I had a trip to Poland booked for first week of October. I cancelled the trip and thus was out the $291 trip insurance (which goes without saying) plus my $250 deposit. Filed a claim for return of deposit which was denied. "Fear of COVID" was not covered. I suppose I could have talked my doctor into writing a letter stating I have severe anxiety disorder. But just couldn't deal with more hassle re the trip. Lesson learned.

That’s messed up, “Fear of Covid”...

This is an international health crisis...

Well, I think epidemics aren't generally covered in travel insurance anyway.

Did my weekly shopping today. Shelves were full. Public behavior was normal. The only difference I noticed today is that more people were cleaning their carts with wipes when entering the stores and hand sanitizer was available at all check out lanes. I went to Kroger, Walmart and Aldi and as far as I could see, I was the only one who used the hand sanitizer.

That’s somewhat positive news - that people are using wipes and that hand sanitizer is everywhere.

I’m surrounded by people who just don’t care. At all. About any of this. Moo. I can not believe some of the public resistance - this in itself could end up being our biggest downfall.

Disclaimer: this is not to say that there aren’t some people who care, because there are.

One factor in the varying levels of concern could be the different numbers of cases in different regions.

Additionally, I think a lot of people just aren’t educated about the matter, plain and simple. The people who are calling it “just the flu” obviously haven’t watched enough Wuhan videos or been listening to what has been happening in Iran, Italy, Korea, the Diamond Princess...nor do they seem to have read any articles and reports of value.

I honestly surprised your deposit was not refunded, being you canceled what - 7 months ahead? Our cruise allowed us to cancel 3 months ahead with full return of deposit and after 3 months, you still could get back a percentage (less as the cruise start date came closer.). And Disney World allows a month ahead cancellation with full return of deposit. Seems unfair.

BERLIN (Reuters) - The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany jumped by more than 100 on Saturday, reaching 795 by mid-afternoon amid growing concern at the economic impact of the spreading epidemic on one of the world's most trade-dependent economies.

The number recorded by the Robert Koch Institute stood at 684 in the morning, with large clusters in the west and south, where an initial outbreak centered on a car supplier with a unit in Wuhan, where the infection was first detected.

The total is well over 10 times larger than it was a week ago. There were 66 cases on Feb. 29.

German coronavirus cases jump, economic anxiety rises

Yes, that has been my experience with cruises. However, I booked this trip through Road Scholar which requires non-refundable deposit. Yup, seems unfair, but I feel much safer and more secure.

Not sure where hand sanitizer is everywhere, but it's sold out around where I live.

I got my insurance on a comparison website. It's wasn't any more expensive than normal. £24 for a multi trip policy for a couple. There was no mention, from what I can see, of coronavirus. I think I'm basically just covered if the Foreign Office advice changes to all but essential travel to a Malta or Croatia. I'm ok with that, I think. I'm still hopeful we will go on our holidays!

Everyone in the travel industry is facing catastrophic losses so I’m sure they’re going to hang on tightly to whats been booked.

Yes I was going to say that. We are reading lots every day. Many people are not and don't care to. They may read a headline and that's their news source. Then they discuss it with other naysayers and thus form their opinion.

Oh I meant where Tillicum lives. That’s promising. It’s by the check out stands for use, I think they said.

Understood. That's what is important.

FYI, for us, about $350.

curious ... how much do you think you've spent so far?
we haven't been keeping track just going weekly as per usual but buying more on those trips

We on here are most likely over-informed. I have no problem being over-informed.

I do try to share things with my people. There is sometimes a tactful method that needs to be followed, or at least to break the ice about it, if you know ahead there will be some resistance or poo-pooing.

My relative works at a grocery store in Colorado, she said they cannot keep anything on the shelves.
I thought we were raised to do so? My mother was very strict about hygiene and raised me NOT to make others ill, so stay when sick not go to school, work or social functions endangering others.
Sesame Street, all the kids shows covered it ad nauseam.
Sadly, you'd be surprised, far too many kids, young adults and some adults were not raised like that and raised/raising little ones that do not either.
