Lombardy now. /1

I saw this on the last thread and had to address. In no way, shape or form is this a thing from Southern Europe (using the left hand to clean oneself and only eating with the right). Southern Europe includes Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Greece. These are advanced nations with a normal understanding of hygiene.

The left hand right hand stuff goes on in India, Africa and the Middle East.

I've seen this virus referred to as a "Lower Respiratory" Infection as compared to our normal winter viruses are usually called "upper
respiratory". Could this be why it's so much more deadly? That it establishes deeper in the lungs and is harder to eradicate. ??

Yes, I think that's correct. COVID-19 apparently attacks the lungs and causes pneumonia in susceptible people (such as older folks and those with preexisting conditions), which can lead to hospitalization, the need for life support, and death. MOO

Over the last day there have been 2 sentinel #COVID19 events in Canada:
1. Possible community transmission in BC, in a person without an obvious travel/contact history.
2. Imported infection acquired in USA.
We are likely see a greater pace of new infections in the country.

I’m glad to see the president visiting Tennessee. There were 24 people killed including 5 children under 13. There are countless homes destroyed. He’s dressed casually, that’s what previous administrations have done when visiting disaster areas.

OT Rant

I rarely post. I can’t even begin to count how many OT posts Ive read just on the Covid-19 threads. I don’t mind them at all. It’s a way for people to vent or bring levity to a serious situation. I try to put an OT at the beginning of my post if I think I’m going way off course. I saw the tornado mentioned before so I didn’t think I was that far off course of what you all were discussing.

I don’t think it’s fair to have one side voiced and not the other in regards to political comments and I DO NOT want to alert on them even though I know that’s what I’m supposed to do, I understand the frustration. I have a little more trouble sitting on my hands. I can only sit so much and they go numb, but that’s my problem. LOL

Yes, the virus attaches to the cells primarily in the respiratory system that have ACE-2 receptors. Those are way down in the lungs vs. in the nose/throat. That is why scientific articles are coming out saying sputum is best as it brings up mucus from further down, and why WHO says the negatives to positives to negative may actually be due to not obtaining good sample. That was only one reason she gave. (additionally today she said the later positives could be shedding of non infective remnants, further studies are needed)

A friend of mine is currently hospitalized and being tested in Indiana. Has to wait for the results from the CDC. He is extremely ill and has diabetes that causes him constant issues as it is. I’m very worried about him.

The person is now isolated at Community Hospital North in Marion County.

My husband texted me a few hours ago. An electrical contractor came in for supplies for the COVID-19 response office in our area. Ohio is monitoring 225 people and 3 people are under investigation at this time. There hasn't been a panic in our small town so I'm glad to hear it's being taken seriously. It isn't public knowledge that this office is being set up so I'm hoping a lot of behind the scene preparedness is going on throughout the country and we just aren't aware of it.
