Running abated now, disguised as the seasonal flu, etc for the really sick and a bad cold for the kids and not so ill.

Another consideration is co-infection. Example: If someone is sick, and flu test was positive, the health department would not go further. The person has the flu

Counterpoint - David Abel who we follow, was tested by Chinese and stated that he was infected with BOTH the flu and COVID-19.

Something to think about......

Pence, Rubio and Scott in Florida to meet w/
Cruise Line Executives.
Hope they're not giving away any of the 8.3 billion.
What have they done today to help the little people?
Mike Pence to Work With Cruise Executives on Addressing Spread of Coronavirus
This is EXACTLY what I worry about.

They should all be meeting in a regular old conference room at the CDC in Atlanta so that MEDICAL EXPERTS, VIROLOGISTS, EPIDEMIOLOGISTS,and other SCIENTISTS do the talking, not politicians.

The Cruise Industry needs the CDC. CDC does not need them.

This is the wrong message to be giving right now. It says the politicians are worried about the Cruise Business. It's very very poor optics

BBC has a scathing perspective on virus management, or lack thereof, and mixed messaging about the virus, in the US. Messaging has been that people with mild cases of the virus should continue to go to work, and that the virus will disappear on its own in the Summer.

They mention 28 million without insurance and 11 million undocumented illegal immigrants who are afraid to seek medical treatment. They speculate that the virus will expose the weakness in the health system.

Yes. When our leadership makes statements as we have seen, even though they aren’t directly stating:

“The virus is a hoax.”
“You can go to work with this.”
“It’s going to disappear with the hot weather.”

...that’s what some people are hearing. And I unfortunately think it’s intentional, to either not slow the economy or to not cause people to panic, or both.

The problem is we need clear messages from all tiers of government that:

1. This is serious but we can handle it.
2. Everyone has a duty to practice good hygiene, wash their hands thoroughly and cover their mouths and noses when they sneeze.
3. Everyone must stay home when they’re sick in order to stop the spread, even if they think it’s just a cold.
4. The elderly and those with chronic conditions need to take special precautions and consider avoiding crowds and travel for a while if they can.
5. There will be NO cost to getting tested.
6. We have enough test kits to test every American that needs to be tested.
7. We are advocating vigorous testing, tallying and investigating so that we know exactly how widespread this is and can work on containment.
8. Containment is possible if everyone cooperates.
9. We are putting every resource available into developing a vaccine.
10. We are going to come out of this strong and wiser.

This isn’t the clear message we are getting. But it’s badly needed.

What's with Lebron and his refusal to play with no fans present? Is he also in denial? And, Melania? She's very concerned with the construction of a tennis pavilion so important people can gather there. Where is concern about this virus killing US citizens?

First, no play, no pay for Lebron. Apparent he forgot about fans who watch the game on TV.

Speaking of social distancing:
Park was packed with people and lots of children. I have noticed in 99% of the places I’ve been I haven’t noticed anyone sneezing or coughing. We were way out on the trail and a group of little kids came running by (5-6 year olds) and they were coughing without covering their mouths. Luckily (I guess) my new little rescue isn’t a people dog yet so we were standing way off the trail with at least 10 feet between us. She growled which hurried them along. Lots of people on the trails so we tried to keep as much distance between me and everyone else. Hopefully tomorrow there will be sunshine and less people and we can have a more relaxing hike.

“The U.S. death toll from coronavirus rose to 19 on Saturday as Italy considered drastic new measures to combat the spread of infections.

Italy reported its biggest daily increase in infections since the outbreak there began. The draft of a new government decree suggests the country is on the verge of dramatically expanding its no-entry zone in what would be the most serious step taken anywhere outside of China to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

In the U.S. top officials said they could not say how many Americans had been tested so far for infection. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and public health labs combined have performed 5,861 tests, authorities said, but the total nationwide is unclear.

Washington state reported two more fatalities as cases in that state rose to 102, a day after Florida health officials reported two deaths — the first recorded outside the West Coast since the outbreak reached U.S. soil.”

I have to respectfully disagree on the medical front. I'm watching their twitter accounts and they are blowing it up trying to influence government to act....

I can respect that. And you have a lot of good knowledge. And that is good to know because I hope they influence the govt.

On a more personal level I am in the medical profession. Water cooler talk amongst the doctors tends to be concern with the already overwhelmed health system. And what mass testing wold mean. But as we can agree I am sure there are many many responsible medical doctors, etc that are pushing for doing the right thing. Our hospital is always full, ER bedding dozens waiting for rooms.

Edit to add, I am clerical staff not a clinical professional. But my desk is really close to the water cooler, lol

“Here are the latest developments:
  • Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert (R) late Friday joined the growing list of governors who have declared a state of emergency in response to the outbreak.
  • Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar defended the administration’s testing procedures — which have been widely criticized after the initial CDC coronavirus test kits were faulty — saying “the only issue was just that manufacturing scale up for capacity.”
  • New York announced 21 new coronavirus infections on Saturday, bringing the state’s told to 76 cases. Seven of the new cases are in New York City.
  • Italy reported 1,247 new coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.
  • A “critically ill” American passenger and companion were taken off the Grand Princess cruise ship where 21 people have now tested positive for coronavirus, the cruise company says.
  • Israel is considering requiring travelers from some parts of the United States to undergo a two-week quarantine.“

add this meeting to the one this week in WH
w/ all the airline CEO's. Did anything substantive come out of that meeting which has been reported to help the American citizens?
Nope, but I'll bet 8.3 billion smelled good to
the airlines. The corporations are lining up for it.
edit- next they'll meet w/ the Hotel owners who are hurtin'.

SOUTH CAROLINA

The patient from Kershaw County has been transferred to Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

The patient is in a special isolation room that helps keep the medical team and the community safe, Prisma Health officials say.

Scott Sasser, M.D., Prisma Health acute care chief clinical officer for the Midlands, said, “I want to reassure everyone that Prisma Health is prepared to respond to COVID-19. We have enacted our Hospital Incident Management Team (HIMT) across Prisma Health to continue to manage our approach to this public health concern.”

I really believe the failed roll out of testing and lack of testing is intentional. Thousands of positive tests will overwhelm our healthcare system. The powers that be don’t want to know because A- medically we will be unable to do anything about it. B- we are not a country that locks up, rounds up or otherwise detains our citizens easily.

IMHO the medical profession and government have decided the head in the sand is the best way. Smh.
If A and B are both true, what would you suggest we do instead?
