We on here are most likely over-informed. I have no problem being over-informed.

I do try to share things with my people. There is sometimes a tactful method that needs to be followed, or at least to break the ice about it, if you know ahead there will be some resistance or poo-pooing.

I suspect we'll hear more of this. I remember the swine flu epidemic. All cruises to Mexico were cancelled and the itineraries were replaced by Alaska. You could get those Alaska cruises for a bargain!

Went shopping in very rural Ireland today for the first time in a week. There's now a sanitising station at the supermarket entrance with alcohol wipes for you to disinfect the handle of your shopping basket or trolley. Covid-19 information signs everywhere. No major shortages of anything except for hand sanitiser, which is like the holy grail apparently. Went to a couple of pharmacies to try to pick some up for my mother, who is 75 and a bit anxious, but they say it can't be got anywhere and they don't know when they'll be getting more in. But hey we have plenty of soap for now. People in this region tend to be super sceptical of disease outbreaks etc usually tending towards "it's all media hype", so I was pleasantly surprised to see that this particular virus appears to be taken seriously here.

For those I know and love...

I think for some people it is just TOO MUCH mentally to really absorb. It’s too scary.
There is nothing we can do to stop it.
People are just trying to get through the day to day responsibilities. (Take care of kids, go to work, etc.)

Yep, plenty of toilet paper but no hand sanitizer around here. I am sure soon we will be told hand sanitizer doesn't work either.

Here in SW New Mexico, hand sanitizer has been sold out for some time. The rice and dried beans shelves are sparsely stocked. Most folks I've talked with aren't alarmed about COVID. They point out there are zero cases in New Mexico even though surrounding states are reporting positive. It's like people here think we're surrounded by an invisible protective shield or something.

(Reuters) - The head of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said on Saturday that materials for 2.1 million coronavirus tests will have been shipped to non-public U.S. labs by Monday, as the Trump administration aims to counter criticism that its response to the disease has been sluggish.

Stephen Hahn, the FDA commissioner, told reporters at the White House that manufacturers have told the agency they believe that by the end of next week they could scale up to a capacity of 4 million additional tests.

I have sent emails to friends and talked to people about my concerns. I think most of them think I'm a worrywart and I should chill. I'd be happy if it turned out that I worried unnecessarily about the impact of the virus. But I'm pretty sure that's not going to be the case.

My ex is in the hospital with congestive heart failure and my son and grandkids went in to see him . I just texted my son.

Me: How is your dad?
Son: I think he's gonna be okay.
Me: Did you all use hand sanitizer when you left?
Son: No.
Me: I can give you some. I have plenty.
Son: We have some.
Son: We all washed our hands when we got home.
Me: For at least 2o seconds?
Son: Probably not.

I’ve been out all morning and got home to discover that my county in southern Oregon has two cases of COVID-19, both travelers who live together and are isolating at home. I expect these are the cases they’ve been monitoring before testing. Also a case in the adjoining Klamath county. Oh goody!

Jackson County Health and Human Services says the people in its county are between 55 and 75 years of age, live together, and are isolated at their home. They are travel-related cases and do not require hospitalization.

Jackson County Health and Human Services say there is no identified risk to the public and no known community spread of the coronavirus at this time.
