Cruise ship on river Nile placed under quarantine by Egyptian authorities

after 12 people tested positive for coronavirus.

A Taiwanese-American tourist likely caused the spread on board the ship, as she tested positive for the virus after returning to Taiwan late in February.

THIS....

New epidemiological study of 25,000 #COVID19 cases reveals that infection control measures in Wuhan reduced infections by over 90%, reducing R0 to roughly 0.3. Remarkable and cause for hope that aggressive measures in the US can make a huge difference.

China took draconian measures. US can't even figure out how to test enough people.

Cost is a worry for some people. Here's info from the mayor of NYC:

Mayor Bill de Blasio
@NYCMayor

This is a city that guarantees health care for everyone who needs it, regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. If you do not have insurance or don't know where to go, call 311. We will help you find a facility. If you're unable to pay, you will still get treated.

Brilliant. Great idea to address that issue right away to encourage everyone to seek help if they're sick. So many people compacted into a relatively small area - it can spread like wildfire there if it becomes prevalent.

I think the point that everyone in the US is missing is that China went overboard to contain the virus. They failed, but they certainly slowed it down for now.

We need the names of the deceased to find the correct number of deaths in China. It seems odd that there are 3500 deaths world wide, yet the crematoriums in China were going 24/7 for weeks.

Nothing to report if you don’t run the tests....

(now where have I heard that before???....)

This is a great visual if you would like to use it on your social media....

This is what we are faced with....

We don't have the capacity to take care even half those numbers. I've begged my 80 year old parents to hibernate on their farm and don't come out until its over....
I wish my 86 year old mom COULD hibernate. She has to care for and cart my brother, who suffers from a myriad of health problems, all over the county to various doctors appts for whatever is ailing him at the moment. Plus she has some appts of her own to see through. I worry about her. She's a trooper and has always had this responsibility for him.

My 87 year old dad, however (who is not in the same household as my mom) has been hibernating for decades. I used to be upset about it. Now I'm happy he does.

The two genomes from Wales each group the large European outbreak clade, but don't group together, suggesting separate introductions. Thanks to @SmallRedOne, @tomrconnor, @PublicHealthW, @WalesMicrobiol 2/3 Nextstrain on Twitter

Not much my friend....I'm quite devastated about this topic. If I can help with info, maybe we can influence people to stay home and isolate.
Take care of yourself in the process. That's important! And thanks from me as well. Your efforts are truly appreciated. xo

China took draconian measures. US can't even figure out how to test enough people.

The still don't even know how many tests they have. Everyone will just blame it on people not washing their hands. Victim blaming, the American way.

Mitigation and containment of #COVID19 #coronavirus still possible if we can aggressively #TESTVIRUSNOW, apply #SocialDistancing as a new normal, and be prudent when we or those around us might be sick. Each of us can do our part to protect those most vulnerable. #PublicHealth

BREAKING: Starbucks confirms an employee at one of its downtown Seattle stores has been diagnosed with COVID-19 #Coronavirus.
This is the store at 1st and University.
It's an extremely busy location in the heart of downtown Seattle. It's now shut down for cleaning.

She also said this.....I feel her pain

Right? But every time I tweet information, people yell that I'm blowing it out of proportion. Sigh.

21 new cases of CoViD-19 in Stockholm, at 1 p.m., March 7, (and the surrounding region), making a total of 101 cases there, it's almost 2/3 of the total number of cases in Sweden, 161 cases. In Stockholm about 1300 people have been tested, and with 101 confirmed cases, it makes about 9 percent of the tested have the virus. My guess is that those being tested are persons who have been in Italy (and other areas with the virus), and people who have been in close contact with confirmed cases of CoViD-19, but still, a infection rate of 9 percent is high.
