OT Rant

I rarely post. I can’t even begin to count how many OT posts Ive read just on the Covid-19 threads. I don’t mind them at all. It’s a way for people to vent or bring levity to a serious situation. I try to put an OT at the beginning of my post if I think I’m going way off course. I saw the tornado mentioned before so I didn’t think I was that far off course of what you all were discussing.

I don’t think it’s fair to have one side voiced and not the other in regards to political comments and I DO NOT want to alert on them even though I know that’s what I’m supposed to do, I understand the frustration. I have a little more trouble sitting on my hands. I can only sit so much and they go numb, but that’s my problem. LOL

I agree with you. Fair is fair. I welcome your opinion even though I know we don’t share the same political beliefs. IMO we need to be able to have polite discourse and no censorship when we are discussing this important issue if we are going to be discussing the political side of it.

The ONLY thing I think should be censored is actual misinformation that can harm people. But otherwise everyone should have an equal say on these threads.

And let me say I am not at all a fan of the leader of this country but I think the decision not to visit the CDC was a smart one. Let them work.

Not every single thing in life is black and white or good and bad just depending on which side of the aisle one prefers. We have to be able to use logic and be able to consider all perspectives.

National Economic Council Director Larry Kudlow said Friday that the White House is considering small “timely and targeted micro forms of assistance” for Americans impacted by the novel coronavirus.

“The news I was trying to put out this morning is we’re not looking at these massive, federal, throw money at people plans. We are looking at timely and targeted (efforts) where we can do the most good,” Kudlow said.
Kudlow did not offer many more details, saying he’d give “more details later.”

Kudlow also said the administration has been looking into “operations that would provide immediate cash assistance” through a variety of federal agencies.

Talking about the dip in the market due to the coronavirus, Kudlow said the administration was considering those “micro forms of assistance” because “we think we will get out of this, within months.”

Asked for his message to Americans who may have to miss multiple paychecks due to illness or quarantine, Kudlow plainly said, “We will help them.”

I heard this from a coworker walking in this morning. He's from PA and told me. I couldn't find confirmation on it, so thanks for link. Bucks County, btw is in between Philly and The Poconos (mountain and tourist area) distance wise. Many there drive or take the trains to Philly for employment.

Yes! We are about a 2-hr. drive into NYC and a 1-1/2 hour drive to Philly and it's about 1-1/2 hours' drive to the Poconos. There are train stations right here where I live to take commuters into Philly, and we're not too far from Trenton, NJ where one can catch the train into NYC. Many folks who work in NYC live in Bucks County (Yardley/Newtown) as it's much less expensive to live in Bucks vs. N. NJ or NY.

RENO, Nev. (KOLO)-- A man in Washoe County has a presumptive test of the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Washoe County District Health Department announced Thursday night.

The test has been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation.

The district described him as a man in his 50s who was linked to the Grand Princess cruise ship outbreak.

His condition is stable and he is isolating himself at home, the health department said.

The man has a family member who is a student at Huffaker Elementary School in Reno. There are no confirmed cases at Huffaker Elementary School, the health department said. Huffaker Elementary School is closed Friday because of a high number of flu-like cases there. It described the risk to the public as low at this time.

“The Health District’s top priority right now is to investigate this case and identify close contacts,” Kevin Dick, district health officer, said in a statement. “Our staff is working with the school district to help ensure safety for students and faculty at Huffaker, as well as the community. Additional information will be released as we learn more.”

My husband texted me a few hours ago. An electrical contractor came in for supplies for the COVID-19 response office in our area. Ohio is monitoring 225 people and 3 people are under investigation at this time. There hasn't been a panic in our small town so I'm glad to hear it's being taken seriously. It isn't public knowledge that this office is being set up so I'm hoping a lot of behind the scene preparedness is going on throughout the country and we just aren't aware of it.

Yes, quite a bit is definitely happening behind the scenes. Believe it or not, the government is on top of this situation.

I've actually enjoyed veering OT on occasion on this thread. I feel like I've gotten to know some of my favorite WSers even better. But I know that's not what we're supposed to do and I do honestly try my best to respect the rules.

Chinese province reports 17 new coronavirus infections imported from Iran

The northwestern Chinese province of Gansu has confirmed 17 new coronavirus cases imported from Iran, bringing the total imported cases to 28, the province's health authorities said late on Friday.

The 17 new patients were among quarantined passengers who entered the provincial capital of Lanzhou on commercial flights from Iran between March 2 and March 5, the Gansu Health Commission said in a statement on its website.

Before the new cases, Gansu had reported 11 imported infections from Iran. A total of 283 passengers arriving from Iran are currently under quarantine, it said.

I hear you. I live in South Jersey and head into Philly frequently. This weekend for the Flower Show. And I drive to Hamilton Station all the time to take NJ Transit to NYC area when visiting my kids and grandkids.

The diagnosed case in Delaware County is actually even closer to my area. Feels like it's creeping ever closer.

Indiana reports its first presumptive coronavirus case

The individual traveled to Boston and was exposed during that trip, according to officials. They are calling this case an isolated case.

The person is now isolated at Community Hospital North in Marion County.
